Daddy,



I just got news today that you are in the hospital and will be going off to a nursing home. I do hope that you are still around when I come down home to visit and try to spend time with you while I can.



I also know this...I know that you are a stubborn man who is very independent and will not be happy in the nursing home because your independence will be gone. You will no longer be able to go to the bar two times daily as you did nor will you get to hang around your scumbag friends who take advantage of you.



I know that we have not had the greatest relationship but you were the man who took me and my brother and sister in when our biological mother could no longer care for us...for that I am grateful.



I know too that because of your drinking problem that you abused me in many ways..but I forgive you for that because you did take us in and you are the father that I grew up with. You weren't around much when we were kids and only came around about once every six months only to take us out and buy us a toy just to take us back home again. I too forgive you for that.



I want you to know Daddy Dearest that I do love you even though you put me through hell growing up. When you are gone I will grieve but also know that you will have escaped the pain that you too have dealt with during your years.
