Day 3

21:01 Nov 30 2011
Times Read: 499

Today was slightly easier, with, once again, mornings being the hardest. I really wanted a nice cuppa. I even dreamt about breaking my diet last night and going to a cake-tasting. :(

Breakfast was an omelet w/ zucchini and rosemary, and some plain yogurt w/ pumpkin seeds.

Lunch was a buckwheat salad w/ onions, pesto, and apple-cider vinegar.

Dinner was brown rice pasta w/ a sauce of tomatoes, asparagus, zucchini, rosemary, and garlic.

Day 2

22:46 Nov 29 2011
Times Read: 507

I didn't get my five-a-day in today, as I was out in town for most of it. It's really difficult to eat out on this diet...

Breakfast was millet porridge w/ xylitol and a handful of pumpkin seeds and blanched almonds.

Lunch was a two-egg omelet with onions, garlic, and rosemary.

Dinner was a hamburger patty and sliced cherry tomatoes.

I think xylitol ( a low-GI fruit-sugar) might just save my life. I am trying not to use it too much though, as I still want to get into the habit of depending less on sweetened foods.

You'll get used to less sweetened things. You may eventually make the GAH face when something is "over" sweetened. :)

Day 1

22:54 Nov 28 2011
Times Read: 516

I've been having some health issues for the last while, and at the suggestion of one friend, and the testimony of another, I've decided to go on a 21-day cleansing diet. The basic goal of the diet is to keep my glycemic-load extremely low. So no sweet foods, fruit, or caffeine, and extremly limited intake of most grain products.

Today was my first day, and it was really difficult. I suspect the difficulty was more psychological than anything else, as I had to keep away from my primary studying-all-day comfort - tea with milk and sugar. Breakfast was the hardest, as I would usually have wholemeal toast with an egg or some oat porridge with brown sugar, and I couldn't have either of these things. I instead was limited to two duck eggs fresh off the farm, which were tasty but not satisfying on their own.

Lunch was brown rice pasta with a homemade sauce of tomatoes, garlic, zucchini, and apple-cider vinegar.

Dinner was more of the above sauce with some plain yogurt added, served over chicken and cooked buckwheat (kasha).

It will be difficult to keep up with this diet at college, especially since lack of sleep and long days really make it hard not to go for cappuccino or a chocolate bar. I'm thinking it will be mostly salads prepared at home...

Two words: stir-fry. Tons of veggies and lean meats. Quick to prepare and also full of more nutrients. You WILL be eating more so prepare for that. I also scramble two eggs with tons of veggies. Typically I use olive oil and onions or garlic as major seasoning. Let me know if you want some quick ideas.

Operation Rescue Friend from France commences.

So many Amanda Knox jokes to be made in the coming weeks.
