What movie do you all think is the closest to the truth about vampires.
I mean is the story behind Blade possible, or can the stories of Anne Rice be the truth.
Respond away
queen of the damned......akasha's movements were very well done, the history was pretty good.
also, interview with a vampire, and so many more i cant remember right now. ill post as i remember them =)
I agree. Anne Rice does good research before she writes her books. But who knows what the real truth about the origin of vampires is.
oh forgot to mention that anime is included in this also.
there's the directory stuff... obviously the top rated stuff will be the closest since it's rated by people who know their stuff...
just a thought :)
i'm not sure but i can say anymovie where vampires are scared by the site of a wooden cross, or hurt by holy water you can count out..
I believe the truth to vampires has only more closely been written and has yet to be seen upon screen. There is and always will be a vast assortment of myths and accounts associated with Vampires. Different cultures around the world have constructed different sights and beliefs toward Vampires and so the variability of these legends is quite extensive. And until a film can capture and summarize and place upon screen all to most ancient beliefs, events over several centuries no film ever will be close to attaining what vampires sincerely are. The film industries only believe the misruled conceptions of popular books not true accounts and actual facts.
In my opinion perhaps the question of what film was best adapted based upon vampire myth should be considered and to I that would be “Interview with a vampire” and “Bram Stokers Dracula”
Ive always seen the story behind the Forsaken to be realitivly believable but not exact
Thanx guys for all these resposes. So far the movie"Interview with a Vampire" has been the most listed. so keep the posts coming
Thanx
...Lumley's idea that vampirism is caused by an external entity (ie. parasite) is closest imho. in truth, i feel that "based-on-fact" folklore/mythology of vampirism is that it was brought about by a disease or violation of the human body by a "bug" or germ or whatever. i feel that Brian Lumley's ideas are really close.
i agree with all the interview with the vampire people saying its the closest to the truth.
...ooops...i just realized that this is about movie vamps and not book ones.
...from the movies...hrmms...i like the "Underworld" concept.
These posts are really good.... and the whole book thing.... Well im going to allow books to also be in this discussion, since most of the Vamp movies were originally books in the first place.
I SAY DRACULA JUST BECAUSE U CAN TRACE HIM BACK IN HISTORY AND THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING TO STOKERS STORY RIGHT
I htought the Blade Trinity film was stupid... it was entertaining but I couldn't believe it for a second.
I would have to say maybe blade did have a point and biologicly speaking the theory is sound (I haven't seen B3 yet though but DON't tell me anythin about the film please)
Queen of the Damned.. i agree with the poster who posted about Akasha's movements.. When my sister chooses to Enthrall, thats basically her movements as well..
I have yet to see Interview With the Vampire, although i want to.
I think that Interview with a Vampire is.. I even got my mom to watch it one day and she doesn't like vampire movies.. and even she liked it.. I have always loved that movie. Not because of the actors that are in it persay. but what the represnt. I have loved this movie for sometime. I went and got the dvd and I watch it atleast once a month...
Queen of the dammed ruled. Go Lestat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i too agree...queen of the damned was far close than all the other movies. the spoken language, the history, the feeling, the darkness, the romance, the walking, the appearance.
very well done...very well done
Queen of the damned. Hell yeh that movie kicked ass. But what was odd was the fact it was nothing like the book?
I think that vampire movies in general cover the aesthetics pretty well...at least in the one's I've seen. As far as being the full truth about vampires...I'm afraid holywood is still caught up with the cliches like turnign to dust when the sun rises, being afraid of holy water, being afraid of a wooden stake, the siring of vampires (irl vampires can't be made they are awakened...a person is either born one or isn't...though admittedly one going through the awakening process may seem like they are being turned), and the way vampires "feed" (yes its true vampires drink blood but not all drink blood and they don't derive the blood through biting the neck..its through safely guarded feeding circles/ rituals)
Hard to say, but I would have to go with the Bram Stoker version. At least the re-make with Gary Oldman, it is very believable that Vlad was cursed to be immortal for disgracing the chatholic church. Besides Vlad the Impaler can be traced back. Just my 2 cents worth.
Besides the cheesyness of it all Dracula 2000 had a very interesting, or should i say different veiw of the vampire myth, of course anne rice is gonna throw shit out there with so much feeling the story melts in your thoughts so it seems possibly the most realistic?
