The nature of this society schema and the criteria make it impossible to rate profiles with any meaningful thoughts. When I first started here, I tried to offer comments that were substantive in giving my reasons for the score I gave.
I quickly learned that quantity is valued over quality. You see, a person who rates you a 9 with contructive comments is given no more credit for her rating than someone buzzing by, giving you a 10 to curry favour and throwing a stamp on it.
The rating system is flawed because of this. It is flawed because the sheer number of beings here prevents any meaningless discourse to occur regarding profiles.
So there you have it, Now, I for one will not, not even for the sake of coven/house ratings grant a 10 to a profile that has one quote on it because so many have actually put WORK into what they have done. To THOSE profiles, I DO stop and make comments and I rate them highly - usually a NINE if there is a preponderance of quizzes and other people's writings or images but at least arranged tastefully, or a TEN if the brunt of the profile - even if it IS small is by and large ORIGINAL work.
I will NOT grant anything above a six for a profile that says: "Deth iz kewl so f**k off". Sorry, but it is my belief that most people who are genuinely interested in the subject manner will take the time to create a profile that goes beyong the pueriloe type of quote noted above. On the same token, I do not rate profiles anywhere within 1-5 because I believe in giving people positive incentive to make them work for a rerate.
So, I am not rating TENS across the board.
That being said, I tend to ONLY rate profiles I know I will give between an 8-10 rating.
If everyone rates indiscriminately then we only INVITE more wankers aboard. If quantity is valued over QUALITY in ratings, then at least put some worth into the QUALITY of the person.
I have my flame suit donned so fire away if you desire.

it is your choice how you rate and there have been so many threads on this topic already
I agree. I only rate a person higly if they have actually wokred on their profiles, and made them interesting. For the one's that have nothing in them, I usually leave a comment to add more, which let's us get to know the person better and gives them an incentive to work at their profile.

While there may have been many threads regarding this, it is still a hot button issue, and since you are at a level "higher" than I, it stands to reason that there is a very real possibility that I have not had the time as of yet to encounter these threads. And if I had, I would still post because the problem remains.
As you see, I have received a response, so there IS merit to the discussion and I believe that the Admins should consider - and these would be THEIR choices - to "sticky" certain topics. This is a common practise on message boards.
I do appreciate your thoughts on the matter, however. And while their may be other threads regarding any number of topics, there is nothing within the terms of membership that states that I cannot create a new thread if I feel it still merits discussion.
A good eve to you LordVampirio, and may the Night enfold you.
Mediocrity is the bane of existing in organized society, people tend towards it to disguise their own general insecurities.
I am a teacher by nature and profession. It was hard for me to learn to give an "F", but some people earn them. To most with even the most basic hint of trying, self-description, etc. I will rate in the mid-range and stamp. Effort and any originality...even if its just in text, I rate higher. Unwarranted profanity and hostility have no place in my life, and frankly, I do not feel welcoming toward these people. If someone were to ask me why I rated as I did, I would be happy to tell them. I don't skip rating people, because this also goes to the point of statistically inflating piss poor effort while undermining those who work very hard at it.
I AGREE it annoys me that people rate me because of the way i look. I took so much time over my profile and i wonder who read it??? Someone sent me a message saying 'can you tell me your name and age? i didnt read your profile because i was blinded by your beauty' I want people to read my profile so they know what i AS A PERSON am about!!!!!!
if someone deserves a high rate or a comment i will give it to them, I rate a lot of 7s and 8s, and often don't leave any comment, and sometimes stamp. there are some profiles that i believe deserve 9s or 10s and a good original comment, but profiles need to be up to par.
well
I am new here and can only speak for myself. I do not rate based on a picture, but on the overall content an how it leaves me feeling. Pictures are PART of it but not the ALL of it. But in a way, that is part of the problem (if it IS a problem) since shows that everyone rates in different ways..is this good or bad? I don't know. I have never seen the previous threads but it seems that the rating system is for showing off some popularity, or likes or dislikes...... no system will be entirely inpartial or fair if it involves human interactment. maybe a sencondary system that rates based off of hits to a page...........???
I just don't know, but I am having fun here....aren't you?
Shangri-La has yet to be discovered, and tirades concerning a system that is obviously based on popularity are fruitless when they are aimed at the very popular meters they consider.
^^ you might have an interesting point on a different thread, but as to this thread, your comment bears no directional relationship. the question is :Why are new people who write things like "F*uck you all" getting 10's on their profiles? The very point is that it undermines the people who work hard on their profiles, spend time getting to know people, and EARN the higher scores. If someone here is "popular" because people like what they are doing, more power to 'em.
well its just makes it so you just don't say hi like the pro on every one
I couldn't agree more...hence I usually don't leave an original comment and just stamp with a lower rate for profiles with asinine quotes or something like "I'm me fuck off" or something or other in there description page.
Everyone has the right to rate as they want.
I won't rate hi with profiles that have nothing and the user is here more than a month.
And if you have a rant I have another.Nowadays people rate 10 as a welcome when I first joined I was given one's immediately, wow that was a nice welcome!I can guess why cause my pro was still empty but I was just joined!
And you're going to find it everywhere.
People with nothingo n their pro who get rated a 10 and people who break their balls with the pro and get a one!
No one said life is fair and it's something we can't control.

I base everything I rate on what I learn about the person, and the time that I can tell they took to make their profile. I don't expect perfection on a profile because some are not as good with html as others. I do agree that a person should not be rated high if they are not worthy of the rating. A 10 should be a reward for a job well done so to say.
