Well I know my fiancee and I are. I'm on 24/7 b###h call for work. (Hospitals get pi$$y when their computers go down) So mine is coming. My fiancee just like playing her games and such so hers is coming. If anyone else is bringing theirs I will pack my wireless gear so we can share music and such on board anyone on deck 6 should be able to get the signal :)
We will be bringing at least 1, maybe two. I usually get one of the ships wireless internet plans to check email, and send rude insulting messages with photos of tropical paradise to my friends at work!
I also download and organize all the photos from our digital cameras each day. We will also use it as a DVD player if we want to watch something and the ship's selections don't strike our fancy.
We are on deck 6 so are potential clients for your goth network at sea!
Well we will bring two as well.. Who can live a week without the internet??? LMFAO
I want to have them their for my photo storage as well
Leave the laptop? You mean.. a week without work?
HEHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA
::falls of her chair in hysterics::
I'm with you KCRC, got to show everyone what they are missing. :)
How much are the wireless plans on ship? I don't think my work will loan me a satphone especially if I'm using it to show them how much fun we're having. :)
Wildchild and I will be bringing ours.. we are wireless
Im bringing one to download picts from our cameras. Here is the information about the Ships Internet. Peace More info here:

Guests may bring their own personal Laptop for use on board by using our Wireless Internet Service.
If the laptop is not equipped with a Wireless Internet Card, guests will need to rent one from the Internet Cafe.
If the laptop is running on Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 95, software will be installed in order to run the Wireless System. This will take approximately five minutes.
If the laptop is running on Windows XP, the above software is not needed. The Wireless Internet Service is compatible with a Wireless 802.11b card, which is the industry standard.
Even with the wireless service, guest's personal Laptop must be used in close proximity of the Internet Cafe. It cannot be used in guest’s staterooms.
Internet Cafe Price List
To utilize the service of the Internet Cafe while using one of the private workstations, a guest's personal laptop or a laptop rental, the charges are as follows and will be billed directly to the guest's Sail & Sign Account:
A one time activation fee of $3.95 applies to each user.
A basic time charge is $0.75 per minute (pay as you go).
Discounted Time Plans can be used anytime throughout the cruise until debarkation; no refund for unused minutes. Plans are subject to change.
100 minutes for $55.00 ($0.55 per minute)
250 minutes for $100.00 ($0.40 per minute)
To rent a Wireless Radio Card for a guest's personal laptop, the rate is $10.00 per day; optional insurance is $3.00 per day.
To rent a laptop, the charge is $35.00 per day; optional insurance is $10.00 per day.
A point to keep in mind is that the ship's sattelite internet connection (at least the one they rout the guests through) is SLOW. So if you are going to send emails, it's best to have them composed offline and then connect and do a send/receive and read your new mail after you log off. Those minutes do not have much bang for the buck, as most go by waiting for the next screen to load!
I might bring mine, but honestly it might be easier just to buy an additional card for the camera. I am a net addict, but there shouldn't be anything TOO critical that I need to check. I guess it depends on the how expensive the wireless plan is
Well, that cuts out playing Warcrack drunk. Damn. I'll still bring the laptop, though. I'm not spiffy enough to own a decent sized iPod, so I need the laptop for music aboard the plane and at night in my room.
I have a headphones splitter and other such things, and I DO have my iPod loaded with about 12000 songs (I used to play at a club), so I'd be happy to provide some musical entertainment for the pre-party.
bringing mine for photos, you all are right, it will be sweet to rub those tropical pics in others faces!!!
Inky, you would not want to try to play Warcrack on that slow of a connection, you’d get owned all the time. Besides the cost would be outrageous and you’d miss all the fun of even being on the cruise. ;)
Any one have info on if our Port Calls have Internet Cafes or open hotspots? It’d be a lot cheaper and easier to use one of the hotels open hotspots to jump online than the ships slow connection.
I may see if I can rack up some extra hdd space just in case people start running out. I don't have a burner on my old dell, but it works great for storage until I get back home with all my various machines.
About laptops.
I just heard from a fellow agent in the industry, that upon her return from her last cruise, the port authority tried to charge her a customs tax on her laptop as they believed she'd bought it in the caribbean.
Folks, record your model numbers of your laptop.. and be sure to register them when you board. If you have your receipt with you however, its no worries.
I'd believe that they'd take one look at my aging laptop and laugh if I'd claimed to pay more than $10 for it.
I will record the #'s if I decide to bring it, good thinking!
Mine looks so beaten up they'd know its not new :) It onlt a year old but I'm hard on laptops...
The top of mine is covered in stickers, a corner is busted off, the mouse pad doesn't work...I don't think they would argue about mine. But you never know.
I bought a new one last month. It's american made (so it will probably explode a day after the warranty), cheap, and runs like a dream.
It also has a spot for 2 hard drives. I will hopefully have the funds for a storage drive, so that we can all get together (wirelessly ?) and share whatever pictures we want.
For those pitiful souls with no laptop, most of us will probably have at least cd if not dvd burners. I wouldn't want to spend much time doing it, but would be fine with sharing or mailing off a round of pictures.
I am actually looking forward to leaving mine home and not touching it for a week! I spend enough time on the damn thing as it is. I know it will miss me though.
I'll be bringing my crappy one as well to offload pics and pump the beats.
A week without a computer? Wow! How cool is that? My room mate said he is bringing his, but I'll just have to throw it overboard...
Got to have the laptop, even if it is to play one of the 10,000 songs that I love.
I must be close to a computer. Ever since I had my Commadore 64 in 1982, I have been hooked on the near-cyborgtic existance of computing.
I'll be sure to make up for any drinking being missed by people going online.... It's a sacrifice but one Patti and I are willing to take......:P But I do like the idea of music swapping
Don't know if I mentioned this already, I can bring a 250GB hd that's 100% completely full of "files". (Shhh.. The RIAA is listenening)
I gots da same.
I mean, one has to store pr0n somewhere.....
I doubt I'd bring it though, as external drives take up space. plus if it gets wiped somehow I'd have to transfer it all again. I'm not all about that :P
Ok Laptop users look for the Wireless network "Gothcruise"
Enter this URL into your web browser http://192.168.1.2:8000
There will be 2 links to 2 different MP3 feeds. 1 is the Ongoing History of New Music with Alan Cross (The Best show ever) the other will be Random MP3s from the collection
Haha, very cool, setting up a mini LAN onboard! Wish I had me one o' them laptops, but that's one gadget (probably the only gadject, actually) that I haven't seen my way clear to purchase yet.
On the other hand, I'm taking down names, in case my ipod needs a recharge! ;-)
If I dont find another Ac/dc plug for my Dell Laptop I will just have to bring my Moded XBOX to play CDS & DVDS & the 1000 games I have on it. Stupid Dell computer is only 1 year old and needs a new cord allready. :(
I'm a big fan of modded X-boxes.
Now quick hurry and download the entire first season of "Flight of the Conchords" and we'll be fast friends.
I havent even heard of it. I have about 80 Xbox games though. I even have the Light Guns for House of the Dead. I have about 1000 emulators also so I am going to bring it anyways. Like we wont have enough to do. lol
Silver, Depending on the model I might have a spare. Probably too late to get this message between now and my flying out, but if it is a match I'd give it to you for shipping.
