The following recipe is a home made herbal salve that was created to help heal sores, diaper rash, and other afflictions to the outside areas of the body. Not intended for internal uses.
~Healing Salve~
8 ounces of vasoline melted in a medium size saucepan over low heat. (use one that will not be used for cooking afterwards)
1 medium Aloe Vera leaf. We will use the inside gel of this leaf.
1/4 cup chamomile fresh or 2 chamomile tea bags
Comfrey root about 1 teaspoon. I have used fresh comfrey leaves with great success.
Put the chamomile, and comfrey root into a piece of cheese cloth and tie securely. Set this into the melted vasoline and allow to steep for about 15 minutes. The smell of the chamomile for those who are unfamiliar with this herb, smells of apples.
After steeping the above herbs remove sauce pan from heat and add the aloe vera gel.
Gently stir these ingredients until they are blended. Using a ladel, or small measuring cup, pour this mixture into small jars such as cleaned baby food jars, or any thing you wish to put your salve into. I have used the small containers that "lip gloss" comes in. It is great for putting into a cosmetic bag that you use in your purse.
Allow this mixture to cool and solidify. Once it has cooled it can be used right away.
An added item that can be put into the salve when it is still in liquid form, is 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Be sure to mix everything well, and give the potion a stir to keep everything well blended.
