(Story) Streetlight Children Chapter 1

10:46 Jun 11 2018
Times Read: 356

In a world run by vampires anyone turned before the age of 18 is collared like a common criminal and dumped at the landfill. The Streetlight Children have to survive at all costs. They are the filth vampire society ignores and abuses. This is the story of Melody who does what has to be done even if it means having to sell herself. Nobody gives a fuck about the Streetlight Children anyway. This is a rags to riches story with XXX so handle it. (Inspired from a scene in Daybreakers where the children are the neglected while the adults control and play)

Melody had a song in her heart and the high heels were just perfect. She turned her body sideways inside the clothing booth and checked out her boobs and butt the mirror. Just perfect, she would be a perfect 18 years old on Saturday. The lingerie she had chosen flattered her to the status of Goddess. She was going to take Charles all the way on Saturday night and on Sunday morning she would go to a BloodBank turning center and become a vampire and be this perfect for ever and ever.
Melody was so tempted to take a selfie and send it to Charles, she had teased him enough, she took a few shots of herself and decided that she would keep her 'before' pics for herself; after all Charles was getting it all Saturday night. Only two nights to go. Melody sent the pics to her mom, her mom just replied 'Perfect'.
Melody turned to face herself in the mirror, she could become a model if she wanted to, her hair was white and not out of a bottle, snow white and her ice blue eyes were as real as her perfect face. "True Perfection" Melody thought to herself as she took another selfie of herself in the mirror.
After the lingerie and heels were paid for Melody went to get Pizza and took the taxi home to the best middle class suburb to the best house on the street where everyone tried to keep up with them. The streetlight was flickering as she paid the taxi; she didn't bother giving him a tip because he earned a wage. The taxi driver touched his cap and drove off quietly. Melody balanced out her shopping bags and the pizza boxes then walked confidently in her high heels to the best home on the block.
Melody walked up the driveway to the partially open door. Her perfect parents had already started on the decorations and Melody couldn't wait to see what her parents had done today. Saturday was going to be absolutely perfect.
Melody leaned against the door to push it open further then saw the bloody footprints on the carpet. The bags and the pizza dropped in slow motion towards the floor. The bloody footprints led up the stairs, Melody started walking quietly on her heels up the carpeted stairs. The bloody footprints started drying up into smudges on the top landing and led into her parent's bedroom.
Her parents had decided to have their baby before being turned into vampires, they didn't want just any BloodBank baby they wanted a true blood baby. Her father and mother both turned when they were 21, after she was born and healthy, they were both beautiful people as well with astronomical plans for the future. The beautiful people had had their perfect child and Melody had flourished under the cover of their hopes and dreams. Dating Charles was a family decision; Melody's mother had shown her the power a woman could have over a man. That man happened to be Charles, an up and coming lawyer already a vampire and in the largest law firm in Megacity 7 run by his father. Going all the way with Charles was a part of a carefully cultivated plan which would lead to a marriage to one of the leading upper class families of Megacity 7.
Melody saw her stunningly beautiful mother on the bed. She had been laid out on the bed like a perfect doll. There were two holes on her graceful neck where a vampire had drained her of all her blood. Melody stood at the foot of the bed looking at her porcelain mother now, her mind was numbed, there was no blood on the bed so the blood footsteps had to be .....
"Daddy" Melody screamed then started running downstairs to find her father. Her father was in the lounge, bled out like some cheap horror movie. "Happy 18th birthday" was glittering in gold and green on a banner above his body.
Melody could see he was dead, she struggled through her purse to find her pearl backed cellphone. She finally fished out the cellphone then lifted it close to her face to swipe it into action.
"Drop it" a course voice behind her said.
Cold shivers ran through her body, she just dropped the phone then started shivering in fear.
"Turn around Candy Girl, we gonna have some fun while you die" the vampire said. Any vampire drinking or turning anyone was a heinous crime and immediately punishable by the BloodBank cops, punishment was 'on sight on site execution'.
Melody didn't look at the vampire she looked at the alarm panel against the wall, the small blue light was flashing, the silent panic alarm was on, help was on the way.
