Do you who work with the Judeo Christian holy names of the celestials, write your own charges calling forth the spirits via the names? if so do you use latin? Greek? Hebrew? or english? as your base for preference? What do you do when the spirit is obstinant?

Have you ever applied the rites of summoning by the Legemeton, lesser key, the Aramadel, the grand grimoire, the Black Pullet, Ars Nortia, grimoire of pope honorous?

If so which is your favorite most reffered to old grimoire? Do you modifiy the rituals and tools? or do you adhere to them like law?

This thread also has a direction and would not be better suited as a poll. Making lots of different valid threads is not spamming the forum.

As someone who is still new to the Occult in general, when I do a ritual I create my own. I usually do a ritual for a certain god/goddess blending it with my own writings.
So no, I do not use any of the ways you mentioned.
I am also not a circle caster. I feel if you are going to call on something, why keep it out?

if u paint a pentagram on your floor and do the ritual. Put a candle on each that represents what u want. and then make sure the pentical is pointed to top. And call the corners. But u also have to do a protection spell. before u open any ritual and release it after which most witches dont and it could make u sick.

Seeing as a circle acts more of a container and barrier of energies. Keeping the work being sealed off from the rest of the world while the energy is being crafted before its release. If this was done, it could also potentiall kill you. Espcially if you have ever read what is involved in the evockation of a spirit, to force its manifestation....alot of bad things can happen to you, your life, the lives of those around you, and it would be all your fault because you did not work within a circle. that aside the point. This thread is to maintain a hopeful direction for those who apply the ceremonial magick of the golden dawn, and of the classical grimoiresl.

Well as a bit of background let me expound a little on my beliefs and practices.

My practice and belief is very syncretic. I may variously describe myself as Wiccan, Pagan, Golden Dawn, O.T.O., etc. While I hate any particular label since it can be so limiting probably the closest description would be a Thelemic Magician.

As such I do time to time summons spirits or celestials. And BTW always within the circle for the very good reasons noted.

I believe personal focus is the key to all magic and I find the antient texts and Grimoires can be quite helpful in developing the mental and spiritual discipline necessary to achieve the focus and self control that is required to practice Magick.

I find Liber Juratus (Sworn book of Honorus) useful even though many regard it primarily as a book of nigromancy, and as you know from my other posts I reject the 'black' arts. I reject this as being a book of nigromancy since it is the act and intent of the individual practioner that ultimately determines whether the magick is white or black.

Although quite difficult and inaccessible to the modern reader I also regularly read and study The Book of Abramelin. Obviously for those of you familiar with these works, they are a basis of study and a point of departure rather than something that is strictly adhered to.

I tend to practice in Latin. I have a working, if not fluent, knowledge of Latin by virtue of being a lawyer and having Doctorates in both Theology and History. I do not believe that any special powers are confired by the use of Latin, but I find it beautiful and otherwordly, and it helps to center my mind and shut out the mundane day to day stuff that runs through my head in English.

I'm sure that those of you who can work well in Greek (which despite my degrees I have always struggled with) and Hebrew or any other antient language find the same focusing effects.

I would like to thank Infernalmage for starting this thread and glad it was not just a poll. This is very interesting material for the truly adept practioners.

Lucian,

Most welcome. Thank you for your indepth post. I would be interested to know more along the lines of if you have modified the circles, and the order as well as the holy abjurations usually found in these old texts. I have studied the aforementioned books as well and do find them valauble to getting into that frame of mind.

Personally I use Sumerian, Hebrew, and Latin as well as english depending on what I have a mind to do. As well as having been successful at writing my own charges using the battery of names, evoking their powers in order of what I want to achieve, but i find this process is lengthy and irratating when speaking then names like, EL SHaDaI, YHVH, Adonai Elohiem, ....etc...

I did promise to respond to your thoughtful question...

For the most part, I am of the belief that ceremonial magic is more of an enhancement to my own fashion of realty altering. I use ceremony when I really want to make a point, though I don't go to the extent of using other languages.

Personally speaking, and I mentioned this last night, use of other languages further complicates an already complicated ritual (most ceremonial summonings are pretty lengthy and require some not-so-cheap objects and components to serve as correspondents).

I do, however, see what using original language for ceremony can contribute to both the ritual itself and to the result of said ceremony. Of course, I was never one to stand on exact ceremony. I tend to adapt more concepts to my own practice.

I think that rituals in latin work the best for me, I just personally identify better with the language. As far as grimoires go, the sacred magic of abramelin the mage was something I use, and yes I modify it severely, it's the framework itself that I use as I believe most grimoires have intentional blinds in them to throw you off, so using anything without modifying it usually proves fruitless, but this is just my opinion.

latin is for me...easier than greek...Abernelin the mage, and some of crowley older writings as a base and the rest is from other studies...I think that your own twist makes it more reliable...I never stick to the scipt...333
