Sagittarius - The Centaur by: Liz Greene

21:22 Feb 13 2007
Times Read: 636

The centaur is an imaginary creature who is half horse and half man. In the stories of mythology he is full of adventure and will gallop to the ends of the earth just for the joy of finding something new. In his hands he carries a bow and arrow. He shoots his arrow at some distant goal, gallops off in pursuit, and when he finds his arrow shoots it again, always keeping on the move. Astrologers think the centaur is a good symbol for those born under this sign, because they generally love travelling, seeing new places and meeting new people. They are always ready for a new adventure and always ready to learn something new.

Sagittarius people need plenty of freedom, because they want to experience as much of life as they can. They are unhappy when tied down to a routine, and happiest when starting off on something new. Walking is a favourite Sagittarian pastime, and many excel at sports. Sagittarians also have restless, adventurous minds, and like to take up new studies. Many Sagittarians are keenly interested in philosophy and the world of ideas, and they also love to have a good time and are fun to be with.

Sagittarius is a fire sign, like Aries and Leo. If you are a Sagittarius, you will probably find that as you grow older you want to travel. You should have a lively and inquiring mind, and will always be asking questions about everything. Above all, you should have great faith in yourself, and your special and unique gift is this ability to wish upon a lucky star and believe your dreams really will come true.

Vampires

21:10 Feb 13 2007
Times Read: 638

Vampires are an immortal race that feed from the essence of humans to thrive. But the true origin of the vampire race is unknown. Many stories have developed explaining where they come from. Some myths claim that they come from another dimension, that they spawned from hell, or that they are the children of demons or dragons. But what is true is that the vampire race has inhabited Earth as long as the human race.

Mythologies that reference the chapter of Genesis in the holy book claim the existence of a woman who shared Eden with Adam. Her name was Lilith. It is believed that she brought forth the age of vampires. More mythologies add Cain, son of Adam, as the first of vampires when he slew his brother Able. Nevertheless, amongst the race of vampires, the vampire Cain is the oldest of vampires and the vampire Lilith has been spotted in Paragon City. Whether they are related to these folklores has yet to be seen.

Overtime, the vampire race grew and their origins became more a mystery from the vampire's ability to hide themselves amongst human existence. Their existence on Earth's plane seemed to weaken them from generation to generation. Many elder vampires seeked the powers of magic to compensate. From the vampire's search for Earth's magic, they encountered the Pantheon, the city of Oranbega, the Behemoth race, and the ancient Dragons. The text on these events are vague but some of their supernatural capabilities come from these encounters.

Vampires were held in high regard amongst the Egyptian civilization. Few vampires became kings and were depicted amongst Egyptian art along with two other races of cat people and werewolves. These powerful races were many times mistaken as gods for their features and powers. Humans recognized the werewolves Anubis and Ammut and the felines Sekmet and Bastet among the beings that worked with vampires during this time.

The most popular of vampires during this time was the one called Osiris. Osiris and his brother Set were abandoned by their vampire parents and left with humans who practiced magic. The foster parents raised the two vampires and their two human daughters, Isis and Nephytus, teaching them all the ways of magic. Osiris used his magic and abilities to bring agricultural to the humans of Egypt. He was appointed King of Egypt and ruled with Isis as his wife. Set became jealous of Osiris and seeked to have great power. The vampire Set used his magic to create lower vampires by infecting humans. Set and his vampires plotted and murdered Osiris to take the throne of Egypt. Isis began a quest to resurrect Osiris from the dead while their son, Horus, seeked vengence against Set. To assist Horus in the war against Set, a powerful sun sorcerer named Ra placed a curse on the infected human-vampires of Set. With the lower vampires cursed from sunlight, Horus was able to defeat Set's armies and battle Set one-on-one. Isis brought Osiris back from the dead through magic but he became bound to the Netherworld. Osiris from then on became known to humans as lord of the Underworld. Through Osiris can the vampire race tap into the powers of the Netherworld. Horus continued to establish Egypt giving pharoahs power to rule.

