If there is going to be a second band to warm up we just saw Life Crisis warm up for And One and they were amazing.

V.A.C. would be interesting. I thought I heard he is now a vegan tee-totaler, though. Assuming the 2009 cruise is all-inclusive, I'm not sure if he'd be interested.

Then again, not all people that abstain need to be around people of the same persuasion. I don't think I'd necessarily want to be around a bunch of alcohol, though, if I didn't drink. Then again, I guess they do have those A.A. meetings on board...

Oh, Nitzer Ebb would be a nice choice. Or Orange Sector, that would be cool. Wumpscut and Suicide Commando still my top choices, but I realize those are not likely. Supposedly, Johan (of SC) is afraid of flying, so I doubt he'd be interested in flying to the U.S. and then staying on a ship for a week.

Whitehouse would be funny. Someone mentioned Voltaire, I think that would be a great choice! Fixmer & McCarthy would also be very cool.

Christian and I talked about how we'll probably be too poor to do the goth cruise again in 2009 unless Suicide Commando is playing but the chance of that is slim cose supposedly Johan Van Roy has a fear of flying.

This is a Goth cruise. A lot of the bands mentioned thus far are not Goth.

Goth is a dwindling genre. The next closest musical genre would be synthpop. A lot of the bands mentioned are industrial or noise.

And One is currently tourning and already planning another tour later this fall. They jumped off of a tour with VNV Nation last year when they realized more people were coming to see them than VNV.

Cruxshadows would be great, but may be difficult to sign. They have said they may not tour again. Their last tour was about a year ago.

A-23 has been mentioned numerous times. I like their music and I've seen them live - but they don't do a very good live show. Most of it is pre-sampled.

In New York the great clubs are long gone. Little bars are trying to hold their own. I think Goth/synth/Industrial/Noise are all intertwined. Are there any real Goth bands that would draw a crowd anymore? Christian Death is long gone. I think music today is a mix of each in their own way. My Rammstein request is a wet dream in a selfish way;) When I looked at the crowd from the last cruise it was an equal mix from all the corners of our scene. I pray for a band that will draw a crowd to keep this wonderful experience going. Quoted from a awsome personfrom our last night.... "We are a clan".... Ronan Harris. I hope Combichrist is great... VNV will be very difficult to upstage.

for those that dont know of the band.. I would recommend researching Blutengel.

There are still goth bands around. Blutengel is a great example. Cruxshadows has moved a little bit off of goth, but they're still considered goth.

Christian Death is more gothic rock. Different decade and genre.

Goth is diminishing as a musical genre. It's why I said synthpop is the closest genre to goth. Next I would say comes EMB, then electroclash, then industrial, then noise.

Most goths have embraced synthpop bands like Wolfshiem, And One, VNV Nation (They're synthpop, not future pop), Icon of Coil, Stromkern, Covenant (they're a little closer to EBM), Beborn Beton, Rotersand, Ladytron, et al.

Industrial and Noise are DIFFERENT. I'm not saying there isn't cross over, there is. But you can't call them goth.

Cruxshadows would be the biggest mistake ever!!! If you know Rogue,then you know what I'm talking about.

That's from personal experiences,but that's just my 2 cents.I still listen to their music and I still enjoy them as a band.

I'll prob got shot down for this one as they are a better studio band but System Syn? I kind of really got into their music after they opened for VNV. During their performance I was just sorta anxious from VNV but all three of their albums are REALLY good and they seem like they'd be loads of fun to have onboard :)

Blutengel is interested in playing.. but it would drive the cost of the cruise way up, as they want their airfare covered from Germany.. which is about 1000.00 a person. - and they have 10 people to travel.

So I am not so sure they are realistic. If I were to consider Blutengel, which really I am as they are just awesome performers, It would have to be a cruise with a 2 year booking window so that people can make payments and save. The cost of 1 cruise ticket would jump from 1100 to about 1500 (all inclusive of course).

First and foremost is the clubbing onboard and the people. The band is secondary but definately a plus. $400.00 extra for a concert is a bit steep. Not definately out of the question but steep. I like them but not that big of a fan.

The additional airfare you spoke about even if it was 1,000.00 each way would be $20,000.00. Yes?

That is a $200 concert ticket. Not sure if I would follow through on that expense.

I like their music, but the extra $400 is needed for other stuff.

