Questions on “The Vampire Rave Database.”

“The Vampire Database was the original focus of Vampire Rave. It’s Vampire Rave’s mission to catalog every occurrence of vampires throughout history in all media formats. Although Vampire Rave has continued to expand laterally, it’s original mission remains.”
The VR Manual, the Vampire Database.

“At the base of every Vampire Database section is a suggestion form that you can fill out. Completion of the form does not guarantee inclusion into the Vampire Database. Currently the Vampire Rave administration has several thousand suggestions in queue. Eventually all suggestions will be reviewed, but it will take time.”
“The Vampire Database is maintained by Vampire Rave Administrators and Procurators.”
The VR manual, the Vampire Database.

The very next page in the VR Manual states in part...”If you would like to have a listing considered for entry into the Vampire Database you can contract a Procurator directly.”

I have counted and see twenty three sections of the VR Database. Everyone of them asks for three things. “Your name,” “your e-mail,” and “your suggestion.”

I don’t mean to be a pain in the arse but several questions have come to the surface, including from other members. Since this is the original reason for VR, it would be both helpful and beneficial to have these answered in the greater interests of the community and to Vampire Rave. Any Procurators, Administrators that have the time to post are welcome to answer in full or part.

Having your name and e-mail filled out is pretty simple. There was a question that someone raised, ‘is there a reply message sent that states if your submission was approved or refused?’ And if I send a submission directly to a procurator, does this also imply? I also noticed that direct submissions may go to a procurator but not to an Administrator. Although, they too work on the VR Database.

One of the main issues that concerns me is not so much as how does one submit a suggestion (it is already stated that there are two ways to do this) but what “makes a suggestion?” If all it took was to say ‘I like this item, please add it,’ then I’ll just say add half of the “Pyramid Catalog” and half of the “Toscano Catalog” and so forth. Then I can say, ‘I saw this great TV show and they had a vampire on it.’ ‘Add it to the database.!’ There is more to it than this, is there not?

If I wanted to add one thing to the VR Database, what does a person need to include? The name, what it is, where I found/saw/watch/read it, do I need to do the write-up for it, or maybe include a picture/ link? Some help here is definitely needed. I for one, feel like I’m hanging in the breeze. Granted that there are several thousand in queue already (so some people know what is needed) maybe if some help is offered to clear some things, it would be help the Procurators and Administrators to lighten their loads. The more the person who submits the suggestion does, the less someone else does on the other side. “Many hands does light work.”

“Vampire Rave is the largest Database ever compiled by one man.” ~ BillytheJust. Period. I see no reason why it has to be so mysterious as a member to add to that database. Maybe it’s me and I’m making it harder than it is. But there are others asking the same questions. A little insight would be helpful to all.

Thank you in advance for your courteous replies.

For the record, I have over 5000 pending Vampire Database addition requests. When you fill out that form, I get an email with the details.

These requests will most likely not be processed. It's an unworkable system.

I will be designing a new system that the Procurators will run. Requests will go into a queue. Procurators can then review and add/delete as they are submitted.

I do not have a timeline for when this will be ready. Until I get the new system online for the Procurators, making requests is pointless.

So, Administrators and Procurators are taking it on queue. Just like actors! ;)
Looking forward to an easier workable system.

i must agree that a queue sounds like a terrific idea. and the sooner the quicker. so much stress on a single person is just unfair. but also only decent things should be added to the data base. strictness sounds ideal.

I am patient and will be interested in seeing the new things added to the database, once the system is workable. I am especially interested in seeing new things in the clothing section.

Yes, we could also use more efficient systems all over the site, and I am sure that eventually VR will have them in place. For now I will sit tight and bear with it. *raises a glass in toast* Here's to VR's greatness.

This thread is now closed. We all have the answer that applies to the Database at the moment. This thread is starting to go in the wrong direction. If anyone needs to reread it, it's in my journal. Thank you admin for your quick response. ~ Billy
