I was being polite and this was a response i got.
If you wish to talk to me fine but dont expect me to roll out a red carpet and lay out me best china to hold a conversation!

Merry Meet, i have out of courtesy let you know that i have indeed added and rated your profile as a member of vr it is sometimes required to do so when joining here. No really can you believe it their is a section in the rule book and everything.

This isn't a damned if you don't situation- most people don't prefer 'added and rated' messages, and no one would get mad if you didn't send them.
The only people that want you to add them are those that have leveling as a priority on Vampire Rave. Many people still have actual friendships and social networking as priority.

Dont get me wrong im not denying yes i will add and rate people for leveling.
But i do also speak to people on here as well and will hold a conversation quite well.
My point is i have at times, in the past when i have added a person i have had my head bitten off because i didnt let them know.
So as a curtesy i do message people to let them know.
But if you are going to critisize about politeness and leave a message like the above then it is two faced.
As for popularity if you dont like a person well why then rate a persons profile a 10 in the first place. If you feel a way about a person?
Im not upset at what a person may rate or choose not to rate me but again it is two faced.

There are admins that will immediately block you if you send them a messages that says, 'added and rated'. It's not about being polite. I'm not trying to sound mean, here... those messages are just annoying and full of assumption that they are welcome and wanted. It isn't a greeting, it isn't a compliment. Rating people is selfish and not complimentary because it done for the purpose of leveling- adding people you don't know is done in hopes they will add you as well to help *you*. Adding people here you don't know is something some people think is ridiculous. I don't care if people add me or don't- I ignore those messages and just delete them.
It isn't two-faced. Two-faced would be saying you didn't want those messages, then sending them yourself. That isn't happening.

Hello there. I have to agree with imagesinwords on this one. I don't see it as two faced. I've been quite irritated when receiving those messages on bad days.
I would quite rather a message that says "Hello. I've rated your profile and added you in hopes of later talking to you. I find you interesting and would love to develop a friendship with you."
It's not as short and a lot more feeling is in it than the message you had sent.
I do the same as images. I delete the messages from people that are like that. I do reply if they have a topic started though.
I receive those messages almost twice every week, if not more often. It is annoying. I don't care if someone added me. I have less than 100 people on my friends list. Why? Because I talk to them or at some point was really good friends with them. I don't like adding people just to add them but that's just me.
=] I hope you don't let the message from Apocapus get you down.

I ignore added and rated messages as well..it is just very boring and not a good way to start a conversation...
Usually I do not rate people if I do not like their profile, if i do it is an automatic 10 and I try to give at least a few words of sweetness..If I really like them I will send a bite or a couple sentences to spark interest..then if that works request to add them mutally..
otherwise i do not see the point

It is true some get ticked off because they were added and didnt know but there are also many who dont mind and get annoyed with added and rated messages. At least it wasnt continued with: please return the favor. It is polite because it has please in it, but at the same it is demanding. Well it is your right to live the vr journey as you want to, like others have theirs.
