This is just how I do it and I am just passing this information on to those who may be interested in how to go about it if they are interested in writing and publishing a book or books. This is only one way of starting out, and nothing is etched in stone. Some people just simply write and then edit or have an editor do the rest. I write and edit my own books so this is just to give an idea!
1. First: Decide what kind of book you’re writing
You don’t need a full plan yet. Just a direction.
Ask yourself: Fiction or nonfiction?
If fiction: Will it be or is it fantasy, gothic, vampire, witchy, cozy, dark, romantic, poetic?
If nonfiction: Is it going to be spiritual, pagan, grief, healing, journaling, affirmations, memoir?
2. Find your core idea (this is the heart)
Every book starts with ONE strong “what if” or purpose.
Examples of this are something like this: What if a vampire survived by hiding among witches instead of humans? What if grief was a form of magic? What if an awakened soul sees the world unravel as illusion?
3. Choose your main character (even if it’s YOU)
Ask yourself who are they?
4. Simple structure (no pressure, no rules)
You don’t need a huge outline. Just simply write. Don't worry about editing or misspelling words. After the story is written is when I go back and spellcheck it and edit. I edit my own books because I can not afford to pay an editor.
No strict timeline is needed, when ever the book ect. gets done it's done. Some books take years or months to write. Its your book so its on your time.
5. Start SMALL (this is important)
Do not start with: “I’m writing a whole book”
Start with: One scene or one chapter or just one poem or even just one page a day!
Even 200 words a day = a book over time.
6. Keep ideas flowing (never run out)
Try these: Write at night or dawn, which ever works best for you.
I usually light a candle before writing.