The vampire moved slowly towards her looking her up and down. He was big, broad shouldered, bald and looked like a bully as well. The blood on his mouth and chin looked black and then she recognized him. He was the Rogue vampire on all the wanted posters plastered everywhere. Melody looked at the side of his neck, there was an "S" tattooed with a lightning bolt.
"Let's get a taste of your sweet precious blood before start on the candy" he told her once he was close to her, he raised his hand up to her cheek. Melody was petrified and her lip was quivering.
"Nice lipstick" he said then his head lunged forward into her neck, he bit hard and took a deep swallow.
Melody felt feint, he let her fall onto the ground. She fell on her back looking up at him, in her dizziness she noticed him going for the zipper of his denims. Sirens started screaming in the distance, the vampire looked her up and down again then disappeared into the darkness as her eyes closed.
Melody came too, she sat up slowly, two BloodBank cops were doing paperwork and sitting on the couch.
"I see she is awake" the one cop told the other one.
"Was this him" the other cop said holding up the poster of the Rogue's face that had been plastered everywhere.
"Yes" Melody answered. The one cop smelled of apple pie. It didn't register in her muddled mind though.
The other one looked at her and asked "Are you called Melody and was it going to be your birthday on Saturday".
"Yes" Melody answered.
"What a waste of awesome pussy" the other cop said then stood up and moved closer. Instead of offering her a hand up he used his baton to knock her out.
According to vampire law turning anyone before their 18th birthday is punishable by death. Vampire law does not recognize vampires turned before the age of 18, they are to be collared and thrown out with the waste.
Melody woke up from the stink. It was the worst smell she had ever smelt in her life. She looked up at the stars, there was something around her neck.
"It's a black collar honey, your one way ticket to hell" a voice near her said.
Melody felt the collar, she had read somewhere about underage vampires being collared with black collars and thrown to wilds to survive on their own. The black collar was vampire technology and couldn't be removed at all.
"It doesn't come off honey, the cops come and dump all the new Streetlight children at the landfill before they take the paperwork back to the office" the voice said again.
"But I am 18 in two days" Melody said softly and sadly to the invisible voice.
"They don't care, if you aren't turned by a BloodBank official it isn't legal anyway" the voice added.
"Where am I" Melody asked.
"Hell" the voice said.
Melody broke into tears; this was the fierce horror story parents used to chastise their children when they were naughty. They would tell their children they would turn them into vampires then let the BloodBank cops collar them then let the cops take them away to the sewers where the alligators would hunt them because they couldn't go into the sun.
"Don't cry honey, the only way to defeat the darkness is to stand together" the voice said then walked closer. "My name is Butch and I run this landfill" a tall skinny girl with short black hair said. Butch held out her hand and helped Melody up from the bags of dirt all around her. "Let's get you inside, did they leave you with anything besides a brand new black collar" Butch asked.
Melody's eyes were still streaming tears and she felt for her handbag. Her handbag was gone; her cellphone connection to her life was gone. Melody couldn't talk and just shook her head, the smell wanted to make her puke.
"Let's get upwind" Butch told the slouching shoeless Melody.
"Wake up and smell the trash honey and I am not into girls, I'm called Butch because I can plant any boy on Misery Mile" Butch said before grabbing the reluctant Melody by the hand taking her upwind and away from the stench.
As soon as the ground was level and Melody was up to walking on her own she let go of Butch's hand, "My name is Melody".
"Misery Mile welcomes you Melody" Butch said, no smile included just a solemn scowl. "Now let's get you somewhere safe".
They walked quietly on the dirt path leading up to the edge of the tar road of Misery Mile, the streetlights snaked up the gentle slope and somewhere near the top the small project houses started. They walked over the road to the opposite junkyard. "Be careful of sharp pieces of anything in the dirt, it is a junkyard after all" Butch said as they walked into the junkyard.
Melody walked next to Butch looking for proper footing in the junkyard dirt, slowly they made their way to the back of the huge junkyard into the dry sewers. Butch unclipped the flashlight off her belt and took Melody deeper into the sewers. The sewers were dry and clean as well. "We don't litter down here then the rats don't come" Butch said before they turned down another pipe.
Then the sewers turned into passages cast out of concrete, there were side rooms each with small LED lamps in every room.
"Waif" Butch cried out aloud.