Many cults began in Egypt that continued to worship the magic in the land. One of these factions were created by the vampire Priest who was mistaken for the Egyptian god of wisdom Thoth. Priest kept the Book of the Dead and found ways of sanctifying vampires with magic and mummification. With the vampire Lazarus they learned the ways of allowing vampires to slumber without feeding from human blood. Many of the master vampires use these techniques founded by Priest and Lazarus to hibernate until a time comes for them to be awaken. Through magic other vampires such as Igneous and Goliath found ways of increasing the defenses of vampires while they slumber to ensure protection if the werewolf race would ever turn.

Ancient Greece (First Age of Heroes)
The presence of heroes did not begin in Paragon City but in Ancient Greece. Other races manifested besides vampires such as centaurs, harpies, and nymphs. Some of these heroes and creatures were mistaken for gods and others as monsters, such as the gorgons, harpes, and sorcerers. With so many battles and events, it was not easy keeping track of events. Some of the best writers were Homer and Sophocles to interpret exploits of heroes. Out of the depictions from these writer, it is believed that the vampires took on various identities during this time. Among the known Greek scriptures, Osiris used the name Hades, Scorn used the name Ares, Drake used the name Dionysus, Ebon Fog used the name Calypso, Priest used the name Hermes, Cain used the name Cronos, Manarah used the name Medea, Lazarus used the name Charon, Isis used the name Persephone, and Lilith used the name Circe. Most of these vampires resided in the mountains of Greece, in which some humans called Olympus and others called the Underworld.

Unknown to the world of the Greeks was stories of Africa where one vampire known as Rune seeked dominating power and evil. Rune did not care too much for humans and considered them nothing more than cattle. His exploits in Africa today still remain a mystery. It is believed that he may have teamed with the Adamastor and Typhoeus to reign terror on the Dark Continent and to battle superpowered heroes of Greek myth.

Rome was not built in a day and it was not founded by humans. The werewolf brethren Romulus and Remus brought forth the empire of Rome through their conquests and wars. The vampire known as Scorn appeared in this time and became involved in the wars of Rome. Scorn in his war-like ways may have been mistaken as the god Mars. Scorn became one of Rome's greatest champions as they seized the control of multiple lands. Vampires including Drake assisted the Roman Empire armies for world dominance. This was the first union between Drake and Scorn as they led the Roman armies to victory. But a powerful human amongst those terrorized by the Romans came face to face with Drake. The special human found a way to weaken the vampire race with the symbols of his magic and then condemed the vampire race to a life of exile. As the people of Rome began to follow the ways of the special human and the Roman Empire fell, the more vampires became less involved in human affairs and scattered into the wastelands. The Roman Catholic Church became one of these tools to keep the vampire race banished.

Around the same time in a providence outside of Rome, the Vampire Set resurfaced with an alliance of dark creatures including werewolves called Venator Noctis, the Hunters of the Night. This cult created by Set seeked to gain power over the Roman Empire and the rule of humans by summonning demons to Earth as the Oranbengans did centuries ago. Eventually they summoned the Janus demon Maeljin to Earth. As a master of transformation Janus demon, Maeljin took to a human-like form using the name Maeljin BashKai to fit in and lead the human-vampire and werewolf societies. Maeljin used the Vampire Set as his guide through the human societies. Taking control of Venator Noctis, he coupled with the vampire Janissa and brought his pet T'kar to the Earth's plane. In attempts to destroy the human world, Venator Noctis caused the erruption of Mt. Vesuvius destroying Pompeii and Herculanium, raged wars in Northern Africa and Rome, and unleashed monsters such as Surtur into the human planes. After the fall Rome and the increase of certain religion, the cult decided to remain hidden in the Transylvania Romam providence to fulfill their dark pack when times seem to be more chaotic again.

