Alright, I think this thread will serve a purpose. Hopefully we can get some Dominars and Administrators in here to give us their personal views on this subject, as well as everyone else.

The VR manual has this to say about the “General Discussion” section: “Threads about Vampires, Vampire Rave, or interesting parallel subjects.” It then goes on to mention: “If you do not post your thread to the correct category, it may be moved, closed, or deleted depending upon the mood of the Dominar or Administrator.”

Yet there is no definition offered for what will constitute a “parallel subject.” Just earlier I saw a dominar move a thread, only to have it moved back by an administrator. This seems to happen most often with religious/spiritual/occult issues. Some Doms seem to think that this is appropriate subject matter for General Discussion, and others do not.

This makes me very reluctant to post anything in “General Discussion” that isn’t strictly related to vampires. I don’t want to spent time and effort to come up with an informative post only to have it deleted or RIA’d by someone. But if I put a topic like this in the sandbox, chances of getting intelligent responses seem to go down considerably. Can we arrive at a general consensus on the appropriate place in the forum for this kind of material? It may make it easier on Admins, Doms, and regular members alike. What say you?

Parallel can vary from witch craft, to supernatural etc...The things that are also categorized with vampires, since they are considered paranormal and similar in a way.

Yes, that does seem to be the way it often works. The subjects you mentioned are normally accepted in General Discussion. But would all the Doms/Admins agree with that? And how far does that extend? Would you consider religion to be related? How about death?

Religion if it involves christianity would probably not be accepted..Since people seem to go in a uproar if they post something pertaining to christianity.

Also another subject that would be acceptable is History. If it involves or is said to be involved with the paranormal.

If you want to know what the Dominars and Admins consider to be a good subject, If you ask I am sure they will answer you. :)

Jeez I'm in a good mood 0_0

BelleHaine: The reason I’m asking in a forum thread is so that I can get the opinions of ALL the Doms/Admins (if possible). That way, not only do I know, but these folks are aware of each others’ thoughts on the matter, and all us regular members are aware of what they say as well….

So far as Christianity, we ARE allowed to discuss this topic in the forum at large. And one could argue that Christianity plays a big role in vampire myths. According to some traditions, vampires are afraid of holy water and the crucifix. Would that not mean that Christianity is related to Vampirism? And if we’re only allowed to discuss the SPECIFIC aspects of Christianity that relate to the vampire, then would the same not also be true for the occult/paranormal? (in other words, if you can only talk about Christianity in the context of its vampiric connections; crosses, etc., then should we only be allowed to discuss things like energy manipulation in the paranormal context?)

Yes it would be nice to know what all the administrative staff thinks and gather one rule that it 100% such as the rules about posting photos with the wrong type of content on a profile or posting things considered to be copywritten onto a portfolio, the rules for those are not vague so why should the forum post rules be vague.

Everyone equally should be on the same page, when it comes to the forums. It is definately a hard job, and it does take a lot of time to go through each thread. When in doubt. Ask.

i have to be honest. i'm taking my page from other people's experiences and not opening threads in the top unless i'm 100% sure.

then again, if my thread did get bounced around for an hour that wouldn't bother me nearly as much as if someone said ahhh never mind it, and then RIA'ed it.

I agree with SatinMist but then again you might get a answer thru another that maybe not justify something that does think it belongs to.

If I had any difficulty I would have asked any dominar or Admin that was on-line on that moment,or my House master or choose one of them and wait for a response.

Usually the well thought ones survive here, not just a question or anything done for bashing or poorly spelled.

However I find it a good idea to ask.

Since this is a Vampire site, anything that directly is related or directly surrounds vampire interests should be in the General section - not - things that you (general) personally find interesting. If admin/doms/members keep in mind the reason for VR, there should not be a major problem. There is nothing wrong with having a really good and interesting thread topic in the Sandbox!

Billy: That’s exactly what I mean, though. A person’s opinion on what constitutes “vampire related” seems to vary considerably. Some would say that a thread about the occult “directly surrounds vampire interests,” while others might disagree. As to your other point….

I do agree that there’s “nothing wrong” with intelligent threads in the sandbox, but that can pose a problem. You’ve been around for a while, so I’m sure you’ve noticed this as well: The sandbox tends to contain….how should I say… threads of a lesser intellectual caliber. A lot of the people who post there seem to be looking for some type of word game or flirting bar. Now don’t get me wrong-- there’s nothing wrong with just having fun. I’m all for it. I’ll sometimes stick my avatar into one of those threads if I like what I see. But the fact remains that the sandbox is more “fun” oriented, and the serious threads are rarely given the consideration of response that you see in the “General Discussion” section. Not to mention that it takes far less time to post a comment in one of these threads than to engage in discussion or debate. Therefore, the aforementioned word games and flirting bars will just about always be on the front page, while many of the other threads will be quickly relegated to page 2, or 3, or 4.….. Where they will be viewed far less often. Why would I want to bother coming up with an informative thread if only five people respond, and three of them say “Interesting topic.”

I'd think that "GENERAL DISCUSSION" would encompass any topic..."parallel" would consist of anything out of the norm, like vampires, clairvoyancy, witchcraft, etc.

that's just my opinion tho :)

Whether your post is deemed appropriate or not often has more to do with the wording than the subject. If your post is made for an honest debate, it probably will stay. Posts that get RIA'd right off the bat are people just trying to draw attention to themselves, people trying to create dissention (for example, if someone started a forum saying "Vampires vs Christianity: Your Opinion" with no further explanation. It's obvious that that is made up just to start a fight.) And, if you don't think it's good enough to post, it probably isn't.

Also, Administrators get upset when the forum search isn't used. Seeing the same thread made by different people is never fun.

It seems that all admin staff and doms alike should get together and add a sub topic "allowed" list to this General discussion-related topic list. Thats only my lowly opinion though
