Has the TV & Film industry glamouriesd vampires and made young people see them as charismatic creatures that can live forever
I don't know about everyone else but, sparkling vampires would be the EPITOME of "glamorized" to me.
Notice how they are all rich ,kind, and soo good looking? Never ugly, nasty unless they are the "bad ones". Come on they are souless.
There is currently another thread similar to this one already .
If you're referring to the "What has today's society done to vampires?" thread, they are somewhat similar yet, ask two very different questions.
Or, I could be completely wrong. LOL
I was asking about the way TV and Film gives the impression that vampires can lead normal lives, like go to school have relationships, i thought they were actually dead or am i wrong
I think it depends on the kind of vampire. Vampires have a cuple difrent lores... but if it sparkles it is NOT a vampire =)
With respect.
To answer your question...it's yes and no.
For every "Interview With The Vampire" there is a "30 Days of Night". So, we get both the glam and the gore.
Personally I almost needed a sick bag when I saw Twilight and those other horrid films and TV series.
movies and tv and films only have one thing and one goal (at least for 99%) of them is: what can sale? what can make profits? what can make money?
they do not care about anything else so if sparkle sales then they will sparkle if dancing on a cheese cake sale they will make it dance on a cheese cake
In my opinion, it has. Vampires are not pretty, they don't sparkle, and they have fangs. They don't have souls, and they rarely care about humans. Yet, what do we see in most vampire books, shows, and movies? Vampires falling in love with humans, trying to lead normal lives. Oh, and they're always pretty or handsome, they live on piles of money, and everyone loves them. Dracula wasn't handsome, he lived off terror, not money, he killed humans, he took the prettiest ones to be his wives, and no humans loved him. And vampires shouldn't be permitted to be able to go out in the sunlight, it makes no sense. That just makes them immortal, blood sucking hunks. The only vampire allowed in the sun, in my opinion, should be Blade, since he's only half vampire.
Today's culture has ruined vampires... :'(
I think movies have made them a bit more public friendly. I remember vampires being cold blooded monsters and now we have humane vampires. It's an eyebrow quirking change to say the least.

Authors should have the freedom to write them however they want them to be-- but this glamorization is nothing new. This might've been a topic of discussion decades ago... but for a very long time, they have been written as more of a super-being that people aspire to be.
They aren't writing about anything real- it's supposed to be fake... and with that, where ever the pen leads them.
I don't think tv and films are too far from the truth in some aspects of vampirism, however i thought vampires are the ones that did the glamoring? ;)
If you mean what science states a vampire is (not a blood-sucking, lives forever, blah blah) then YES.
But if you mean as to the myths/lore/stories, then NO. Like Images stated, they're really whatever you want them to be.
Just My Humble Opinion.
Naturally movies and hollywood would glam up a vampire and make them seem like this amazing person who lives the best live ever, even if theres the gore in it they still walk away like 'Tralala, I'll live forever. Forget this'
Plus on the subject of Twilight, I laughed the whole time. I've never seen anyone sparkle. Maybe I'm the only person who hasn't seen it, but that WHOLE series is silly. I'd rather seem them die in the sun. Which is sad to say, but true.

Everyone has an opinion- mine is that people are trying to change the 'vampire' from the way the world had always regarded it: a legend. It was never before this 'human living vampire' till recently. And even major names in the 'community' admit vampire is a misnomer. But still... so many supposed HLV's are running around with fake contacts, fangs, and velvet capes... who's copying who? Can't really complain about TV and movies when these people are trying to look just like them while trying to convince people they are the 'real' vampires.
Besides, I'd have no interest in a vampire movie that wasn't fantastical. It'd be pretty boring if it wasn't. Can't see myself getting all hyped over people sucking energy from each other... that's what people do as 'people', every single day.
Vampirism in my opinion is both a philosophy and lifestyle however there have been people such as Don Henrie who go out of their way just to look spooky and starnge. Does a diservice when I'm trying to explain about vampirism.