Well, the 10K in airfare, is in addition to their normal band fee, plus the equipment rental.

I would have to say to try different avenues.There are ALOT of wonderful bands even here in the States that would be alot less expensive.I don't think it would be worth it.

Agreed. I think even if you got some relative unknowns from the U.S. it would be worth it to keep the cruise prices down. Either that, or remove the all-inclusive and get a big band that will cost more.

My personal opinion is that even this year's prices are pushing it. And I don't mean that negatively, I simply mean that I am not sure how many people are willing to pay more than this year.

Maybe foreign bands can be persuaded to get their own transportation for the cruise? I know they are also running a business, but maybe some might be interested, as this is a unique experience.

All inclusive is my reason for joining this cruise... Saves Patti and I $$$$.. Payin more for a band and then getting a $1200 liqour bill is not in the cards for me. I was able to recruit people for this cruise just because of the open bar policy. I'd rather take an up and coming band than pay that much extra. Most important element of all is the DJ. DJ Steve was incredible last cruise so ya got your hands full Evil;) But I can't wait to hear ya spin! Dancin under the stars!!!

Okay, Here is the hubbub on Blutengel. We'd have to wait until our numbers reach about 400 people on a cruise. And that IS doable .

Here is our main problem though - advertising, promotions, and marketing. Unlike the rock-n-roll scene.. gothic and industrial does not have 1 main source where everyone goes to. Each city has its own publications both mainstream and underground. So its impossible to really get the word out on the cruise. Ive been doing it 15 years and have only hit maybe 5% of the scene.

Note.. I have not sent out flyers yet, because at this point.. I dont think Ronan will be DJ'g.. which means I have to change ALL my graphics.

I think this is a cool line-up. Bauhaus played Coachella festival 1 or 2 years ago and they may bought for another again.
Xymox doesn't play the u.s. states, so having them on the cruise would be awesome.
& Hocico, their sound, energy, and stage show speaks for itself....

As a line up, I think it's an ultimate Line-Up.
I would be there in a heart beat, an so would many of my friends....

P.S. as for The Electric Hellfire Club, would love to see them play, but only if they play from their "Burn Baby Burn" or "Satans Little Helpers" albums, They were the best.... sweet

So here is a suggestion for one "hell" of a live band:

{Please dont flame me because they are more metal than "goth"... I know that. Its the BDSM aspect that would make me even suggest they would remotely fit within the range/domain of the genre}

Iv'e seen em 3 times, and they get freakier every single time I see them. In fact I think they left me with psychological scars...

The Disney cruise line would be perfect for them... heh heh heh

Otherwise my top suggestions (already suggested - and other than of course Rammstein) would be KMFDM & Velvet Acid Christ.

When I think of Laibach or stompy, I never conceived of stomping kittens. Thanks for that odd imagery.

The Genitorturer's violate way to many Carnival rules and policies. given it has taken over 15 years for the Gothic Cruise to be accepted by a few of the major cruise lines, im not willing to jeopardize our standing. Perhaps when our numbers reach the thousand mark for people attending, I will be able to book a full ship charter (in which we are the only group onboard) and pull in more intense groups.

The Gothic Cruise will never step foot on a Disney ship. They will not give us the space we need, and will not allow concerts onboard. disney ships do NOT have Casino's and they have EXTREMELY limited adults only areas. Everyone would have a miserable time on a Disney ship AS part of the gothic cruise.

As long as you know I was being more facetious than realistic there Z.... Hell Gen and her troupe have violated way too many of 'my' rules and policies!

Actually I do have a couple cruise-band suggestions in all seriousness of thinking about broad range marketability (e.g. significantly more mainstream to pack a boat but certainly within the modern "goth" genre definition)

Yeah I always mess up the spelling too. But then again I can mess up ACDC when Im thinking about perdy eyes and music that hits the core of the heart casing... :-)

its not that Evanescense or Lacuna Coil are to big for a cruise ship to handle. In all honesty, they've handled bigger.

Its the sheer cost of hiring those bands. IT would drive the cost of the tickets up quite a bit. With a group over 300 cabins, Carnival wont let us have the all inclusive feature either. So a cruise ticket for the inside cabin would be about 1,000 a peice and not be all inclusive.


All Genre is looking at a few mainstream bands for a new cruise. We are looking at timing it so that it can be booked 2 years in advance so everyone who wants to go can pay it off over time. I will keep you posted on that!