Before Paragon City
Multiple stories evolved that were recorded and sometimes called folklore. From the writings of Bram Stoker and Anne Rice came the last public awareness of vampire existence. Other story tellers bring about accounts of individual vampire lives that are interpreted into movies or fictional novels. Some of these stories are Dracula, The Mummy, Gargoyles, Interview with a Vampire, Underworld, From Dusk til Dawn, and the Lost Boys.

During these unknown times secret wars continued with the vampire race. Some of the stories mentioned account for times where vampires battled humans and werewolves. But one of the most popular to date is the battle between vampires and the vampire hunters including the great Van Helsing. Many vampire hunters and members of the Roman Catholic Church seek to continue the work of the special one who banished vampires during the Roman Empire era. Because of these hunters and false interpretations in stories, the vampire race remains in the shadows.

For refuge from these dark times of where humans hunt monsters, persue medeival crusades, and battle in world wars, vampires ventured from their homelands of Europe and Northern Africa. Searching for connections to their origins some found sancuatary in the regions of Asia and Japan. In attempt to learn the magic and arts of this land to protect the vampire race, they forged an aliance and learning from the Order of the Dragon. Later on the vampires used the Order of the Dragon to form the Order of Dracul.

Paragon City (City of Heroes)
The second age of heroes came with the exploits of heroes in Paragon City. Multiple vampires have come out of hiding to experience the various opportunities in Paragon City. Many have taken hero disguises to interact with heroes and humans. All of these vampires have different agendas and background stories that deal with Paragon City's history, citizens, heroes, and villains.

Amongst villains that reside in Paragon City is the Council, who conquered the 5th Column. Before the 5th Column was conquered, a scientist, who worked with super-soldier experimentations for the 5th Column, dealt with a master vampire to obtain vampire DNA. This scientist became known as Nosferatu and created the vampyri super-soldiers in the 5th Column. The Vampire Lord Drake is now present in Paragon City to end Nosferatu and his experiments. Finding vampires that have entered Paragon City, the Vampire Lord created the Vampire Nation to destroy the vampyri abominations. After the Vampire Lord the end of Nosferatu and the vampyri experiments, Drake and the Vampire Nation seek in continuing the domination of all villainous threats to vampires in Paragon City and then take their rightful place as rulers.

Currently aiding the Vampire Nation are other factions containing heroes, demons, and vampires, such as Grimm Industries. This corporation founded and ran by Johnathan Grimm seeks power in the dark magic, technology advancement, and hero for hire market. Through this organization Cyberblade and some others entered the fold of the Vampire Nation. Meanwhile, a strange alliance with the vampire Lilith and Johnathan Grimm unfolds. They have set up a dark coalition with the Vampire Nation but their true goals still remain a mystery. Also reunited from the time of Ancient Egypt are the cat people, who overtime evolved on the Earth's plane unlike vampires. Some have immediately joined the Vampire Nation such as Vampcat and Oni Miyoko adding their new powers from vampire magic to the fold. Unlike the werewolf race they have not created an alliance with the Council or the 5th Column. Other coalitions are forming in the Vampire Nation's quest with supergroups and dark creatures such as the Divine Heroes and the Shadow Kings. All are approached with caution but show good faith in the battles between vampire villains.

As a result of Vampire Nation's production, a counter group was forged in the Rogue Isles. The villainous cult, Venator Noctis resurfaced moving their operation from Transylvania to the Rogue Isles with the chaos group Archannos. The Janus demon Maeljin worked with the Vampire Nation to help reform Venator Noctis and their demonic and chaotic activities. Included in the new Venator Noctis is the return of the Vampire Set, Janissa, and T'Kar. They have made new allies from from other worldly evils such as the ninja cult of Hokage Jin and the Chinese vampire cult Order of Dracul. Other vampiric familiars, demons, and Egyptian supernaturals can be found amongst their ranks thanks to the influence of Maeljin.
