The Green Hornet is an upcoming 2011 superhero action/adventure film directed by Michel Gondry. The film is scheduled to be released on January 14th, 2011. It is an adaptation of the radio and television character The Green Hornet. It was announced on April 22, 2010 that the film would be converted to 3D. The film is to be released in both in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D, as well as in 2D.
Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet: The hero of the film; a newspaper publisher, who is secretly the masked crime-fighter 'The Green Hornet'. At San Diego Comic-Con International 2009, Rogen stated that the film will explain Reid's motivation for fighting crime.
Jay Chou as Kato: The Green Hornet's valet and sidekick, who is expertly proficient in martial arts. Chou got the role after Stephen Chow, who was also set to direct the film, backed out of both responsibilities due to scheduling conflicts.
Cameron Diaz as Lenore "Casey" Case: While both the radio and television incarnations depicted Casey as Britt Reid's secretary and confidante, the character, while still being secretary, has been rewritten for the film as "an amateur gumshoe with a penchant for CSI-style TV, who will be unaware of the Reid/Hornet connection.
Christoph Waltz as Benjamin Chudnofsky: A gangster villain created for the film that will reportedly attempt to join all of the mafias of Los Angeles together to form a "super-mafia." Nicolas Cage was originally in talks to play the role of the villain then called Mr. X but would only do it if he would be allowed to speak with a Jamaican accent. Rogen described the character thus:
“There was no classic villain, so we had to create a villain… [he's] not over-the-top. We wanted him to be very scary… We don’t feel that that’s where the comedy in the movie should come from, necessarily.
Analeigh Tipton as Anna Lee
Edward James Olmos will play Mike Axford, Tom Wilkinson will play Britt
Reid's father, and David Harbour has been cast in an unnamed role.
It was rumored that Adam Sandler will have a brief role in the film, but as this was before Gondry signed on as director, it is unknown if this will still occur.
Gondry had previously stated that Van Williams, who played the character in the television series, would make a cameo, but this is no longer the case.
