What should a Goth Society Host consider when preparing an event], or gathering.
What can be expected of guest?
hmmm...when hosting, having a good variety of music. decor might be something to consider, but definatly the music.
when going to such a suare', (depending on the age group) bringing wine...or a cd. for me, i just attend...oh...dont hit on the drunk chick! LOL

if this is specifically a "goth party" or whathave you (like a themed party), then you might want to encourage dressing the part, both for the host and the attendees. also, yes, taking the extra care to deck the place out appropriately is a nice touch to add to the ambiance (assuming that how you normally decorate is not all that gothy, but even if it is, maybe lighting some candles, throwing out an extra decorative piece here and there, etc).
and yes, i'm a big stickler that parties always have the proper "soundtrack" going on at just the right background volume, just loud enough for some enjoyment and to make awkward silences less awkward, but also quiet enough to encourage discussion. i suppose the "type" of goth music would also depend on what sort of goth types (re: dress) would be attending, I.E. Rasputina and Voltaire for period goths and Skinny Puppy and Combichrist perhaps for a more fettishy crowd.
also, if there shall be the drinking of the alcohol, most goths go for the Absinthe, and even if they never tried it, a goth party is the perfect time to experiment. red wines work, too (in keeping with the whole "vampire" simile to goth or whatever).
If you want to show movies (many of my parties usually involve movie watching just because we all like movies), consider some old silent classics won't you? german expressionism goes extremely well in a goth setting, also, you can keep on your music if you want and people not interested can keep talking with out the viewers being too distracted from the film, what with it being silent and all.
soooooo, are you actually throwing a party and looking for ideas or just curious?
well it seems LordWolf and Rosenrot78 have given you ideas or themes for your party Dabbler which hits things right on the head.
maybe consider depection of goth, black or vampire or even certain time era tendiecies that will always play a part. Dress the part, food and live music to say the least. many new bands are looking to play at these.
Theme , music, movies it sounds like a great party, Hope I am invited. *Looks in closet at all the Black suits*"don't know if I have anything to wear"
Then there is the assessment, and moderation of conflict in guest, i find the
Neutral ground rule works best, if two guest have "beef" then that is mute in the current location, too many gatherings I have seen desolve over a guest using Social Rank to leverage a personal grudge. Some consideration should be taken to insure a conflict free, environment.
Parties that encourage competition of some sort will break ice in idle gatherings.
What competative ideas have you seen at Gatherings.
very good rosenrot, absinthe and nosferatu.....a good mix (or cabinet of dr. caligari if youd like a non vamp theme).

i'm not sure whether or not it would qualify as "competition," but a fairly popular game among the goth set is sort of a role play game called "werewolves," wherein the players all sit around a table and various identities on cards are handed to each person. you do not reveal which identity you received to the other players. at various intervals, everyone must close their eyes except for those who received the werewolf cards who then "kill" another player during this "night" time. the others have to figure out who the werewolves are before too many of them die. or summat. that's the abbreviated version.
also, have you heard of "GOTH, the trivia game"? it's basically trivial pursuit with all goth-type categories and question, ranging from film and music to historical, mythical and alchemy. first player to get thirteen tombstones wins!
Thank you Rosnrot.. I will go see if that is in the Data Base, I wonder how members of Vampire Rave would rate playing Gothic Trivia Pursuit, I would like to attend that cruise.
