The Myrtles Plantation is touted as "one of America's most haunted homes", the plantation is supposedly home of at least 12 ghosts. From an article on Wikipedia This article gives information on the plantation and the legends of the ghosts "haunting" it.

There are several reports of pictures showing extra people in them when developed or viewed later. I have seen a few myself. The indistinct extra people are generally seen in pictures with a particular mirror in it or in the windows of the plantation house. It is an excellent place to visit in Southern Louisiana near Baton Rouge in Saint Francisville. It also is a bed and breakfast allowing after hours hauntings to occur. ;) The Myrtles plantation has its own website with many pictures of the plantation.

My questions are:

Do you believe in ghosts or other haunts? Why?

Do you believe the plantation is haunted or it is a big hoax? Why?

If you do not believe, how do explain the presense of extra people in pictures taken with both film and digital cameras?

For those that believe in hauntings, how could spirits for lack of a better term be seen in pictures but not with the eye, when the person taking the picture was framing the shot or shots?.

I actually beleive that the main reason why the spirits show up on pictures is cause the picture itself takes a second to freeze in time what it can capture and the eyes will not.

How many times we sawa picture that is more birlliant then what we saw originally with our eyes.
The picture allow the spirits to be captureas we do not always have time to view what the lense can catch

I do believe in ghosts, and I say this because of personal experience. As for the haunted plantation, I believe it is haunted since I have hear so many stories about it.

Yes I do believe in hauntings. I have heard this story before. The woman tortured the slaves. She kept some of them locked in a small room in the attic. they had been in there so long they were feeding on dead corpses. She also took a little boy and put him in a glass box. He remained in there for years and by the time he hit puberty he was permanently deformed because his bones grew in and out of place. I can't remember her name and it's killing me! But she did a lot of really sick sh*t!!! They made a film about it titled "The Saint Francisville Experiment."

First off yes i believe in ghosts and haunted places.
Why because i have actually seen my cousin's grandma who was dead a year prior and no i was not the only one that witnessed this.

Yes i believe that the plantation is haunted my family lived in Louisiana during summers with our dad when he was working there and have heard of it all our lives.
Another reason i believe is two old college friends of my oldest sister have been there and told us they did see some things that made the hair on the back of their neck stand up.

I have no idea how they could show up in pictures as i am not a photographer but i do believe it is possible.

I do believe that their are things yet unexplained, like ghost spirits, And i think they remain in a place that they are bound to either by death or natural surroundings of what is been in their life. Yet for proof nothing yet solid but many pictures have captured something, but left to science it is specks on the lens. yes i do believe llike this plantation many places hold spirits of years past.

I heard of that place The Scarest Places On Earth did a episode on it.They didn't mention about the slaves nor about the little boy in the glass box.I do beleave It is hanted by saddenss and anger and earth bound traped spirits but the more people vistit the more energy it collects and possable the more mass hysteria becomes real.I think it needs not to be angerd any more the house it self is alive.

I wanted to go by the Myrtles so badly when we were coming back from New Orleans for the Rave meet. But it was out of our way and we wanted to go home. But man, I wanted to go.

I read on a site that it's pretty hyped up. But I saw the place on Ghost Hunters and they caught stuff on camera, evps, etc., and said it was haunted. So, it was enough to make me "jones" to want to go. *sigh*

The camera picks up things that our naked eye can't. It's a known fact, and it's not all dust. I have done many experiments with the camera to try the theories out.

A test to try this, is to look at your TV remote, at the end, where the red light goes off when you change the channel. Point your camera at it and press the button, and you can see the light through the camera, but not the naked eye. It worked on mine. It was cool. See? Just goes to show that the camera works in different ways and can pick up the ghosts when we can't.

My oldest daughter and I stayed in the bed and breakfast and took the tour. We met others who had been there before and had experiences. Allie and I had a door that we kept closing and it kept opening again. It led to a small, stained attic closet. Putting the rocking chair in front of it did stop the problem, though.

Allie was very scared, but the night progressed without incident. Before that, though, when we were outside and it became dark, we walked around the grounds. No matter how badly I hoped to see or experience something, I just didn't until one spot near the house. I was taking pictures beside a small bush. The night was balmy as you'd expect for a Louisiana night, then suddenly, it became impossibly icy cold. A few steps away and it was warm...back to the bush and I was cold again. I checked around it and saw nothing. I felt nothing other than cold...no presence.

In the morning, we all shared stories and there were none. Even the repeat visitors sadly acknowledged that this time, they had no experiences. My daughter and I were intrigued enough that we do plan to go back again. The staff was very nice and the maid was cool. She shared with me a few things she'd experienced that she couldn't explain about the room we stayed in. I was mesmerized.

As to the history of the place, I agree...it's probably been embellished, but there was no slave torturing, attic thing, corpse-eating, or boy in a glass box. That is not even associated with the place. Its story basically is a slave who eavesdropped on her master, had her ear cut off as a punishment and then killed the family by poison by baking a cake with oleander leaves in it. There is debate about whether she did so on purpose or not. To save themselves from being punished, the slaves hanged her from a tree when they discovered what she'd done.

We're hoping to go back in late October next year :)

I live in louisiana as well, however I have not had a chance to stay over night, as others have. I did a tour once, and nothing happened for us. The place felt haunted however none came out to play.

I do believe in ghost / spirits because I have had first hand experience with them LOL and I have always wanted to visit the plantation to see if I feel or see any of the deceased presence there.

However there are people who do hoaxes which is sad since there are legitamate places out there that do have some dead lurking around because maybe they had unfinished business or just refuse to move on .. just an opinion is all.

dont know if the place is haunted, but i know that ghosts exist as my old home was haunted, and things were seen by a number of folks (including the cable guy and a plumber).
im waiting for the hard core sceptics to drop a line here telling us all that it goes against science or some such...but science doesnt know all things yet.
prolly never will.
