I picked up the book today because my ex owns this book. I didn't know what it was, so I started reading it. Has anyone else heard of or read this book?

Do you believe it to be true or false?

If anyone has any additional information, I would be glad if you shared it.

The book of nod was put out by whitewolf, as supposed to be "cains" law ruling vampires. Its a part of the vamp the masquerade lore series.

LMFAO! Okay I am a dork....here is a brief description....

The Book of Nod is a fictional book in White Wolf Game Studio's role-playing setting, World of Darkness. It tells the creation myth of vampires, the story of the curse of Caine, his exile in the Land of Nod, and his words to his descendants, as well as prophecies covering the eventual fate of the vampire race.

A Book of Nod was actually printed for use as a prop in the game and for inspiration for story-tellers.

Though, could this still be true? It's the first time I have ever heard of anything like this? Thoughts or evidence? Please share.

If someone accepts this as fact, it would have something in common with the necronomican. Another book of fiction thought to be true.

There was a city named UR, there was a great flood that destroied the first city. This truth is found in sumerian history.

Anything else, is history bent to the perspectives what if civilization was created by a vampire to have the human race act as its thrall....

but then again, look at the last 2000 years of christian mythos.

What we take for fact vs fiction, might see itself played out differently in the eyes of history.

whatever did happen to Cain though? Growing up and reading the Bible, yeah you know what happened....If it said in the Bible, then I forget. lol Been a long time.

It was just very interesting this book, it's a book that makes you think. I have been thinking a lot lately.

The other day I was talking with my best friend and he was explaining things that could very well alter my whole belief system and what "God" truly may be, as well as the Bible.

I think there was a mention of the first Vampire or something here in the forum, can someone direct me to that thread please?

according to the book of nod, after caine was banished, he was taken in by lillith and taught him the secrets to his curse, he then stole a book of magick and learned how to use blood magick, and the disciplines in his blood.

The whole bible tie-in thing is very popular in fiction.

Especially when an ancient background is needed.

The Book of Nod is no longer in print as far as I know. There are a lot of VtM publications, I think the Nod book was originally published in the 90s. It was one of the first of the VtM series and makes a good foundation for the game. But it is fiction.

exactly, and the thing with the world of darkness stuff, from mage, to vampire, werewolf, changeling, demon the fallen and wraith, to the new requiem lore....its all exqusite fabrications on history, because they use real history, and just tweak bits of it to make it suit their mythos system. which is one reason those games can be a great training tool, as well as good ol fashion fun :D

nope....according to the rest o the whitewolf mythos the book of nod was written in human blood on human flesh.

i remember something about a bible of something similiar in the first blade movie....other then that, it is what it is....soild fatasy, with nothing really useful except a history lesson in a fantasy game.

the bible says that after he was forced to leave home, he went into the land of nod, took a wife (who? thought there was only mom and dad left in the whole world!), and built a city (damn...that boy worked fast! didnt just build a house, but a city!). the actual passage runs thusly:
genesis 16: Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, [6] east of Eden.

17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 Lamech said to his wives:

“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say:
I have killed a man for wounding me,
a young man for striking me.
24 If Cain's revenge is sevenfold,
then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold.”

so, read into this what you wish, but thats all thats mentioned of him in the bible.

Many many roads this thread will follow. The differant views from the masses in interpretation as like with the whole "bible" scenerio.

The book of not is an interesting read, but so is the bible, the book of Enoch, as well as several other pieces of material I would rather not mention here.

But, one thing is to be considered...Whether or not one would be believe out of possible naivety that any book of historical value brought on by unmentioned authors could be true, but would be all out fantasy for the audiences perceptive mind on what they would like to be true in their own way.

Some of what is in the book of Nod is true, references regarding certain aspects of history...Thus the thin boundary WhiteWolf took liberty into basing their game of VtM on. With a dash of their own Roleplay perspective.

Certainly one may consider aside from the Roleplay perspective that if they did their research, they would come to terms with the added historical content aside from the roleplayers manual of what the book actually represents.

White Wolf did one hell of a job with the whole VtM thing if they could confuse the living hell out of the worlds population.

As for Cain, it is just a story. There really is no proof that such an individual ever existed. No lilitu, no Cain, no graves or bones for that matter for material evidence to elude to any of the stories historical value.

It is the same aspect with the bible, but I will not tarry down that path for obvious reasons.

Well done White Wolf!

being something of a folklorist im not so quick to decide that because we dont know of the location of someones grave, that they never existed. we have never found the location of the grave of alexander the great, but we are certain of his existance. this is certainly an extreme example, but it illustrates my point.
i for one am at least open to the possiblity of the existance of cain...as well as that of marduk, agamemnon, and even sigurd dragon slayer for that matter.
i would however also love to know the other sources that you refer to. if you are uncomfortable posting to the forum, id welcome a message with that info.
thanks!

the reason white wolf has been so effective in fooling people, is they use large amounts of truth, and documented history in their games, and only very slightly twist it to suit their ends....
the best lies always have a core of truth

Like a lot of books based on true events you would fine a small part true things like places, names etc. However to make the book sell the author would make a large part up. Thats my belief anyway.

The thing is, is that movies with their concepts, gaming books or whathaveyou, do have pieces of truth thrown in with their fictitious counterparts. This is what makes things both fascinating and interesting. The challenge to discern the real from the fantasy.

If a movie, book or game does not make the individual think, then what fun would it be? Trying to discern between which reality is real...That is the fun of it all is it not?

I know of this book I have read parts of it it tells of kain and how her became the first vampire. How God turned him into what he is gust for the fact that he could not except his forgiveness for killing his brother Able.

God sent meny angles to tell him of his forgiveness and even spoke to him himself. When Kain still refused it angered him so he placed a curse on him that all his bread would turn to ash and all his wine to blood. and sent him to the land of NOD never to return.
