These earring feature the Order of the Dragon symbol that Vlad the Impaler, better known as Dracula, used to signify his membership in the Order. It is believed that he wore this image as a medallion during his lifetime. The Order of the Dragon was founded in 1408, by Sigismund, the King of Hungary for the purpose of defending the Cross and fighting against the enemies of Christianity, especially the Ottoman Turks. Dracula derived his name from the Order of the Dragon, Dracula means "Son of the Dragon". Vlad's father, Vlad II, received the surname of Dracul, meaning dragon, when he was inducted into the Order in 1431. Dracula himself was inducted into the Order when he was five years old.
The Order of the Dragon earrings are available in sterling silver and 14k. gold. Each charm measures approximately 20.3 mm (13/16") top to bottom, 17.4 mm (11/16") wide, 1.2 mm (1/16") thick. The earrings hang approximately 1 1/4" (32.7 mm) long. The Order of the Dragon earrings weigh approximately 5.1 grams in sterling silver / 6.4 grams in 14k. gold. Includes sterling silver or 14k. gold ear wires.
