I'm not entirely sure if this question has been brought to the table and do apologize if it has, however, I've been discussing the Community's issues as far as set rules for everyone to abide by with family members. Personally, I feel that since we are what we are we should be held to a higher standard as a Community and all be held accountable for our actions; this to include the ronin, House members, etc. In my honest opinion, I feel the Black Veil is a wonderful set of rules that should be in place for the entirety of the Community, followed by maintaining individual House bylaws and adherence to the laws of the outside world.
I encourage everyone to set aside the association of the Black Veil with RP and truly read the rules as they are. If the title of the rules be altered to something disconnected from the RP roots, would they appear more legitimate in your eyes? Do you think that the Community would become safer if everyone equally respected these rules? I truly am interested in everyone's thoughts.
Ahem...
The Black Veil is a set of guideline for those just starting out within the community. It was made by a few people in a club called Mothers. The basis for the Veil was taken out of the White Wolf - Vampires: The Masquerade handbook. Straight from it, with some re-writing to it.
Those who do follow it could be considered as roleplayers. A few do have the common sense to discern roleplay for the real deal. But those people are few and far between. There are many members of the Vampire Community that do live by the Veil, but at the same time take that belief system to the extremes.
The Black Veil is not for everyone, wherein the Black Veil was only ment for those who lived in the Gotham Halo or other surrounding Halo's accross the country. No independant vampires actually follow the Veil belief system because they are not part of the Halo atmosphere.
Again, only those who actually believe in the Strigoii Vii philosophies or were brought up within the New York scene, really understand what the B.V. represents, why it was formed and what Elorath actually stands for (Eternal Lord Our Regent Aaron Tood Hoyt, to put it bluntly)... There are two sides to the Community... as far as they go, is up to each individual to decide.
RomanticVampire,
Thank you for your response. Just an idea to bounce around and I know it's not an original one; the Elders of the Community should appoint the enforcers of the code. I know they exist on a House scale and in their respective Halos, but being that part of what is hurting us the most is the lack of consistent structure in the Community, I feel we should have these trusted individuals in place to keep order.
Of course, they must have just cause to enforce and this is where the Community as a whole steps in to inform one another of potentially harmful members (Not merely harmful to others, but themselves as well.) Overall, the Veil is not for the benefit of the authorities that would hold it in place, but for everyone. If you've read it, you'd know that it is a code of ethics and very much common sense.
wsoulshroudew,
Thank you as well for your response. I am well aware of it's origins and the history that followed, the issue with Father Sebastian, etc. It's only been discussed ad nauseum within the Community over the years that I have been openly participating. However, despite all that has been said concerning Father Sebastian, it still holds that he is an Elder and has contributed to the Community for ill or well in anyone's eyes. Take from his teachings what you find of use and leave the rest; or leave it all.
I am not a follower of the Strigoi Vii philosophies nor am I now or have ever been a member of a formal House, I am an independent vampire who enjoys the study of the beliefs of others, especially in the Community. Knowledge is power. I've known what the acronym "Elorath" stands for for quite some time but there is more to the Veil than what most people know.
Everyone is quick to cry "White Wolf" and "The Masquerade" when the Veil is brought up. Do you know why "The Masquerade" came about?
I will not dispute or debate anything in this thread. My post was a simple history lesson for those who may have "jaded" eyes. Nothing more, nothing less.
Final note: your ways are your ways, their ways are their ways, we all have ways... end of story.
Well, I suppose as a persona non grata you would have your own thoughts on the matter. But these threads are for discussion and debate and as I said in my initial post this was meant to be about the code itself and I am intrested as to why they would or would not be effective or fair regardless of their supposed origins. Thank you again.
I can see how this could get off topic. I am closing this thread with the suggestion to put it in your journal(s).
