"Vampires, Dwarves, and Witches Among the Ontario Kashubs presents Perkowski's initial research into Slavic daemons. It is based on the belief system of the Canadian Kashubs, who brought their pantheon of daemons with them when immigrating to the New World. The author attempts to define the function of the Kashubian daemons, among them the vampire, the succubae or mora, the witch (black and white), and the dwarf, which he sees as an attempt to anthropomorphize and thus exorcise a people's unconscious fears (of death and of evil in general), as well as to grasp and find ways of coping with inexplicable natural phenomena."
