Atonia, REM sleep: A frightening form of paralysis that occurs when a person suddenly finds himself or herself unable to move for a few minutes, most often upon falling asleep or waking up. Sleep paralysis is due to an irregularity in passing between the stages of sleep and wakefulness.
The symptoms of sleep paralysis include sensations of noises, smells, levitation, paralysis, terror, and images of frightening intruders. Once considered very rare, up to half of all people are now believed to experience sleep paralysis sometime during their life. Sleep paralysis is not considered to be a sign of a serious condition, although it can be frightening.
Sleep paralysis strikes as a person is moving into or out of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, the deepest part of sleep. During REM sleep the body is largely disconnected from the brain, effectively leaving the body paralyzed. Sleep paralysis is the result of premature (or persistent) mind-body disconnection as one is about to enter into (or exit from) REM sleep.
Sleep paralysis occurs most often after jet lag or periods of sleeplessness that interrupt the normal REM patterns, or after changes in sleep patterns. It affects both sexes equally and occurs at all ages but is most common in teenagers. Sleep paralysis can be familial and may be genetic (inherited) in some cases.
An attack of sleep paralysis is usually harmless and self-limited. It tends to be over in a minute or two as soon as the brain and body re-establish connections and the person is able to move again. However, the memory of the terrifying sensations felt during sleep paralysis can long endure. (Some scholars believe that sleep paralysis may account for some of the old claims of attacks by witches and the more recent "reports" of nocturnal abduction by space aliens.)
Sleep paralysis goes by a number of names, including the "old hag" in Newfoundland (for an old witch thought to sit on the chest of the paralyzed sleeper), "kokma" in the West Indies (for a ghost baby who jumps on the sleeper's chest and attacks the throat), "kanashibari" in Japan and "gui ya" or ghost pressure in China (because a ghost is believed to sit on and assault the sleeper). Medically, sleep paralysis is sometimes called waking paralysis, predormital (before-sleep) paralysis, postdormital (after-sleep) paralysis, and REM sleep atonia.

Hope your friend gets things worked out.
Thanks Oceanne, but too often i see this Atonia, REM sleep...answer to come up, and that might be SOME people's cases but not an answer for ALL cases. I was asking if there was anyone here who knew more about demonic activity, if there was something that could be done as a protection, not really the common scientific answer.
Good post Oceane...:) If it is something paranormal....but just tugging your arm..etc...if it is paranormal...sounds more like the acts of a child-like entity..not a demon. More than likely, your friend is feeling a bit freaked-out.
Rule out the possibilities and likely explanations one by one. This friend could roll their own footage while asleep...see if it is a sleep-related thing...also..does it happen wherever or just in one room, one home...basically does it follow your friend or is it merely attached to the house or maybe a specific object.
Another very possible explanation of the feeling of being tugged on while in bed is even simpler than sleep paralysis...the sensation of being tugged and actually feeling your body move can is termed as myclonic jerking, which is common when falling asleep...it's a spastic discharge of energy going through the body's nerves and can cause a limb or even one's who body to jump or feel pulled.
Most everyone has myclonic jerks from time to time...usually due to lack of sleep, stress, or way too much caffeine...or all of the above. If these things are considered and corrected with proper treatment, this phenomenon may be more of a true physical issue than a paranormal one. If these are not factors and you continue experiencing myclonic episodes, then it may be in your friend's favor to be evaluated for a seizure disorder aka epilepsy...that CAN and DOES interupt sleep patterns and can cause a MULTITUDE of weird feelings and sensations.
Youre welcome...lol yea,no one ever wants to hear that it could be something common or mundane.
But on the other note, yes, there are many things one can do for protection .
Depending on the person and their faith. One can go the Christian route, shaman route, white light type protection..theres a lot of them out there.
As for something in regards to protection...keeping roses and rosewater dedicated to the Archangel Michael (the Angel of Protection) in and around the room, bed, and house will usually alleviate any negative energy..if there truly is any and will give your friend a sense of calm...assuming that the issue is not medical.
Thanks SilverHawk,
Im with you in that one really needs to eliminate things to narrow it all down before jumping to conclusions.Thats where I would start.Silver made a good suggestion in the recording.
You could use mustard seed also as this is supposed to protect one from demons.
Or Sage or Juniper.
You can also use music.
Thanks for these suggestions and i'll pass them along their way and see if they will try them to hopefully find some relief to their problems.
Not saying that i wouldn't accept a mudane answer btw, but was looking for something that COULD be used on the more "spiritual" levels as a way to curb the occurances should they have been more than the mudane.
Ty for the responses. If there's anything more others would like to add, feel free.
Salt is another one that can be used and there are several different methods.Im not really sure what youre getting at because when it comes to demons,if you have somehow already determined that it IS one, there isnt just a blanket protection that will protect one from all of them..Most of the time you need to find out the nature of it,possibly its name and then you act accordingly.
It is like medicine though..you have to go through a process of elimination before you can really proceed, so dont discount a possible answer simply because it might be medical or scientific.
Well it's like i said priorly that i don't discount the mudance answers, but should this be a case where it may be more than mudane, then i was curious what could be used to keep the negative energy for HER at bay or whatever could be attached to her, because from the information i'm given....it's enough to where the parents had contacted paranormal investigators, so apparently it's a common occurance, not just for her but perhaps for the entire family living in that house.
I am simply trying to find answers for them, something they could use to alleviate some of these issues going on for her and the family of the house.
If the suggestions like roses, music, etc etc are something they could try, then why not?
Absolutely.
But be cautious in trying all of these things with the belief that all will be well and therefore end up ignoring something else that could really be the underlying cause. Because in the end,if it isnt a demonic incident and you end up doing all this "stuff" to drive it off, that act in itself could be detrimental to the family. On several levels.
All Im saying is do some homework before you tell them demons are the cause..for everyone's sake.
Try the recording, thats an excellent place to start.
According to your profile you had some visits yourself. And if anyone tells me that they're not like any other kid...this tells me they have an overly active mind. Good or bad, makes no difference to me. But it does lead to, say, issues.
You, your family, or anyone else that has this problem needs to make a fresh start. Or clear the air.
Before you do anything - clean the house! Top to bottom. Clear the clutter. Use natural products if you like or add oils to the water. Then get yourself a witch or someone that knows how to smudge. Throughout the whole house. Windows opens. Think of one hell of a spring cleaning.
Take a shower afterwards. Then take a few moments to ask the powers of be to protect - your choice. Basic prayers do wonders. Do this as a family.
Leave the house, after closing the windows and locking doors, go get something to eat. Plant a flower or bush in the yard as soon as you can as a sign of thanks and humility.
There is no need to try and figure out what is, or not, happening. Stuff happens. Clean-up and move on.
No worries.
regardless Demons are real, they are not the physical manifestations we come to believe they are, however they insubstantial creatures in which they feed through the negativity of sin. Of course they're many different type of demons, depending on the dreams, the feeling after words, the events in the house or the locations that go on when they manifest in some measure will determine the type.
As you begin to try and cleanse or deal with it, depending on how it manifest, what it does when it can, depends on the strength. In this, it becomes hard to deal with demons since they are not dead spirits, but living incarnations of something darker than anyone would wish to revel in.