"Yes" a tiny voice screamed from somewhere in the darkness.
"Someone for you to babysit" Butch screamed.
A small dirty 9 year old girl with a black collar appeared a minute later out of the darkness. "Tonight" Waif asked.
"Yep" Butch said.
"What's this about" Melody asked.
Butch showed Waif and Melody into the room, Melody let the raggedy girl go in first. Butch locked the steel door behind Melody from the outside.
"See you tomorrow night Melody, sorry to have to do this but we don't let any of our brothers or sisters do anything stupid so we watch you until you have your head back" Butch said from behind the small slot the let the slot drop.
"She's locked me in with you" Melody told Waif.
"Yep, gotta make sure you don't kill yourself" Waif said.
"Why" Melody asked.
"Because everything you thought you had is gone" Waif said.
Then it hit Melody hard, she looked around at the two bunk beds and the simple toilet and basin. She sat down on the bed with her head in her hand. The reality was hitting home. The tears started rolling and silently this time.
"What's your favorite eXtenda flavor" Waif asked.
"Cherry Fizz" Melody said in between tears.
"Mine too" Waif said. "Cherry Fizz" waif said and pressed the intercom button at the door then sat down on the other bunk.
"How long did it take you to turn" Waif asked Melody once the tears stopped.
"I didn't turn" Melody said defensively.
'What do I smell like to you" Waif asked Melody.
"I don't know, you smell like you and landfill I suppose" Melody answered.
"And the cops that bought you here" Waif asked.
"One smelt like apple pie and the other smelt a bit like you without the landfill" Melody answered.
"And what exactly do humans smell like to vampires" Waif asked.
"Humans smell like a vampire's favorite food" Melody answered.
"And your favorite food was apple pie" Waif said.
"That means nothing" Melody said.
"And what do vampires smell like to humans" Waif asked.
"Like rotten flesh but my father didn't smell like that when I left home, he smelt like apple pie..." Melody said and realized the implication.
"The cops always work with one human and one vampire, the apple pie one was the human and the one that smelt like me was a vampire" Waif said during the period of Melody's tears.
Melody lay down onto the bed and curled up into a ball.
"And if you thought Cherry Fizz tasted awesome when you were a human then you are in for an amazing surprise" Waif told Melody.
"I have to go home, this isn't me, and this isn't my life" Melody said as she sat on her bunk. Streetlight children outside the door were getting ready to go to bed outside her steel door.
A slot at the bottom of the steel door slotted open and 4 bottles of Cherry Fizz eXtenda were pushed into the cell.
Waif handed Melody a Cherry Fizz eXtenda. eXtenda was supplied free of charge across the planet and the eXtenda fridges were filled every four hours. Melody sometimes joked that eXtenda was supplied free of charge to stop food riots because people who weren't hungry didn't start revolutions. eXtenda came in 24 delicious flavors and supplied all the nutrients a human or a vampire needed to survive for a single day in a 2 pint bottle.
Melody sipped some of the Cherry Fizz. Liquid love poured into her body and liquid love filled her tummy and body.
"This is awesome" Melody told Waif.
"Told you" Waif said and tossed another bottle onto Melody's bunk bed.
Melody downed both bottles of Cherry Fizz, it was the most amazing drink she had ever head in her life.
"I reckon it took you less than half an hour to turn" Waif told Melody when she put down the empty second bottle.
"Maybe less even, 10 minutes I reckon, the sirens started screaming when he bit me, they were close enough to hear loudly" Melody said.
"Then the vampire that bit you must have been very strong" Waif said. "Blood bank turning takes up to 7 days, the quickest we ever heard of was 3 days at a blood bank but that was hundreds of years ago".
"How old are you Waif" Melody asked.
"962 years old" Waif said plainly.
"Wow" Melody said.
"Not wow if you are trapped in a 9 year old girl's body with no future as a woman, you definitely got all the looks women would kill for and you get chance to be a woman too" Waif said.
"Haven't done it yet" Melody answered.
"You have to be joking" Waif said.
"Nope, just saving it for the right man" Melody said.
"A political marriage" Waif said.
"Getting into the upper class bracket is a warzone, it isn't about love it's about offering your first time to the right man in the hope he will bite into the bait properly" Melody said bitterly, she was now assigned to the trash bracket after the Rogue bit into her and turned her.