I think that "Interview with a Vampire" has my vote for the romaticism that was in it. It made things seem more passionate. But "UnderWorld" held my opinion about vampirism being a genetic mutation. A natural turn of events in our bloodline. Everything in us changes in one way or another and I think that vampirism is one of those changes that can happen. So, as for me, there are two movies that I think came real close.
vlad was really close to the story of him if u want historically acurate
first of all though, I liked the movie, QotD bastardized Anne Rices books, in my opinion. Underworld was interesting in its combination of science and mythology. Interview and QotD don't really talk to the origin, thats in the book with maharets story. I remember there was a movie, Dracula 2000 was it?, where the first vampire was judas, lending to the fear of crosses thing and a mystical origin. The existence of actual vampiric creatures (in a blood drinking sense) i.e. vampire bats, leaches, mosquitos, leans to a more scientific/viral/biological vampire. I like the idea of a biological "born" vampire, but what can I say in the end I am a hopeless romantic and love the notion of being bitten, exchanging blood and being turned. Though I though the Dracula with Gary Oldman too sachrine for my tastes, with the reincarnated love story and all. So I guess I go with the Anne Rice's and underworld for my origin picks. The nature of a vamp, thats another story.
i think there may be some truth in braum stokers and salems lot and who can forget dracula and interview w/the vampire.
As a book does little justice to life
A movie does little justice to a book
Therefor how can a movie even come close to life?
While it was a fairly average movie, I will have to say that Vampire Clan gets my vote for a movie that comes closest to "real vampires".
In this case, Vampire Clan was a TV movie based on the book, The Embrace by Aphrodite Jones. The book, and movie, tells the story of 16-year old Rod Ferrell.
In 1996, he led a group of teenagers on a trip from Kentucky to New Orleans. He was clearly a blood fetishist, but he claimed he was a supernatural vampire. He had convinced his friends Dana Cooper, Charity Keesee, and Scott Anderson, that he was a vampire and would grant them immortality once they arrived in New Orleans. The foursome claimed to have shared blood often and called themselves the Vampire Clan.
On the way, Rod decided to include Heather Wendorf, a former girlfriend, on their stop in Florida. While he told her they would all go to New Orleans together, what he really wanted was an extra vehicle. Believing himself to be immortal, he also believed he was above the law. Heather met Dana and Charity outside her home, convinced she was running away to a new life with Rod. After she left, Rod and Scott broke into Heather's parents home with the intention of stealing their vehicle.
The duo broke in to the house, and found the car, but needed the keys. Rod convinced Scott that they needed to kill Heather's parents in order to get away with stealing the car. They would consume their blood in order to be ready for the final leg of their trip.
They found the father sleeping on the couch and the mother upstairs. According to them, Rod told Scott to handle the mother while he took care of the father. Using a tire iron that he took from their garage, Rod beat the father to death, and continued beating until he was hardly recognizable; nothing but a bloody mess. Scott went upstairs but did not disturb the mother. Instead he came back down to find what Rod had done. The mother also came downstairs, and when she did, she too was beaten by Rod.
This story made headlines not only because of the brutality involved, but because of the fact that Rod claimed that he and his accomplices were vampires. Were they vampires, or just deluded teens led by a charismatic psychopath? I've read the book and watched the movie, and read some of the testimony. All I know for sure is, the movie is probably the closest you'll get to seeing a real blood-fetishest gone wrong. It is a good reason for the real vampires out there to always be vigilant of what they do.
When it comes to stuff like this I would say Darkness and ElderDaniel have the best responses!
I don't think any of them are accurate. I still don't see a movie with the story of Lilith and all that vamp bible stuff. lol
Everyone have their own vision about vampires.
Mine is close (not the same but close) to Annes writtings..
So I should say 'Interview with the Vampire'.
'Queen of the Damned' (book) is awesome, but movie.... I was so disappointed in it...
And Blade stuff..... Badly suck
queen of the damned WAS nothing like the book
the book was more exciting and more actioness and much more info
in the movie, they hardly put any info. plus magnus made lestat not marius and they didnt mention mekare...
but, it was good for the roles, darkness, and somewhat on lestats life
i loved the movie...and the book
I just have to say I want to see more girl vamps in movies. Underworld was a good change!!!!!!
