Circling, turning, shadow soft
they approach in alleys
on roof tops
lingering in doorways
like shades of grinning doom.
Blue white they shine
when filled with hot new blood.
Dull blue they linger
when they hunger
waiting for the foolish wanderer.

I descend
lighter than a snowflake
blacker than the night
mixed with the snow
to hunt
the hunter.

With a whisper and a thought
I take away their prey.
The humans race away
like rabbits released from the trap
while I sip down
the deadly cooling drought.

Descending again, I come,
lighter than the snow
darker than their dreams.
Almost childs play.

I am the thing you fear
I am the the thought you avoid
I am the unseen terror in the dark
I am the darkness in the New Years snow.

I am here, now
again
inevitably
behind you.