"I feel the dawn coming on soon" Waif said.
"I feel nothing" Melody said.
"That's why the steel door is locked on the outside, one out of every few thousand vampires doesn't go into daytime coma so you could end up running into the sunlight" Waif said.
"I am not a vampire" Melody said more to herself than Waif, trying to deny the horrible truth of the violent change that had turned her world to trash in one night.
Waif made herself comfortable in the bottom of the other bunk bed then said "Good Morning" then passed into the daytime coma of the vampire race.
Melody walked up and shook Waif until she realized Waif was not going to wake up.
Melody heard a soft shuffling outside the steel door. "Who's there" Melody cried.
The slot high up in the door opened. "Another sleepless soul" Butch's voice said.
"I thought all vampires go into a daytime coma" Melody told the door slot.
"Nope, it appears that you and I are free of that affliction" Butch answered.
"When are you letting me out of here" Melody asked.
"When you realize you have nothing to go back to" Butch answered.
"And how am I supposed to realize that" Melody asked.
The slot at the bottom of the door opened, a battered smartphone was pushed into the small room. "Phone away" Butch said then closed both slots in the door.
Melody lunged at the phone, her memory was superb, no detail escaped her memory.
Melody phoned he best friend first. "Hi" Jane answered, "Who is this, I don't normally answer callers that are not on my contact list".
"It's Melody and have I had a bad night, the worst night from hell" Melody said.
"I saw, I saw them take away the two body bags and I saw your collar and thrown into the trunk of the police car" Jane said.
"And you did nothing" Melody asked.
"I did the right thing Melody, I let everyone know you were collared and trash now, so please don't call me back, ever" Jane said then disconnected the call.
Melody just sat watching the screen of the smartphone. Jane was probably warning the others in their chat group on Streetlight. Streetlight was a free app with unbreakable encryption, even the government used the app and there were millions of addons for the app.
Melody checked then saw the Streetlight app was installed on the cellphone in her hand. She added a second Streetlight account with her username and password. Her account of "Barbierella" was still active, at least they couldn't delete that. Melody looked at her contacts, almost all of had been removed and all of them were blocked to her. Melody looked at the chat group she had with all of her friends, she had been banned from the group. "Not fair" Melody said to herself in a huff.
Melody looked on her Streetlight contact list to see if Charles was still there. She called Charles, he was a vampire so he wouldn't be available but she tried anyway. "This is Charles, it's daytime so you know what to do" the voice message said. Melody just ended the call.
Melody watched her contact list on the Streetlight app. They were disappearing as she watched. Melody felt like throwing the cellphone to pieces but realized it was her only connection to her past. She lay back on the bunk bed quietly looking up at the bottom of the bed above hers, maybe throwing a tantrum would help. She fingered the collar absentmindedly, crying anymore wouldn't help.
Time dragged by slowly, at 10:12 am Melody began feeling drowsy, she passed out into the daytime coma vampires suffered from.
Melody awoke at 2pm some time. She felt like she woken from the dead, Waif on the other bed was still in her daytime coma. Melody was thirsty, there was only tap water and a stainless steel cup, so she had tap water. The water actually tasted better that bottled water, it probably came from some underground river.
Melody decided there was nothing else to do so she went back to sleep.
Waif gently woke Melody after sunset. "We have to go Melody, just so you can get final proof of your status as Streetlight child".
Melody woke slowly then sat up; she probably looked like hell and smelt like it as well. After a pee Melody and Waif each took a bottle of Cherry Fizz eXtenda for breakfast. The steel door opened and Waif led a way to a room stocked full of old and worn clothes. As much as Melody wanted to refuse wearing trash she needed something for her feet, she found a worn pair of black sneakers that fit comfortably enough. Waif took two battery torch lights for them then they headed out of the dry sewers into the junkyard then to the tar road that made up Misery Mile.
"Why don't you phone your boyfriend" Waif said as they started walking up the mile long road towards the top of the road.
Melody had clean forgotten and phone Charles on the Streetlight app.
"Hi baby" Charles said when he answered the Streetlight call.
"I need you baby" Melody said nervously.
"We all know what you are now Melody, I am not averse to paying the standard fee" Charles said.
