Ancient cultures tried to understand why the Sun temporarily vanished from the sky so varies reasons where created. However, in most cultures the legends seem to always involve some form of mythical figures eating or stealing the Sun. Though some viewed it as a sign the Gods were angry

The Pomo, an indigenous group of people who live in the northwestern United States, tell a story of a bear who started a fight with the Sun and took a bite out of it. In fact, the Pomo name for this strange event is Sun got bit by a bear.

After taking a bite of the Sun and resolving their conflict, the bear, as the story goes, went on to meet the Moon and take a bite out of the Moon as well, causing this event.

The ancient Greeks believed that the cause was a sign of angry gods and that it was the beginning of disasters and destruction.

The Tewa tribe from New Mexico in the United States believed that one of these signaled an angry Sun who had left the skies to go to his house in the underworld.

The folklore around this event is plentiful and every culture seems to have their stories; there reason why it occurs.

In our times fear when this happens still exists today as a lot view it as a evil omen that will bring death, destruction, and disasters.

I am sure most of you have figured out what this event is. It’s a Solar Eclipse and on Monday, August the 21, a solar eclipse will accrue. Since we are due to have one soon I thought we should date Solar Eclipse, the myth, the legends and the facts surrounding this event and what you believe. Then of course there are the myths that are funny like the following:

Medieval folk believed that sex during an eclipse would result in ugly demon-filled children.

Europeans in the middle Ages thought that you should never get it on during a lunar eclipse, because any “moon children” would be born with ugly demons inside them. Then you’d have to pay for their food and shelter, when all they’re going to be good for is being burned at the stake.

A modern superstition also has it that a pregnant woman shouldn’t touch her belly during a lunar eclipse. Doing so will cause the baby to be born with a birthmark - the size of which depends on the force of the touch.

Personally I like to learn what animals and Nature do during a Solar Eclipse because animals’ body-clocks get all messed up.

Also, birds and insects will often lapse into an eerie silence. Those that generally sleep at night will actually begin to get ready for a nap, while nocturnal animals begin to wake up and move around.

Since the darkest part of an eclipse doesn’t last too long, the daytime animals wake up as soon as it’s over and the nocturnal animals try to go back to sleep. They’re all very confused – especially as the earth becomes colder and winds start to rise.

I am hoping to see “Shadow bands”. When the event starts, they seem to be simply lying on the ground. And as the moon makes its way across the sun, the bands seem to move quickly towards you over the ground. Naturally, this freaks people out.

Got to love the internet and what you can find on the world wide web!. I even came across a spell you can do during a solo eclipse:

A magic spell in the time of a solar eclipse, which can bring new opportunities and changes into your life:

Light a white candle for the Sun god and a black one for the Moon goddess. Then repeat the verse:

“As the Sun god and Moon goddess embrace today,
May new opportunities start to come my way,
During this eclipse, the Moon’s shadow is cast on the Earth,
Ushering in a time of balance, magic, and re-birth.”
Allow the spell candles to burn out in a safe place.

What have you heard about solar eclipse? Share your knowledge. Do you plan to experience this one in Aug? What are you looking forward to the most during this event? Will you perform any rituals? Is solar eclipse an evil omen and what type of evil do you think occurs during one?

It's so very beautiful to witness an an they say strange things happen on or around the time as Its happening. As it is about to happen make note all around the world something will take place something great or powerful or something that will shock the world. History is about to make something come true. When this thing happens ask yourself what ties does this have with this event? What will be the outcome?

Well, it really depends on what one personally believes as to whether or not this celestial event has any spiritually significant meaning. Scientifically speaking, of course what happens in the cosmos has an effect on earth. Everything natural in this universe has some sort of connection. So if that is true, then who is to say it can't have a spiritual significance too.

A solar eclipse is usually viewed as a transitory period for the entire world. Be it considered a dragon swallowing the sun, or a serpent devouring the sun, the myths and legends are aplenty. Going on a fast is what is recommended by me, if you ask me. The body is going through a transitory period and I do it mostly so that I obtain the maximum benefit and effect from the solar eclipse. No water, no food, no praying. It is a wonderful moment of still and silence.
