Greetings,

I am making this thread with primary reference to Kim Harrison's The Hollows Series...

In this story LIVING VAMPIRES, are vampires born from vampiric parents... that possess lessened vampiric strengths...

But more importantly when they die they become a true vampire.

Basically this thread is enquiringly on the personal views of members on such a thing...

I've never read the series myself, but I think that it is an interesting concept. Personally, most of the things i have seen have said that either A: vampires cannot reproduce like that, or B: if a child were to be born to vampire parents it would be a vampire.

I do actually like the idea of "living vampires" it makes things unique in a certain way saying that even this thing of darkness and death can create a life, or rather, a pseudo-life. I think it's an interesting concept and I'd actually like to read more about it.

Good question.Lamia(family vampires)were the first,made vamires are slightly different.But i firmly believe that vampire is in the soul,you are either one or you are not.I was always of vampiric ilk from a very young age.but it was eleven years ago when i met myawakener.i dont think i,m totally awakened yet.my parents are both human

I too have not read these books, but the idea is great. I shall go investigate these novels.

Perhaps it's just me... as usual... but does anyone else find troubling how apparently common it is here to view complete fiction as arguable fact?

Here the questioner prefaces his query by stating that it is based solely on a fictional story re: "Living Vampires" written by (i.e., concocted solely from the imagination of) Kim Harrison. He then proceeds to asks others' opinions as though the question were one of actual legitimate intellectual inquiry, as though such fiction were indeed a possible reality.

Fiction is fiction, people. There are no such things as wookies, Vulcans, or... vampires (i.e., "undead" beings needing to drink blood or suck energy to live).

P.S. Oh... and "suavevamp," there's a reason why both your parents are Human: they, like you, were born that way. The difference is that they recognize that simple biological fact... and you have instead refused to do so.

Be it fiction, true, but the idea of two vampires be it born that way or bitten, to possibly fall in love and go through the motions to bear offspring is far fetched as best even for the most imaginative of us.

It is also interesting to have views and opinions popping up from the older members of the site compared to the newer ones. And how greatly they vary is always astounding.

All fiction is based in fact somewhere along the line. Anne Rice and the White Wolf series are accepted as arguable sources of information and vampires... why not put forth questions on the bits and pieces in fiction that are interesting and COULD very well have some relevance.

Who are you to judge what is relevant and what is not?

It is incumbent upon us all to judge for ourselves what we choose to believe or not to believe, what we consider real or not real. For those of us who value intellectual inquiry, such skepticism is a welcome and valued attribute, and I make no apology for it.

Your question asked of us all to make such a judgment. And I made that judgment based upon facts and Reality... with which you have chosen to take exception. That is as much your prerogative as it also ought to be mine to disagree with it.

Never read the books and I would think we all know that fiction from reality. I would think that would make for some interesting reading..

the books sound interesting, but I am not sure if I believe in the vampires of movies and books, the immortal ones with super strength.

i need to read these books but from what you have described of the story line it might be closer to the truth than even she would think

Unigon....did you say a decade? I don't think any woman would be willing to carry a child for a decade.... 9 months is bad enough.
