I can not remember which it was I tried researching this phenomina and came up empty...so I would like to ask the vampirerave comunity for thier help ... if you heard of it ....know what it is actually called it would be most helpful thank you.

Apparently they were called optograms, and I'm sorry that this seems to be the trend, lol, but apparently they're entirely fictional.

Optograms are common in fiction, but the only source I could find with any bit of information about it is Optograms and Fiction. The commentary seems to imply that optograms aren't real, as the eye doesn't work in such a way that would allow them.

I’m not entirely sure on 100% of the details but I agree this is probably a fictional phenomenon as sight is perceived at the back of the brain in the occipital lobe and not on the surface of the retina.

As I understand it, the idea stemmed from an early idea of how the eye worked, when people thought the retina worked like a color plate in a camera, capturing light like a video film, frame by frame. The thought was that when a person died, the last frame that their retina recorded would remain like a photograph.

Who knows, mayhaps in the future of 2000, new technologies may turn the concept into nonfiction. Hell, the Prophesy movies with Christopher Walken used the technique all the time when the Angels needed clues as to where their counter parts had escaped to in certain scenes.

(Extra post from previous)

Something else, the method was also used in Will Smith's Wild Wild West. They even went so far to put a flash light through the deceased's head to gain a clear picture...After putting the mans glasses back on.

Then it reminds me...The physical way was in Wild Wild West with the flash light, the mental way was by clairvoyance or something to that extent using the Angels tongue on the retna itself in the Prophecy movies.

Unfortunately, that's not possible. No matter how good your technology, the eye simply doesn't work like that. Unless you stare at an INCREDIBLY intense light (like the sun, through an unfiltered telescope), then images don't imprint on our retinas.

ok a little off topic and may be a good one for a thread i remember seeing an old B movie where some people were burried near a tree and the peoples faces appeared in the bark as the tree grew its roots were actually twisted and tangled into the bodys ...how ever i vaguely remember reading something about something simular and wonder if that is even a possability?

then another movie where a woman sat in front of the window all the time after she died people could still see her it was said that the sun light burnt her image into the window and i believe if iam not mistaken that is a factual thing that can happen

Faces appearing in the bark of a tree whose roots have grown into and around bodies buried beneath doesn't sound plausible in the least bit. Trees, as with all living things, absorb nutrients and grow based on their genetic structure. Developing a face in a tree's bark would be like a person eating beef and having a cow's face appear on their skin (not exactly comparable, but close enough).

As for the window phenomenon, I had to do a bit of research first. It would initially seem at least possible that an image could be burned onto glass after incredibly prolonged exposure, because light is reflected off the person's face (in this particular scenario) and onto the glass, but I was never able to find a property of glass that allowed images to be fixed into a window pane once it's been set and cooled. Think about glasses for a minute. A person who wears glasses all their life undergoes the same process as the person who sits in front of their window all the time. If the glass were capable of holding an image after any amount of exposure, then the glasses would hold an image of the eyes of the person who wore them. I'm not positive on this one, but it would seem reasonable that glass would be used for windows because it isn't affected by light (in the sense of permanent after-effects).

It seems more likely that people had gotten so used to seeing the woman sitting by the window, that when she wasn't there anymore, people's minds would trick them into seeing her there as usual.

lol very good points on those subjects makes perfect sence to me ... however with the analagy you gave with the glasses and the persons eyes ...the only explanation to tare that idea apart would be the fact most glasses have a curve to them so the light is distributed differantly then a flat pane of glass...as i always say thoe i dont have all the answers and iam not always right ...i do buy the idea of people being used to seeing a woman sitting there day in and out so they almost expect to see her regaurdless the mind has that image filed so very easyly could play tricks and see someone thats not there :)

The glasses analogy is still relevant because the light is not refracted in different directions, but merely focuses the direction and intensity of the light that hits it.

Another thing came to me when I thought about it more. The sun moves across the sky (relative to us), and so the light from it reflects off a face in different directions as the day progresses. Also, it's VERY unlikely that the woman sat in exactly the same spot every day, and so the image of her face would be reflecting in a different direction every moment of every day. The inconsistency in exposure wouldn't allow for a fixed image to be imprinted on the glass, if indeed it were possible for light to be imprinted onto clear glass in the first place.

Think of it like this then. Do you know anyone who keeps a plant or flowers by the window? Many people do. Well, that plant sits stationary all day, every day, in front of the window, and when it is moved, sometimes months or years later, there is no image of the plant on the window.

I've come to the personal conclusion that this is also impossible, but by all means, someone feel free to show me where I'm wrong if I've made a mistake.

Seems like many movie themes are going on here. retna keep the last impression before death, huh sounds like wild west, faces in trees alot of old scary movies unnamble hp lovecraft and such.

Not plasable on all accounts, yet we never realize the brain is the storage of life and all its wonders. maybe tapping inot this later would give the info.

I think that would be true that the last thing you see would be an imprint, if one believes it really matters after death, if it does or not.

We've already established that the last thing you see before you die DOESN'T get imprinted on your retina. The eye doesn't work that way.

lol. Sherlock Holmes had phenomenal deductive reasoning, but apparently his knowledge of human anatomy wasn't quite so keen...

seen the same movie it was a good one.

I do not see how the last thing you see would not be an imprint to your retina and brain as an equal yet, that is just my opinion.

Well I think the problem is that when light is projected on to the retina it is not reflected back or held in some way, like the film in a camera. However I did find this article which I thought was very interesting:

*I apologise if the link I tried to make doesn’t work I’m not very good at html stuff*

"i also heard that the last color that you see will be your favorite in the next carnation"

How would one even test this? Most people who claim to remember their past lives certainly don't remember the instant of their deaths enough times to even come to this conclusion. It sounds like blind speculation, and a bad job of it at that. Does anyone else actually question statements like this?

What lies after death we do not know and it is speculation on sight and what lies beyond. The eyes after death given to donors donot recall the memories of live, this infact would lie within the mind and its unknown storage.

Hollywood has now taken another aspect of death to fill their pockets and create an illusion to all.

The alleged author of Sherlock Holmes also fell for mediums, and even a childs fabricated fairy picture. I am more a Puddin' Head Wilson fan. At least the authors consistent, that story has a different take on Imprints all together.
