OLD Route 66 is "told" and "speculated" to be the most haunted highway in America.. which stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles.

With over 66 haunted establishments, or actualy "ghost towns"


So recently.. in the early am again, I decided to do some click-abouts.. and found a ton of information.

I have never been down any part of this road.. so I am wondering if anyone here has.

If you know of a legend, please post it (Provide a link for credibility please).

Is there anything on Route 66 beyond Ghosts? Does anyone know if a lay line "power spot" is located on or near this route?

i have been on 66 before and some where along it i experinced a an energy point on the side of the road. I dared not go inot it for it consisted of nothing but black energy.

I went to Springfield, Missouri to visit a friend and didn't even know that I was on Route 66. The entire time I was there, I had Deja vu really bad. It was like I was viewing a dream I've had since I was really little. It wasn't until I got back from there that my dad told me it was on Route 66.

Living on the other side of the world, I've heard of Route 66 but only in the roadtrip sense, not the supernatural sense... so I'd love to see what everyone can drag up about it also.

On an unrelated note, I had to laugh at "providing a link for credibility"... no offense, it's just... this is the internet... credibility doesn't matter ;)

Never saw ghost's but i have been allover route 66

I am sure that after all the driving and the vehicle lag, as with jet lag, you are bound to notice something strange.

But as with the dejavu experiances, they run rampant on any highway, especially ones with so many accidents. Just be careful where you drive on 66, some of the roads run on for miles with no sign of civilization anywhere.

the only thing i have heard about rout 66 is the song by the rolling stones. i guess it must be the US equivalent of our M1 - only much bigger and going through a lot of open nothingness. no wonder it's spooky. does it have any phantom hitchhikers?

I am near Chicago and been to Route 66 and I have never heard of it being haunted.

Actualy.. there is supposed to be a "phanton" hitch-hiker about 100 miles from Chicago. About two years ago, the Travel Channel (yes.. im a geek) did a show on "America's Most Haunted Travel Spots" from the tourists viewpoint. It did a 20 minute segment on Route 66 which talked about the ghostly hitchhiker, who, if you didnt pick her up. would jump in front of you later on down the road.

I had thought that with hauntings, a ghost was bound to a person, place or thing.

I live right on 66 and have yet to see anything. A friend of mine and I go driving just looking for stuff.

Drove up to visit friends from Anaheim to Lake Havasu and Route 66 intertwines all the way up here....it is an interesting road to be on, just for the history and hot spots.

well it sounds deliciously spooky to me and I would dearly love to travel that road. I am the same with others I have only heard about it in songs and I am sure there was a movie or book that had some reference to route 66 not sure which.

With the advent of the interstate freeway system it left Route 66 mostly discarded from it's intended use. Haunted places tend to originate from similar situations. Asylums, mansions, hotels... even ghost towns. Might account for part of the stories, but some are rather convincing such as the phantom hitchhiker stories. Creepy. :)

Ive been scouring all over the net.. and had considered of putting a bus tour together which would go down 66. Then I realized.. the chances of seeing something is zero, pretty much.

I'd much rather walk down parts of it in the middle of the night.

this is a weird thing, just like the tringle....i forgot the first name...were 100's of plaens and ships have suddenly vanished.

i wanna see route 66 now.

Here is something i do not understand about route 66, most likely thousands of people go over that road everyday and you really do not hear about many bad things happening when they do, so if it was haunted really bad like a lot of people think wouldent their be more bad things happening to people?...

I believe that is probably for some reason a hot spot for spirits to go for a while inbetween when their host dies and when they find a new one

well.. route 66 is a really long road. so I dont believe the entire road could be a "hot spot".

as for not as many "stories" coming off the route since there are so many people traveling it. Well, there arent as many as before since the new freeways were built. But also, perhaps there is something in particular that triggers a certain experience to take place. Its not just 1 ghost supposedly.

Which raises the question here.. can these ghosts "sense" the type of person traveling by or approaching? Or perhaps something in a person's past, or a current emotional state, triggers an apparition to reveal itself? I know.. it sounds kinda far fetched.

I live along Route 66..my town is pretty much a tourist attraction for the road. I have to tell you that, although there are some wonderfully historical things to check out, and some beautiful landscape...the only haunting I've witnessed in this particular AZ area is that I'm constantly haunted by creepy rednecks:P
