Who has heard of this legand?

a breif on it in a small french town of Gévaudan was plauged for a while with a beast that killed over 100 woman and children.

no one knows for sure what it was there are many theory's on this

it was a lion in armor ( taken from the brother hood of the wolf )

it was a hynea trained

a wolf

a wolf man

or the catholic church hired a man to kill many wolfs and make them into one to scare the people back into religion, and killed the people them selfs

what are your thoughts or ideas on what could have happened?

Beast of Gévaudan

This creature was reported being as big as a large calf or young cow, it was covered with a fur that was reddish, the head was big and wolf-like, and more brown than the rest of the body, the jaws are always gaping, the ears are short and straight, the chest white and very broad, the tail very long and thick, the tip white, the back paws very big and long, according to some having hooves like a horse, those of the front were shorter and covered with a long fur, having six claws to each paw.

Once when the creature was sighted crossing a river, it raised itself on its hind legs and waded over like a human being. Furthermore it was very agile and extremely strong. It was sometimes sighted in locations very far apart on the same day. When hunting it crawled almost with its belly to the ground. One shepherd claimed it could stand up on its rear legs and was strong enough to lift a fullgrown sheep with its arms. Dogs fled in terror from it as most other animals.

One odd fact worth noting, is that some measurements of distances between footprints showed the creature could make leaps of over 28 feet on level ground, when running.

Here are some
Interesting Sighting Details:

There were two mysterious cases reported during the times of the creatures attacks. Three women were going to church near the wood of Favart, when a dark man offered to escort them through the woods. They refused and before leaving he touched one of them with a fur-covered hand. Soldiers arriving on the scene just after the incident warned the terrified women not to go into the woods, because the creature had just been seen there.

Two women of Escures also on the way to church had a similar experience in an area where, unknown to them, the creature had just been seen by several people. This time they saw that the man accosting them was covered in fur only when his shirt blew open in the wind. It was said at the time the creature was called an instrument of the Devil, and besides killing, was trying to stop people from going to Mass. .

One can certanily see the spirtual connection to the beast if we are to believe the stories of the meetings that occurred between the women and the strange man, who had fur covering him. Since spirtual creatures can assume any form, it would of been nothing to change from the wolf-life beast into the form of something humans would of not found so scary, only to change back into the beast once inside the dark woods.

One reason the creature would of done this is the following. I have read numerous times when there has been a ghost, demon or other spirtual attack and even a visualization.

The creatures draw energy off their victims or those near them. The women would of became frightened easily once inside the dark woods, espicaly when they would of noticed the man was covered with fur, etc. Once they became scared and released their psychic energy given off in fear. The creature would of gotten some badly needed energy, to change and keep it's varied forms more easily.

Just some extra info on it for everyone.

This is the first time i've heard of Beast of Gevaudan but anything could have happened in this case. It does sound very interesting though.

It could have been a bear that caused or something of the same size. Until proven there will only be speculations, ideas of what happened and other different theories.

Interesting story,

www.newanimal.org/beastgev.htm

www.occultopedia.com/g/gevaudan.htm

From what I have read I can only presume that there were more than one animal. Just exactly what these animals were...I am at the moment unable to draw a conclusion.

Ah, others have heard about, La Bête du Gévaudan...
In an old book i have, it says that it was what we would call a were-wolf. Apart from being able to transform back and forth. Others believe it was a 5' long wolf(quite large for any wolves) and was shot and killed by Jean Chastel. He repotedly shot it with a specially crafted "silver bullet" of his own design. Also its said he was reading his bible and praying when he seen it. The wolf sat and waited for him to finish, then he shot the beast. The body was sent to Versailles. And the most thesible to me is the show On the History Channel, criminal profiler, George Deuchar and cryptozoologist, Ken Gerhardt, investigate the beast of Gevaudan on the television show, The Real Wolfman. They travel around France and with the information they find, they believe the beast was a striped hyena and was trained and killed by the alleged hero, Jean Chastelme.

I must say that this is the first time I have ever heard about this tale..

I wouldn't be surprised if the church had something to do with it to get people back into church...

But on the other hand I hesitate to say the supernatural.. It could have just been an animal...

Honestly I would have to look into it more before I would be willing to toss a true theory into the ring...

But the tale does sound quite interesting...