"What" Melody said on the verge of anger.
"You're Streetlight people now, they do anything for money, 'Full House' starts at about 1000 Kr depending on how good you are" Charles said.
"I am not a whore Charles" Melody said.
"No, so Saturday at midnight was for what, all you stupid girls thinking giving me your 'precious' gift is going to get me to marry you, I have been taking it from girls like you for hundreds of years now, you give everything until you realize you have been played then you go and look for another sucker" Charles answered.
"You Bastard" Melody said.
"You Whore" Charles answered.
"Can I see you please" Melody begged.
"How much" Charles asked.
"I am not a whore Charles" Melody said.
"How much for a 'Full House' Melody" Charles asked.
Melody wanted to see him, she was going to do it with him anyway. "1000 Kr" Melody answered in shame.
"Where are you" Charles asked.
"Where can he pick me up" Melody asked Waif.
Waif thought a bit then said "Second Streetlight on misery mile".
"Second Streetlight on Misery Mile" Melody told Charles.
"I'll see you in an hour, I know exactly where it is" Charles said and ended the call.
"He wants to have sex with me and is going to pay me 1000 Kr" Melody said.
"You're worth a lot more than that on the street Melody" Waif said sadly.
"I have to see him" Melody said.
"He can't take you away from this" Waif said.
"He owns a mansion, he can keep me in the basement somewhere" Melody said. "I don't care if I become his body slave at least I will have something".
"Then you haven't seen the invisible line between us and them" Waif said.
"Invisible line" Melody asked.
"You have to feel it for yourself" Waif said. They walked up quietly to the top end of Misery Mile.
"The line is exactly 1 mile from the wall of Megacity 7, we can't go past it, it keeps us out" Waif said.
"Where does it start" Melody said.
"Just walk into the open field Melody towards the city, when it tingles stop" Waif said.
Melody started walking towards the tall light speckled city wall a mile away. At first her black collar started tingling. "This isn't so bad" she thought to herself and carried on walking. The closer she moved towards the city the more her collar shocked her. Eventually the pain was too much for her to tolerate even her mind couldn't work properly anymore. She turned around and ran back to Waif.
"So we are trapped outside the city forever" Melody told Waif.
"Forever" Waif said then led her back towards Misery Mile. At the second streetlight Melody introduced Melody to Maria, Johnny and Jason. Maria was a Makeup Girl and the boys Makeup Boys. Melody just sat next to Maria, Melody didn't take in too much detail about her companions at the concrete bench they were sitting on.
"No Streetlight child judges any Streetlight child, ever" Waif said as she walked away.
Maria looked about 16; her black collar had been painted over with gold fingernail varnish. Her long black hair framed her beautiful face and her eyes were so dark they wanted to suck your soul in.
Johnny looked about 15 and he was pretty with his blonde hair and blue eyes. Jason just looked like a very neat 16 year old boy who liked to eat a lot of candy. Johnny had a brown paper bag of candy at his side and offered Melody the bag. Melody just shook her head and sat back in the concrete bench.
Melody's mind wanted to go into overload, she could never get back into the city, she was trapped out here forever. She patiently waited for Charles to come in his Big Black SUV.
Finally his SUV pulled up. "It's for me" Melody told Maria before Maria made a move to get up. Melody ran the SUV passenger door and hopped in.
"You stink" Charles said, "but then again all of you Makeup Girls stink of something, if it isn't perfume it's something else".
"Nice to see you too" Melody said sarcastically.
"Here's the 1000 Kr you asked for" Charles said and handed over 1000 Kr.
"I am not a whore" Melody said.
"I came here for Candy not for talk so be quiet" Charles said as he drove down Misery Mile.
Melody just looked down at her feet then stuffed the notes into her denim pocket. At the end of misery mile past the junkyard and the landfill was a huge field with scattered trees and patches of forest. Melody could see Charles knew the area well; he headed past one patch of trees and stopped on the edge of the huge water filled quarry.
"Now Candy is what I want and I am going to show you how I want it" Charles said as he took Melody to the edge of the Quarry. Melody could not have imagined what was happening to her, at least vampires were sterile so she couldn't get pregnant. Her fantasy of making Charles her own was now completely in reverse, she was now his to do as he wished her to do to her. Afterwards he kissed her and started calling her "Candy".
