I've been reading the poasts in the forums and I think if they made it more of a socratic seminar..... we wouldn't have to hear repeats, and a bit of small attacks to what other's are saying.

Do you agree that we need to change the forum to be more of a socratic seminar?Definition:
Socratic Seminars are a highly motivating form of intellectual and scholarly discourse They usually range from 30-50 minutes--longer if time allows. Socratic Seminars foster active learning as participants explore and evaluate the ideas, issues, and values in a particular text. An effective seminar consists of four interdependent elements: (1) the text being considered, (2) the questions raised, (3) the seminar leader, and (4) the participants.

I think, in theory, it would be a good idea but that would only put more work on the shoulders of the Dominars and take away from the spirit of free exchange (even if that exchange is lacking in integrity or reason).

As a thread I would like to check it out, it will stimulate research, and encourage people to read the thread.

I can see all your responces and there are no reapeates. . And If it's a new box literally like a new discussion bored that could be about IE okay when obama became president a disscussion about it. But for a vampyric topic. Like whats going on with the subculture. Is there a new wave after the realease of twilight that now vampyres are more exsepted... Ie socratic questions promote a higher leval thinking
Based on this...

I think the idea is good on the surface. But in actual practice I find that the more you regulate a forum, the less productive they tend to be. The next thing you know anything you post that someone else doesn't like is reported and removed under the guise of one or more overly-misused rules.

Sometimes repetition isn't a bad thing. People often don't really click the first time they hear something. It kind of goes in one ear and out the other. But eventually, they'll find they think they have a strong point but this one repeated statement -- fully demonstrable and irrefutable -- is sitting right in their way. This is when critical thought is most likely to take place.

Critical thought is pretty much a lost art in most societies. People pick a group, learn the dogmas and doctrines and go forth with little critical assessment of any of the things they've adopted. Take sex and children as an example. I'm not one to suggest that children should be pressed into sexual situations before they're mature enough to understand it. I'm certainly not someone who suggests anyone should ever be "pressed" into any kind of introduction to sex. But this idea people have that seeing nudity, sexuality or public displays of affection is somehow going to harm children is a classic example of thoughtless acceptance of inane propaganda. If one applies a bit of critical thought, they start to realize that in some cultures it's not unusual to find a 16-year old girl with two children of her own. In such cultures, it's perfectly acceptable and does nothing to wound or psychologically harm them.

The next step is to figure out why some 16-year old people (because they are people), seem to be highly damaged by sexual activity from an earlier than commonly-acceptable age. And the answer is simple -- it's the reaction of their society, not the sexual activity itself.

Of course that requires thought as well as a deviation from the common, mindless acceptance of whatever society offers. So most people will never think that out for themselves and most will soundly reject it -- not because it doesn't make sense -- but simply because it's not he main-stream majority opinion. Actually, it's more than an opinion. It's a rational, demonstrable concept.

So as much as it can be tiring to read the same comments over and over, it does happen from both sides on every issue and only a few will ever connect with the validity of such repeated statements (when they're valid). But without the repetition, it will be hand-waved once, and never be offered any level of rational consideration.

if the socratic exchange were in chat form, then we might miss information that we considered valuable if we werent able to be by our keyboard at the moment it occured.
as to repeating information, i actually appreciate that as i dont read every thread, and im still a realitive newby and feel i can learn much from repeated info.
this is only my zwei pfennig however.

sounds alot like our business seminars and the only thing taught is what the teacher wants you too know, not the extra veiws of others in the field. so it does seem one sided to me.

These are all good points. I would say at least the repeats do allow those who don't read everything to get the basic idea.
