In the Filipino shantytown Barangay Acme—“Acmeville” to its exuberant inhabitants—bright-eyed Junie and shifty, mustachioed Dodoy are coworkers constantly angling to outdo each other, in irresponsibility if nothing else. Then Junie accidentally swallows a spider that’s been doused in toxic waste and suddenly finds himself endowed with superhuman abilities. Astounding acrobatics, magnified hearing, wicked fighting skills and sticky orange goo that shoots from his hands, all add up to Junie borrowing a name and look from the Barangay Acme’s most popular comic book, Gagamboy! But there’s a learning curve to being a superhero, especially when you’re someone like Junie, a hot-headed dreamer who often acts before he thinks!
