I've booked a second vacation for this month. I'll be leaving for Dallas on the 16th. I'll be there a week. When I get home, I'll be leaving 2 days later for Long Beach.
I will be hitting The Church on Thursday, May 17th and possibly Protocol on Friday and/or Luftwaffe on Saturday.
If you're a regular at any of those clubs, send me a message.
Sunday it's Six Flags...
It looks like I will be able to manage a small vacation before my next semester of college starts. Four of us are going to Long Beach, California for 5 days around the Memorial Day weekend.
I'm also trying to plan a night at Das Bunker on Friday and/or Bar Sinister in L.A. on Saturday night. If you're a regular at either of those clubs, send me a message.
I was really impressed with Spiderman 3. I finally figured out why the Spiderman movies are so good, despite being action films.
I love action films, but most of the time, the story lines are horrible. The Spiderman movies only masquerade as action films. They're written first as a drama. The story is deeply developed. Only after the story has been written is the action is added in.
At least that is how I picture them being written - the action as an after thought.
The first hour of the movie kind of makes you scratch your head... There's a little bit of misdirection (which is always great in a film), but it all starts coming together by the middle of the film.
The ending sequence is by far the best of the 3. It's worth waiting for.
I recommend seeing the film in a full theater with as many teenagers as possible. This is not something I would normally recommend, but in this case, I do. The crowd reaction to the film is very fun. It's also funny watching how the teenagers react (very inappropriately) to the emotional scenes of the film.
I'll give only 1 thing away to explain my meaning. When Peter Parker starts crying the audience erupts with laughter... Toby McGuire does a great job at looking "akward"... the kids don't know how to react to it.
I had a business meeting late this afternoon with a someone I hadn't met before. He was a nice enough guy, probably in his late forties.
So we're going through the meeting and it's obvious that he's a little perplexed. He finally just comes right out and says, "How old are you?"
I looked right at him and said, "I am turning 35 this year."
A look of relief came over him. He said, "When you walked in here I thought you were barely 25. You know how it is dealing with those 25-year-olds... Then we started talking, and your experience level did not fit someone who was in their mid-twenties."
I didn't respond right away. I remembered being 25 (and looking all of 16 at the time) and how I was treated in the business world. I felt a little tinge of animosity, but I let it go.
I finally said, "I get that a lot. Everyone tells me I look like I'm in my mid-twenties."
