Shadow of the Vampire is one of those small films (it was made for, by today's standards, a paltry $8 million) that is quite better than films with 10 times the budget. This atmospheric and at times tongue in cheek story of director F.W. Murnau's filming of the classic Nosferatu is really a gem. Complimenting it is Daniel Jones' very fine score. It has an eerie beauty that creates the perfect mood for the story. There is the occasional "Kurt Weillish" touch but as the period is 1920's Germany that is quite appropriate. Mr. Jones appears to be a new comer to film music and this early effort makes me hope there is much more to come.