Anyone truly interested in this should watch THE RITE.
They obviously did their homework, hats off for that.
Firstly, an individual can be as nnormal as you and me, thats where most folks go wrong.
Occasionally, they are taken, itching , tremors...all TRUE
If it gets bad they become truly demonic aqnd their darkside takes them completely, they will have ZERO memory of events.
Perhaps only whispers or dark dreams but afterwards be completely normal evem if their boady had done rediculous stuff, feats of strength rage etc. This is not to be confused with drug abuse such as PCP which is an addiction that enhances muscle power.
They say you have to let it in and I think this is true. However, once it is in it can be muted and the dark threads can be cut to reduce the potency. It can be a manageable condition with guidance and meditation.
BillytheJust, I would like to express that MY personal expriences have absolutely NOTHING to do with this issue and as far as the overly active mind thing goes, i'll cross out that statement.
As for the rest of the suggestions, ty i appreciate them.
You could go to a priest and have him determine whether he needs to exorcise the house.
There are other who also know the information on demons, besides priests, its best to determine what it is first before you attempt anything. Being able to purify they house would be nice, however there is usually a reason for it. Some 'activity' isn't always based around demons, there are some creatures that aren't demons, some are creatures of native lore who you could serious piss off if you don't research.
I am along the same line of thought as you are Sin.I would make darn sure that I covered as many bases as I could before hand before concluding it is a demon.
And thats what I was attempting to explain earlier, that there are so many different avenues that one could take to deal with one,its a bit tough to start just start putting them all up in a thread.
Just be lucky this isn't Japan, there are nearly thousands of different type of spirits, Ghosts and Demons and each has a different aspect that needs to be dealt with or its going to make things worse.

For sure.
It was a posed question anyways, from someone who had made a fake/temp profile. .
But when I read it,I couldnt help but to think of that story about Emily? I think that was her name,or close.Where they just assumed it was a demon and ended up killing her or something.
I dunno,it just seems to be something that you would want to approach with prudence.
A friend of mine lived in a house in Okinawa that had Ghost Children. That was interesting, they would turn stuff over or make a mess, you can hear them giggling or running from time to time. If you payed attention you would see shadows on the walls moving or a child shadow.
Have her go to a priest, or someone in the church. At least they can offer her some level of comfort while she awaits the paranormal investigators. Either that, or have her get a psychic medium or something like that to come out and tell her if it's truly demonic.
Blessings would work well, just need to be safe about how you address the creature in your home though.
I'm not even saying blessings on the home or anything. I mean, it may be good for the people involved to know that there is someone on their side, even if this entity is indeed demonic in nature.
I would tend to agree with that Bnrd.In a siuation like that, some kind of support system would be really important.
Well, since the user has decided to delete I suppose they've received the answers that they were looking for.
Just a word of advice-
Before jumping to conclusions that it is a demonic entity, you need to rule out the simple things first. Therapy is also an option because there could be something in the brain that is making things seem like something they aren't.
