What do you think will happen when the mayan caledar ends? Apocolypse, ascension, nonexistance etc state your ideas here.
I think if they still existed as a culture they would get another circular stone and make a calender for the next thousand years.
Like with Nostradamas prediction, nohing much will change. But who knows?
Whoah I'm just a simple man, if its all physics why would it be a spiritual event?
What I cant understand is how the Mayans constructed this calendar. Its said they did so by studying the stars. Well thats great and all, I can go out and look at the stars every night, but without a telescope, which if I am correct was not invented until Galielo, and some precise mathematical measurements, I couldn't possibly sense all the small changes. So with that being said, how did the Mayans do it?
"Whoah I'm just a simple man, if its all physics why would it be a spiritual event?"
Because its all the same thing Hunter.;)
As already stated in this thread there are a number of possibilities that could happen on December 21, 2012 when the mayan calender ends. Extinction, spiritual events Nostradamus predictions etc. We will not fully know what happens until we get to that date. Until then the predictions are just that..... Predictions.
I was kinda severely disappointed when the world didn't go up in flames and Mad Max chaos didn't ensue on the stroke of midnight 2000.
Modern calendar makers had their Millennium Bug and after all the doomsday predictions, nothing happened at all.
So in order to save myself from another disappointment, I'll just have wait and see.
Question to Mayan Calendar officionados - does it really tally that well with the Gregorian Calendar?
the mayans may not of had telescopes but they did have other tools and the priest that passed knowledge down for generations. who knows maybe the aliens gave the info maybe not. they did have thier measuring devices and they had the mayan zodiac which was impressive for its time. thier calendar like manybthings we use today uses star movement and cosmic coordinates including the past events that we see now happening due to the millions of lightyears. technically they studied the past in order to see the future. remember they did not have all those city lights we have now that pollute the skys. they could observe whole galaxies and supernovi. some places on earth you still can.
also they stil exist as a culture they are more or less mexico 's and south america's natives. there is not alot of them most are guerillas. the remnants are not like the old they are of more modern age now.
I know exactly what will happen on Dec 21, 2012!!
The Mayan calendar will come to an end. lol
Look the Mayan calendar is based on three different time systems... None of which correspond to the calendar system we use today. In fact the Dec 21st dead line it's self is a modern guess based on what we think our time would be for their measurements. A guess not a prophetic line in the sand!!
It actually doesn't end the calendar restarts at the beginning. It would be a new age as they claim.
If you read more of the archeological facts the science thats what most scientist concur with is a new beginning. Just like everyone else in the world they had thier own apocalypse. Apocolypse does not mean end it means beginning. just like they had thier own vampire
just as such the age of aquarius. that states we are colliding with another galaxy
these things will not happen. The Mayan calendar is so way off in its calculations. If the earth does end it will likely be to our continued misuse of the worlds resources and pollution.
didnt say it would. but it may be renewed or it may not. its just an opinion. most scientist dont think it will end just like most people believe we will never run out of oil. that we are just syphoning the planets blood. I have no opinion except maybe there will be celebrations or some more riots.
looting for sure, lets be honest whenever anything happens or expected to happen there is always looting.
Well if the end of thge world as we know it would happen, the plant life, oceans and many species would still be alive to some point and simply repopulate.
I think people would panic, and riot. Some would try to horde food but then again what good would that do?
Well one things for sure.... if we wait long enough we'll find out. Maybe this natures way of cleaning house, we survived it before and made it to this point. Either way the outcome should prove to be interesting.
It could be interesting to muse that the calendar ends because something incredibly good will happen that will make stone calendars redundant.
LOL - everyone on Earth standing stock still at the same time, waking up and going, WTF?
That would be amusing ...
Well I think there'd have to be a tremendous human awakening to a point, and not sure at this time if we're ready to embrace it, especially where money, media and sense of power go hand in hand.
Im thinking more alnog the lines of this..

Don't expect much on december 21, 2012.
Each time a prediction doesn't come out, people find another one to say them when the end will come.
Meanwhile writers & moviemakers earn a lot of money on it.
The question with the Mayan calendar is if it was read in the right sequence, much of the historic material that is used, could be translated wrongly, as on restoration, the glyphs were not put back in the correct order.
As such there is even a discussion, on which date the calender really ends. Have heard several dates, such as Octobre 28, 2011 or December 21, 2012 and even December 21, 2220.
So best not to worry to much about what is going to happen and enjoy life to the fullest.

I do not beleive that the world will end. The Mayan calender may end on that date but I think that things will go on.
The Mayan Calendar also didn't take into account hour many hours in a day and how many days in a month, in their proper timing and duration. Most tribal societies did things around seasons oif hunting/gathering/ and agriculture.
There were also some records lost and destroyed by the catholic church, because they were considered heretical
One believes we will have more big storms and quakes, leading up to the meteor strike 22 years on.
Everyone moans about these natural catastrophes instead of embracing them?
The truth is the world needs a good cull to balance population with resources.
Instead of worrying and bemoaning the fall of man here is a a good way to celebrate this tumultuous re balance-
Hey the Earth shifts, and does its things. If not we'd all be dead really. They're ordered of themselves.
the mayan calendar wss the calendar for the cosmos. its length is in thousands of years this is no earthly calendar.
