Spades (Part One)

19:06 Mar 30 2014
Times Read: 269

I drove around with Taylor, Axel, and Jackson in the city, the lights like colorful direction, guiding us in the night. The bright in the dark. I could see the stars.

Axel pulled the car next to Spades, a secret night club. The neon deck of cards in the window flickered. He knocked twice and whispered a password, before opening the door with a wicked grin, taking us to the black corridor that led downwards into the party. This would be my first time here.

We had to take off our shoes before stumbling into the hallway. I could barely make out the swirling patterns of red on the walls in the darkness, tiny curved arrows to our destination. Somehow, the red looked almost golden. I went to touch to one, but at the last second, Jackson grabbed my hand. When I looked up for an explanation, he shook his head sadly and cradled my hand in his own. I settled for staring at them instead, and then I decided to take a good look at my friends. Axel's shock blue hair looked like living spiked water. Taylor's dark red hair had turned an eerie shade of almost-black burgundy. Jackson's face was solemn under the matted hallow of his pure white hair. His pink eyes had turned red. His snow-white skin was almost translucent. Jackson was albino, but this was different. He looked sinister and powerful. I looked at my own black hair and realized I couldn't see it at all. It just looked like part of the walls and floor. My black nails looked like wholes in my fingers, even my black toenails I had tipped red looked almost invisible, with the red showing shiny.

I realized there was no light source, so I shouldn't be able to see at all. I looked again at the red marks at the walls and realized they were glowing faintly. I looked to Jackson to ask what this place was, but I couldn't find my voice. He turned and saw me gaping, and whispered into my ear, "There's no talking in the hallways. Just listen for the music, that's how you'll know we're almost there." I closed my mouth and we kept walking. I realized I had no idea how long we'd been walking for. I swallowed heavily, then rubbed my shoulders and shivered. It had gotten cold, and I was in a tank top and shorts. The fabric looked like wholes in my being too, I was wearing only black. I tugged at my choker.

I could hear the faint playing of a distant electric guitar, and I could almost feel the bass playing. I started to walk faster, but slowed when Jackson and the other kept a steady pace. I reached for my phone to check the time, but remember that Taylor had told me to leave it in my shoe. No electronics allowed. I shivered again. The music was louder, and I could see a faint light...

Blood

06:45 Mar 30 2014

Dorian watched with childlike curiosity as the blood fell in droplets to the glass floor, forming patterns like delicate ice on winter grass. The blood leaked lightly in square patterns, mimicking the tiny tiles in the floor, before freezing in the sub-zero temperatures of the room. It looked like expensive red wine. He smiled.

He paced the room. Everyday, this black-glass enclosure got smaller. He waited for the day the walls finally collapsed in and crushed him. Dorian squeezed his hands together and chuckled, before running them through his inky black hair. He chewed at a nail, and then his lip, and then the fragile and pale skin on his hand. He twitched. He paced some more, and he sat down. He convulsed.

Dorian couldn't remember a time where he'd been so uncomfortable.

A meal tray slid under the door. Dorian glanced from his place on the floor and screamed as he heard the footsteps echo down what he presumed to be a hallway, away from his door. He stumbled to the door and fell over next to the food. It was microwaved raw steak. He licked and bit it greedily, sucking out the juice and tearing the steak. When it was gone he licked the plate, and then cried. It was the first thing he'd eaten in a week.