My view would go off on a completely different topic and sway the thread- but I don't believe anyone is special in 'needing' energy from others. That's why solitary confinement in prison is such a punishment. No one goes to solitary and comes out feeling dandy without human contact for so long. We all need it. I'll never be convinced other people need it so much that they should be considered more than a needy human.
I think books, TV, and movies do a great job bringing us glorious fiction as we like it. And people here must like it to - to be such fans of what we catalog in our database. It's compiled of mostly fictional goodness.
Yes movies and Tv do make it look better then it actually is. But think about it, We are all going to die one day and living forever is a pipe dream. Most people would gladly be a 'monster" to have a chance at living forever.
It is the same with the whole zombie infatuation lately, if we are going to die then possible we will come back to life and walk as the dead.

I don't want to walk as the dead. But we've all got our dreams.
i personaly think they should re-create the vampire mythology.make it more amusing..
In the movies where the vampires are depicted as so close to humans (Twilight movies) the essence is lost. The vampire is not important, not in the plot and not as a metaphor. It became merely a pretext, a way to add some spice to the movies about adolescence problems. maybe that`s why these kind of movies seem so superficial/artificial.
A big YES!!!!! Thanks to writers and directors, The Vampires phenomenon will never die. But, they have created a different Vampire, a Vampire who can Love and feel feelings and emotions, while, by the contrary, Vampires are Sanguinary creatures, who need top kill to survive.

I like to think to that the 'community' has created a different kind of vampire. In may ways, books and film have stayed true to myth with the exception of glittering vampires- that I am so tired of hearing people complain about... the hate of the books seems far more annoying then the books could ever be. I get some people don't like it- but the haters have taken it to such a level that they've only helped it. And I could never be upset that Stephenie Meyer brought kids to books that were never readers before. The relationship between Edward and Bella is not something to hold in high esteem- but it wouldn't be the first story where that is true. Just read Wuthering Heights- it's one of my favorite all time stories, yet the relationship is one for the shrinks to handle, at best.
We had hundreds of years of myth and lore- now people want to change it and say it's just normal. Screw that- give me magic, or nothing at all, I say! I can't get into this Biblical vampire crap (in my opinion) as a Theological Education major, myself. I am well-versed in ancient Hebrew writing styles... and this claim holds no water with me.
Stick to your guns, believe what you need to inside. Don't change your view because of mine, but I - stand fast.
Books and film have given us art. And thank God for that. It baffles me that I come here to read at times, people putting down everything that sparked them to go in this 'direction' in the first place. If books and film were to remove everything that some people complain about, it would be utter crap. I love the fantasy. I'm not here to be a part of AverageJoeRave.com I'm here for VampireRave.com- with a nice little dark and evil "Vampire Rave" audio file when I reload the home page. I want things that are not normal when I read or watch about vampires.
If you are a member of Vampire Rave with all our kudos to fiction and entertainment in the database and elsewhere... I think you are lying to yourself and everyone else if you say you're not into the well-known fictional legend we all first knew. Some people have this dire need to identify with things other than their human boundaries. I know who I am, I embrace the things I feel and open myself to. I am not special- I'm just willing, seeking, and absorbing. Many on this site will see me and call me an 'average person' simply because of what I wear- when what's on the outside is what they always bitch about others judging.
These kinds of conversations throw me into a mental frenzy. Hypocrisy is all around. Going a little deeper here... If you're looking for a visual and a story to give you *literal* truth- you are NEVER going to find it. You have to have a bigger mind than that. There is a difference between truth and fact. Something might not be factual, but still be true. Just read Aesop's Fables.
I love creativity and imagination- I am a staunch supporter as a writer myself.
Posted with respect.
Well said, Images.
As I stated before...just because we may not like another's point of view regarding vampires in fiction, they still have the right to write whatever the hell they want!
Growing up, Vampires and Weresovles were scary, these days everyone wants to day them...

Yes, I have not read any old lore that vampires or any other so called demon was a romantic or had feelings for humans. They were food. Tv or Hollywood has changed the fables of the monster into a teen idol ( sorry for the pun)
Michelle Berlanger and others such as Lady CG jave adressed these issues in a modern vampire culture series. Personally O get weary of the questions about asking me to "tyrn them." I ask them where they got these ideas and all I get, is from something they've seen in fims and TV. AS a community, I believe there needs to be a response from responsible people. Infortunately there are those in the vampire community that perpetuate the problem, of coming off, as mysterious, dark and frightening. Do I really need people to think that of myself?
