''The self-segmenter can lengthen her thread-like tongue to reach a victim sleeping on the floor while she crouches on the roof. Her favorite dish is in the womb, and the phlegm which tuberculars and asthmatics spit out. But the most striking trait of this creature is her ability to discard her lower members-from shoulders down; from hips down and from knees down. She leaves her discarded lower body in a closet, in the backyard, or, right in her bed. In the last case she quietly pulls the sheet tight over her pillow at the other so that the gap in-between does not show she is not home.
The self-segmenter alights on the roof and insinuates her tongue through the shingles. The tongue enters one of the ten bodily openings of the sleeping victims- eyes, nostrils, ears, mouth, navel, anus or genitals If the victim is awake, she spins out her tongue to the fineness of a spider thread and floats it on the air while waiting for him to go to sleep.
A self-segmenter comes to her monstrous state after swallowing a mysterious black chick, which emerges from the throat of another self-segmenter who is too old to go out on raids. A self-segmenter cannot die until someone takes her office. She craves for viscera hen fledgling, said to be lodged in her stomach, begins cheeping. The chick can be expelled by the creature herself being fumigated while lashed upside down to a tree. Or she may be seated on a swing and the ropes twirl around till she gets dizzy and throws up the monstrous bird. The evil chick then should be caught in a fire blazing underneath.''
Taken from here.
How do you view this creature?
How do you think that this legend came to be?
If these things exist, what do you think could be done to ward them off?
Have you ever known someone who's had such an encounter?
This creature makes me shudder..
and want to have all of my orifices sewed shut.
Couldn't you perhaps at least hinder her by damaging the segments of her..sort of like destroying her piece by piece?
It's possible that would work. Although ... it just might hinder her for a while if she's able to regrow it, don't you think?
Probably.
Look at worms that are chopped in half. They regenerate. So do lizards that have their tails disconnected.
That makes it easier to believe.
Although ... I think that would make it [if it came around again] more agitated.
It just seems like it would be worth the effort to attempt it considering that the other option is to hang her upside down from a tree over an open fire and search for a black chick.
True ... it might even make her not wishing to come back for you.
I'd be willing to try both methods to keep her out of my orifices.
There's always a more permanent, completely destroy and annihilate method.
Yes, that's always an option.
It would be better to find a way to examine one though to see if we could come up with a medical way to conquer it.
Indeed it would. The hard part, though, would be capturing one.
It can't be any harder than hanging her upside down and strapping her to a tree and lighting her chick on fire;)
ok i interpret this creature a an old wise tale told during the time of the plagues. many people were mucusy so to speak and many children may not have understood death and the symptoms of the disease and this was an easy way of explaining what was going on. make sense to me though i could be way off my rocker on this one.
Oh, she is so gross...LOL! I've heard of a variation of this being from another kid while in gradeschool - who happened to have come from the Phillipines. I thought that she was just making it all up. Now I know that this is an actual legend from the islands. Cool...and gross!
It's nasty dirty gross.
I think I'm going to break my own rule and suggest that this one is in no way possible because I don't want to believe in it:P
I like this enigmatic creature which thrives on human effluvia: it's a green resource, a phlegm and menses recycler. Every household should have one. Obviously, the creators of this phantasm were thinking the same thing.
Haha..ew.
I need to start spreading my own about a heinous beast that breaks into homes and cooks dinner, lights candles, does dishes, laundry, vacuuming, and runs a bath...and then leaves.
:)
