Hello! I am currently having a dilemma, and I thought this might be as good a place as any to get some objective advice from folk who don't really know me or the situation.
Sometimes friends and family are too kind and care too much to say the things that really ought to be said, and I would like an outside view, as I am currently torn in regards to my sense of Virtue in the situation..and to what the honorable thing to do in this situation would be.
I don't want to drag any names or particulars that don't really matter into the situation, since what I am really debating in my mind is rather abstract to me at the moment anyway..and I have the perfect analogy to the exact situation available to me.
So, in the interests of receiving (to any and all who respond, thank you in advance) honest advice..I shall use reference to a fairytale to explain the situation.
Thank you for bearing with me, again, I don't wish to be vague..but I honestly just want some opinions on different courses of action I could take to resolve it.
Have you heard the tale about the magic beans? You know, "Jack and the Beanstalk?" There is only a portion of this tale I'm going to focus on, as it is most similar to the situation that presented itself.
I took what I had and purchased something from someone a few years ago..some "magic beans." This is someone who I had complete faith in..unlike the stranger in Jack's story however..and while that something had the potential to be a giant beanstalk leading to magical "kingdoms"..it really did.. instead..it was secretly soaked in "pesticides" and killed everything it touched. (Metaphorically speaking)
In return for them doing me this "favor" and selling me these "magic beans"..they wanted even more compensation. When I refused to do it, because frankly, I was being bled dry by the cost of the "magic beans"..they decided to run around telling everyone they could get to listen that I was a "magic bean thief."
I stole nothing from them whatsoever..there is even more to the scenario, although I cannot share the details without straying from my analogy and giving details of a rather personal nature..but suffice it to say..there was a ton of deliberate deceit going on by the "magic bean peddler" and company..
If someone had swindled you on some magic beans..and then continued to seek a profit from their "scam"..what would you do? How would you handle it (please keep your answers legal..I'm a little limited in what I can do and what I think is worth jailtime..lol.)
Really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this, make sense of it (sorry if I'm hard to follow, I tried to keep it uncomplicated) and then responds.