Melody washed herself in the quarry as Charles sat on a log looking at her.
"All you women are the same, you prostitute your bodies to get a ring on your finger" Charles said.
Melody didn't lie behind the veneer of the clean cut Barbierella image anymore. "It was the only way out of the middle class Charles" Melody said.
"Candy, you're just like all the others, they think that because they know everything that they can do everything". "I have been a bachelor for centuries now, I know all the tricks you women pull, you even believe you love me" Charles said.
"And now I am trash, so why did you bother to come here to have me" Melody asked.
"Because I still have to teach you my way, this was just for starters, you might even like it in the end because I know how to do it properly" Charles said then smirked.
"So I am just a whore to you then, even if I hadn't turned you still would have used me until you became bored" Melody said.
"Yes" Charles said bluntly.
"So I will never see you again then" Melody asked.
"You will see me ever night until I get a better piece of Candy, it would have been the same even if you weren't trash" Charles said.
"I could say no" Melody said.
"You could and live off eXtenda forever, the Makeup girls do what they do to survive" Charles said.
"So I am a Makeup Girl now" Melody said.
"Yes, you have to survive, and get yourself some decent clothes" Charles said and put a wad of money on the log.
Melody thought there was perhaps an ounce of pity in him for her, she would do as he wanted. Charles was in a powerful family, maybe his family could get her back into the city somehow. She had to get back to her normal life without a collar around her neck and Charles was the way in. The happier he was the greater her chance was of getting back in.
Charles didn't talk as they drove back to the bench. Charles at least kissed her goodbye and called her "Candy". He drove away quietly.
Melody walked in shame towards the bench and sat down. "Isn't anyone going to judge me" Melody asked her 3 companions. "No Streetlight child judges any other Streetlight child, ever" Maria said gently and held Melody's hand. Melody burst out crying. Johnny just grunted and carried on with the game on his cellphone Jason just took another piece of candy out of his brown paper bag.
"No Streetlight child steals from another Streetlight child, ever" Maria said. "Just make sure Butch gets 10 percent of what you bring in, the money goes to look after all of us" Maria added but still kept on holding Melody's hand. "We look after each other here, no one else will".
Melody just sighed then nodded her head. "He wants me to get better clothes" Melody said.
"How much money did he give you" Maria said.
Melody pulled out the big wad of money and showed it to Maria.
"If you give me 1000 Kr then I will take you shopping now otherwise we can wait for my first client to finish with me then we can go shopping" Maria said.
"There's a lot of Kr there, we might as well go now" Melody said.
"Okay, let me call a taxi, it isn't close enough to walk to" Maria told Melody. "And we have to get you another cellphone; the one you are using is the spare one for the children in case they need a spare".
"There's enough cash and you might as well take other clients as well if lover boy doesn't pan out, no one is going to judge you here" Maria said. "Maybe you get a client who takes you away to the country for a few weeks to his private country home, anything is possible".
"I hate myself" Melody said.
"None of us chose this Melody, these collars were forced on us by the actions of other people, the innocent suffer the most" Maria said.
The taxi took 20 minutes to arrive. Melody counted all her Kr and put 10 percent of the Kr into a plastic bank bag for Butch, the Streetlight children were a family that looked after each other. The taxi drove through the giant slum around the Megacity 7 to the informal shacks that sold Makeup Girl clothing.
The shacks were close together and full of clothing, used and brand new. Maria like the tight shiny clothing and it looked cheap to Melody. "We want them to want us as soon as they lay their eyes on us Melody" Maria said.
The shacks were full of clothing and accessories, LED lights were on brightly and there was a homely atmosphere in the shacks. The sound of power generators droned throughout the shacks that made up the clothing market and everyone wore collars. The Streetlight children were aged from as young as 5 to as old as 18, because they were vampires they could be centuries old and just trapped in a too young body.
Melody settled on tight shiny tights and high heels. Boob tubes and tight shirts were found in another shack. Everything was at least 10 times cheaper than in the city shops and Melody realized how much the retailers inside the city cheated their customers but then again there were no fancies in the shacks, just goods at an affordable price and everyone still made enough profit to look after the different clans of Streetlight children.
