I just wanted to ask what effect that the gothic art has on young children?
I am new to this site and since joining its become quite addictive, I have two children aged 3 and 6 which they are always peering over my shoulder to which they can see the pictures on the site.
Is this wrong of me to introduce such art?

Not directly because not all Gothic art is horrible or evil or whatever people like to think these days. Gothic art is a combination of different elements whether that is dealing with dark fantasy scenes or erotic scenes, traditional gothic architecture, or just vampires, demons etc... I suggest not having them look at things that you feel as a parent is not right. I doubt anything on here is that horrible to scare your children.

To follow state and federal law, make sure that said gothic pictures do not have nudity. Other than that, it depends on the rules of your house hold. There is a good chance that your children won't remember the pictures, especially the youngest one.

The young need to be exposed to all art in all of it's mediums. You must though remain a parent and 'censor' those things that you feel that they are not ready for. You need to be ready to answer any questions that they develop from what they see. I haven't seen anything that I wouldn't let children see. I am though not a parent.

i love all the gothic art, its different and appealing to me.
The thing that worries me is the slaughter pictures.
Do you think that these imageswill have an effect on them in later life or will they see it as i do , art?

My kids are 5 & 13. The 13 year old loves it and the 5 year old gets scared. I think it depends on your child.

The 13 year old is like me but the 5 year old is a sweetie and hates scary stuff.

Most of the time I wait until both are asleep and wander through VampireRave.

I know that my children should be shown things under my supervision so then i can explain to them myself the way i would like them to see it.
As i have noticed that on some bill boards in the streets and the tv ads can be a little disturbing ie: the 'stop smoking' ones.

You know, it's all in what you want your children exposed to.

I'm an artist, so I explain to them what I get out of a piece that I see.

Art doesn't have to be beautiful. Some art is made to provoke.

It is up to you on just how you raise your children, that is your choice. But VR does allow that type of content. So the ultimate choice is yours to make.

You are their protector. You know what is right and wrong. There is alot on TV and in the world today, even at schools. They will see alot more than you want them too, so you need to make sure that they are given the opportunity to see all different types of art as well as being able to express themselves. I have 5 children from ages of 3 to 15, and all are girls but one and he is 6. I know they are well rounded and I try to let them see as much art and experience all types of music to expand their minds, however, I do not let them see anything too graphic.
