Whispers in the Wind

I bare my soul now
With nothing to lose inside
I whisper "I... lov... love you."
The words stick in my throat.
They won't come out again.
Did you hear me?
Did I really say it?
You don’t acknowledge me.
You look down and away.
It hurts to see you this way.
So disconnected yet so involved.
You look up at me,
Your eyes longing.
The words are spoken quietly,
“I love you too.”
Silence invades the air,
And fear settles over us.
We lean in only to hear the door open.
Our time has ended.
You walk away.

Hidden in the darkest of the woods,
Lost within her ecstasy,
Enjoying her freedom.
She never thought life could get this out of hand.
It intrigued her.
It enveloped her.
She was scared,
Yet she let herself be free.
Free for once in her short life.
That’s all she really needed,
To be free from her demons at last.