The Cellphone was the most expensive, it was 2000 Kr and cost 30 000 Kr in the city, it was the best money could buy.
As Melody stood in front in a full length mirror in her tight shiny clothes and new handbag she took selfie of herself. She actually liked the slutty look anyway and Charles at the moment was her only way in. "I feel like a whore" Melody told Maria.
"We don't like that word Maria, we are Makeup girls" Maria said with a hint of frustration.
"I feel like a decent Makeup Girl and I like dressing like this as well oddly enough" Melody said.
"Good, now let's get some pizza then a taxi to take us back, I think you should move in with me in the dry sewers" Maria told Melody.
There was a huge modern building that sold Pizza between the shacks, the vampire owner had put up a legal Pizza Parlor for the Streetlight children, he sold it cheaply and he sold volume and he was making a killing.
After a Pizza each they headed back to Misery mile in the taxi, Melody even had a few thousand Kr change after their shopping expedition.
At the top end of the junkyard Melody and Maria zipped in by the spot where the fence was broken, Melody coped quite well with her long heels in the dirt as they walked to the sewer. They passed a wash house before they went into the sewers. "We wash our body and clothes in there, normally we just give our washing to some of the other Streetlight children to do, they do expect some Kr but it's worth it, it keeps them busy seeing they don't have anything else to do" Maria explained.
Butch kept an office inside the sewers, Maria knocked and they both went in. Maria handed 100 Kr to Butch and Melody gave the plastic bank bag with the money to Butch. Butch just nodded and put the money into a drawer. Melody handed over the borrow phone after she deleted her Streetlight account.
"Thanks" Melody said as she handed over the borrow phone.
"Pleasure" Butch said. "Now Melody please understand this, the Makeup Girls bring in a lot of Kr and they sometimes resent giving me so much money all the time". "It inherently isn't fair but we look after each other here, no Streetlight child resents another Streetlight child, ever". "We are family so don't feel bad when you splash out on clothes and stuff, you earned it the hard way, your 10 percent is more than enough and we will look after you now matter what" Butch said.
Melody just nodded.
"She is moving in with me" Maria said.
"Fine, no problems, just no litter please especially food, we don't want another rodent plague down here again" Butch added.
"Okay" Maria and Melody said at the same time.
Maria had a really big and cozy room and lots of bling; she even had a full length mirror with only a small chip out of a bottom corner. She had wooden cupboards and there were 2 three quarter size beds as well. They even had their own toilet in a side room with a door and didn't have to use the communal ablution facilities down the passage.
"I still feel like trash after every client I take on" Maria said as they undressed into boxing shorts and t-shirts.
"Every one" Melody said.
"Every single one, that trash feeling doesn't go away but we are looking after our family because some of the kids can't do more than sift through garbage looking for something useful to recycle or resell" Maria said.
"So how do you cope" Melody asked.
"We are survivors, we have to and don't rely in your lover boy to save your ass because they always leave in the end and we can't follow" Maria said.
"It isn't fair" Melody said.
"No it isn't" Maria answered. "We have to survive and so does our family". Maria set her alarm on her cellphone and cuddled in with her teddy bear.
Melody leaned back against the wall and cried silently for a few minutes. This was hell, a real hell with a real collar and her body was the only thing she could use to survive. She hated herself and she hated Charles because he was a way out of here.
She took out the cellphone and put in the old SIM card she had bought tonight, she didn't care where it came from, maybe it was from the landfill. She slid back the battery, put back the hard chromed back on and switched the phone on. Melody set up the phone then downloaded the Streetlight app. The vampire government made sure phone calls and data was free, everyone could have fun with their phones when they were bored instead of thinking up ridiculous things to do like overthrow the government.
Melody made herself a new ID on Streetlight. She went by the name Blonde Candy. She took a selfie and posted it as her profile pic and did the settings.
Melody watched as Maria fell into her daylight coma then plugged her phone charger into the cellphone. She turned onto her side and fell asleep, she was safe, she had shelter, she was alone and she was alive. She was also very unhappy. There were no more tears to cry. The worst part about her night was the fact that she realized she was a slut and had enjoyed the sexual experience and the power she had over Charles.
