The Marfa lights or the Marfa ghost lights are allegedly paranormal lights (known as "ghost lights") usually seen near U.S. Route 67 on Mitchell Flat east of Marfa, Texas, in the United States. While the lights have gained an extensive reputation as an unexplained phenomenon, recent research has suggested that most, if not all, of the lights are atmospheric reflections of automobile headlights and campfires[citation needed]. Some believe the source of the Marfa lights is static electricity, swamp gas, or even the Devil's soul.

I am wondering what others here think about the lights.
Has anyone here on the Rave ever seen them?
Do you believe they are a natural phenomenon, hoax or paranormal? And why?

I go with the researchers, that the light are created by Car's headlight in the US rood 67 and some are created by static within the atmosphere. I don't believe that there is nothing supernatural within the lights. My humble opinion.

Agreed that it most likely isnt paranormal.
I am aware of the research you mention, and their results are really compelling indeed.
I also tend to think that it might be static.

No...I think it's more atmospheric than supernatural.

Question: Why does it always have to be "swamp gas"?

I saw the lights for the first time on Unsolved Mysteries when it aired back when. I am not going to post a youtube video of it, because I don't feel like cutting in on Cancers bandwidth.

Anywho, from what I saw... the light looked more like a distant campfire more then anything. I am wondering if anyone has ever seen a willow-the-wisp in person to see how big they actually get. Could be a possible idea about what it might be, then again... the whips are like swamp gas, only (speculated) found in or around swamps, marshes or bogs. So that could be out of the question. This is, unless on that private property is an actual small marsh land that is unseen by the naked eye so far away.

Another idea could be, since the ghost light does come from the mountain region, could be an actual ghost light from a dimensional point of view, since on the Unsolved Mysteries airing, every time the camera moved toward the light... the light moved. When they thought they were at the place where the light had to have been, it was as far away as it previously was. Thus the light has to be moving.

It might be an optical illusion, but at that great of distance in a movement? I don't think so. A ghost fire from a Native American folk story makes more sense to me. Not that many folk tales have been disproven nor looked into.

Of course, it could still be a privately owned military establishment that is covertly run. The lights could be from something that is coming out of that establishment. But this could very well be easily debunked.

If the lights are from vehicles from a distance, which is why they are very hard to come close to from a distance, then why is only one seen at a time? Instead of a few as every car passes? Something to think about. Cars do have two headlights, not one.

Indeed SS. Thank you for your imput.Have you or anyone here ever seen anything like them? I have, and I would tend to believe it is ball lightning or St.Elmo's,but even so,it is a very strange thing to witness.
