So if vampires are a person or a thing, (bat) and gothic is a style why do people confuse them to be the same??
they each take ideas from each other in most cases...
it could be said that they are good friends hand in hand... but even the best of friends have falling outs
;)
can you really see a vampire in pink with yellow polkadots?
Broadly speaking, the term 'Gothic' refers to the architecture of Northern Europe from the 12th to the 16th century. In Britain, architecture was the dominant art form throughout the medieval period and the Church its foremost patron. Gothic, meaning 'light', demonstrated a daring architectural ingenuity that allowed the building of taller, thinner structures with larger windows, made possible by the introduction of external buttresses to support the soaring columns and arches of the new style.
And the settings for most vampire films and costume... simple as...
If you see the 'gothic; of modern/mainstream culture, it is usually completely different from what it originated as. Gothic has different meanings, theres Dhampirs opinion on architecture, theres the gothic novel etc. I think although the two are closely linked, the link has become more tenous sicne goth came from punk/the new-romanticism of the 1980s.
i think that gothic people are an extension of vampires a kind of evolution stage (if thats the right term) for mortals.
i dont know if that makes any sense.
my guess is that some ppl are just ignorant and will classify anything together.
There is a stream known as gothic, that is not associated with vampires at all.
There are also vampires that are not gothic. Believe it or not! No they don't wear pink and yellow pokadots. Look at it this way, it is related to climate and comfort.
I was gothic, still am at heart. I've worn the black patent leather, the black silks and lipsticks and all, but that tends to make life a 'little' uncomfortable in Phoenix when it's oh....120 degrees out.
They are just two great tastes that taste great together. *wink
"I think there for I am"...
Some people concidered themselfs as whatever they want to be but, if u dont believe who u are...
how u want others to believe it too??
Although they are mutually exclusive, they might diverge into the same category simply because they are immaculate depictions of a darker realm.
I think Deity has a point. When something can mean something else in essence, although not completley, one may truncate the differing images into one catergory.
They often go hand in hand.
It's not people's fault - they're just stupid. They don't realize that one doesn't equal the other.
very simple answer.....most people....95+% ARE SHEEP
they believe what they are told to believe....
there needs not be some deep meaning...common sense just isn't very common
i also agree with Daermon. and i think it's because of the media. all the wrong messages are being sent to ppl and they are stupid enough to believe it.
I also agree with Daermon. I think because many people are followers they will believe anything people tell them.
*mesmerized look
I loved it. Much better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again.
Baaa...
i never though this thread would even take off but thank you all for the look see
Vampirism is associated with Gothics because they are catagorized. To be a vampire you must be gothic, or so it seems in todays world. Its just they way.
only hollywood made it seem that way..i can see your point it goes back to the sheep thing
yeah thats i good point bout being told what to belive, in some sense its like the population hangs on the every word of the teachers at school and the media on television, also what they read in the papers
heres something to think on concerning sheep tho...
how many actually thought this themselves...and how many only thought of it after I said it.....
see even us open minded people can be sheep....
'Gothic' seems to have come to represent a mood..a certain setting.. origonally architecture and arms/armor this mood and setting has also come to encompass specific kinds novels (almost as far back as the architecture arms/armor), movies, music, a particular style of clothing, patterns and art upon canvas and tapestries.. anything else of which it's mediam falls upon a similar vaine *shrugs* ...the renisance I've noticed has been considered the pinical of 'gothic' creation yet in all the above set in a bright and fasinateing way while still holding that core mood
Sorry sweety but goth is a state of mind not a style.....plus it has all that 12th century architecture with it........
'Vampires'....hmm depends what your idea of this creature you have, doesnt it....
it is now maybe a state of mind but it started as a style only hollywood turned it into a vampire thing. i like the gothic stuff, and things people wear, but it really started as a style
Yeah hollywood made being Gothic/Vamp out to be something its not. Its now a fashion trend, glamour. Its stupid.
