Love vs Hate

19:15 Dec 30 2017
Times Read: 245

I have seen it growing. Perhaps over the last few years or so. When AI got the better of the internet [?], but that doesn't negate the response by living and breathing human beings. I have found that people can grow to fear and then hate what they do not understand. Right now, I live around people who don't hate to that extreme, but I used to. I had people around me for a short time that hated those of differing skin colors, differing religious beliefs, differing ways of life. They even chastised me for even "living among 'those people'". I get that people are fearful of something they've never experienced or know well. But, in the "information age" as people are calling it now, why wouldn't the average human embrace diversity? Why wouldn't they embrace learning about other cultures that perhaps, on a day to day basis to the rest of their lives, they may not personally interact with? [watch Anthony Bourdain's series. Not just one, all of them to find out about other cultures and their effervescent diversity. I kid you not, this series will enrich your life.].

Why is there such hatred on the internet? I don't see this playing out in real life? Yes, there is tons of violence where I live. Crimes are committed daily. But on the scale of the internet comments I see? Doesn't pale in comparison. Do humans hate this much, but there is also the issue of free speech. I think it should he open, but I think that more people should be involved to shut the bullshit down. But Education is key.

Education, ladies and gentlemen, has been watered down since the 80's. Yes, as a high school graduate, I was a part of this but the most important teacher I had, that often was butting heads with the school council was my history teacher. Oh yes, Mr. G went against many things they wanted, like teaching us the why's and how's along with the what, when and where, adage of teaching at the time. He often lectured over the bell time. He formed the history club so we could [partially] get out and have some real world experiences...and have fun. Yes, I went to NYC on my "field trips", but it was less than a half days buss ride and I learned about people I had not met as of yet. My history teach in HS opened my eyes to the world. I went on after that to visit the land of my grandparents, on my dad's side, the United Kingdom. I traveled cross country to places that I don't think I would have visited if it were not for the 'this town has either a gas station or camping spot' somewhere in it's itinerary.

But, since, I've encountered people who graduated, even college, after me who can't name their state capital, or who don't know where their state is on a map. They have no idea on how to do research or find facts. How has this happened? They are also ignorant of how this country was founded. They assume, by the teachings given to them, which are not true, that the United States of America was founded peacefully and as a Christian Nation. I hate to say they were wrong on both parts. The evidence in the writings of the founding fathers does not support that. It was not founded peacefully and it was only founded to escape religious persecution.

Why, in the "information age" are people so either willingly ignorant or stupid.

Where is the idea that we are all human and the result of that being the same? Death is our result. Why not embrace what is in the middle? I've never understood cons or promises of eternal life after one dies. Yes, I do understand faith in the tangible. I don't understand faith of the unfathomable, of the "you have to believe to get there", mentality. Yes, there is a certain amount of faith to expect that human beings will behave with compassion and fortitude, but even that is tested in this current time.
