For the last couple years I was ready and willing to join the military. As of late I have decided against it for various reasons. Today I received a phone call from an army reserve recruiter. I told him I was no longer interested in joining the military. When He asked why, I told him because I want to go to college and study paleontology and philosophy. He asked me how I was going to pay for college. I told him I was going to get a part time job. He then told me that if I were to join the military I would get a $20,000 enlistment bonus. Then I would also get a monthly payment and would only have to spend a small amount of time every month with the military. As tempting as it sounds I am still unsure about this. To help with the decision I have made a pro con chart



Pros:

- Enlistment bonus

- Monthly check

- Would be able to get a contract exempting me from being sent to war for 2-4years



Cons:

- I have to reside in an area with an army reserve checkpoint thingy

- Probably wouldnt be able to travel much

- I would have to spend at least 8 years (I think) in the army reserve

- Would be able to get a contract that exempts me from war for only 2-4 years



These are the only things I can think of at the moment. I will do a little research and possibly speak with the recruiter again. I may also check out the other reserves and see if there is one that suits me better. Mainly the only thing stopping me from deciding to join is the fact that I will feel caged because I wont be able to travel around a lot and will have to report to an army reserve station monthly. Eight years is a long time......

Yesterday at school I went to the snack line during lunch. My friend Keith was working the cash register. I bought a couple snacks and added it up in my head. Since Keith knew me he took my word on the price. A little while later I was recounting the incident in my head and when I redid the math I realised I had counted wrong and owed him a nickel. So I went back and gave Keith the nickel and told him I added the math incorrectly and owed it to him. He gave me a funny look and said ok. I think he was surprised I came back just to give him a nickel.

I was part of a planning committee at my school that intended to start a reading club. Me and three other students and one of the librarians got together to design a reading club and to decide how it should work and what it should do. The first few meetings went over really well. Then I volunteered to go in front of the student counsel and present what we had decided and request to become an official school club. Thankfully they voted in favor of reading club and we are now a school club. There was one more planning meeting before the first official meeting for all of the members. Only me and my friend Ashley were able to make this meeting, so it was hard to accomplish anything without the other two because we did not want to make any decisions without their imput. Today was the first official meeting of reading club. It was horrible. Only Ashley and I showed up. Mrs. Wells, the librarian was able to make the second half. As a result we did not accomplish anything we had hoped to accomplish. We were supposed to elect officers today and decide what activities we were going to do. Since nobody showed up Ashley and I had to decide some of the stuff. Ashley and I are co-presidents of the club. yay. I was really hoping for an officer position. These positions are only temporary though until we can get the club on its feet and have the members vote. Although I am confident I can secure an officer position. Well thats all for now. I will probably update next week because thats when the next meeting is supposed to be. I hope more people show up to this one.
