Shelke is the younger sister of Shalua Rui. Though she appears to be only about 10 years old, her actual age is closer to 19. Shelke, known as Shelke the Transparent amongst the members of Deepground, is a member of an elite unit known as the Tsviets.

Taken by Shinra shortly after the death of her mother, Shelke was forced to endure a series of experiments that enhanced her body, and gave her unique abilities. Her specialty among the Tsviets is the Synaptic Net Dive... Shelke is able to project an image of herself into a virtual reality called a network and dive in to negotiate with data on the subconscious planes of sentient life forms. Using this technique, she uploaded several files of Dr. Lucrecia Crescent's research in an attempt to locate the Protomateria for Deepground.

Because of the experiments performed on her body, she requires a daily dose of mako energy to survive. Over the years, she has become much like the computer networks she is so skilled at manipulating, seeing things in terms of data and logic. So long has she been isolated, she displays almost no emotion.

After determining that Vincent Valentine was the keeper of the Protomateria, and subsequently locating him, Weiss of the Tsviets decided that she was no longer needed. Rather than allow her to fall into the hands of the WRO, and pass along valuable information, it was determined that she should be eliminated. Azul attempted to carry out this command, but Shelke was saved by her older sister, Shalua, who lapsed into a coma as the result of the trauma sustained from her fight with Azul.

The concept of self-sacrifice being foreign to her after so long in Deepground, Shelke attempted to understand why Shalua did what she did. In trying to make sense of it, the data files she had previously uploaded began to defragment in her mind, allowing Lucrecia's memories and emotions to come to the surface. In an effort to restore the files, and regain control of her own mind, she offered her assistance to the WRO in determining what Omega is and how to stop him
