Carly knew about her whole family having mage-sight, which is passed down through generations. The shapeless colors and blurry visions she saw during science made the teachers face to such distortions that she busted into a gale of laughter.
"Ms.O'Connell! Do you mind, explaining to the class what is so funny?" Mrs Kain asked as she laid her book down and crossed her arms.
Stifling a snicker Carly cleared her thrioat and she calmly answered. "Mrs. Kain, I did not mean to interrupt the class, but something you said reminded me of a very off-color joke my uncle had told me," she spread her hands, "and it struck me as funny."
Mrs. Kain continues to at her, "O'Connell, if you do not mind," she looked around the room, "we would like to resume class. So, any off-color memories try to contain your outbursts until you are dismissed."
Carly had a twin sister, Carrie; the ironic thing was they did not look anything alike. Carly had red hair and green eyes. Carrie had blond hair and blue eyes.
Other than that they were identical, Carly was more academic and Carrie was more athletic. The girls were in a fair share of extra-curricular activities also.
The girls had a rare gift, telepathy, they didn't know whether it was because of them being twins, or because they were witches.
While she was taking notes, she could feel the "tingle" that she got when her sister tried to reach her. "What Carrie," she thought, "I really don't feel like giving you the answers to the Geometry test next period."
"No Carly," she heard in her head, "I don't need that, I don't think either one of are going to be here next period. My sight is so messed up that i almost broke my neck on the uneven bars in gym class."
Carly's eyes widened, "Are you alright?" she replied in thought, "Look, I have an idea. Go to the bathroom on "C" hall then we can talk, we've got a fifteen minute break. That should be long enough to contact Mom and come up with a plan to get out of school."
The only response she got was "Okay.", the tingling finally stopped and she continued to take notes. Shortly after that the bell rang and she carefull made her way to the "C" hall, as she rounded the corner she could barely see. Upon entering the bathroom she made sure she was alone.
She had made a discovery. While she used magick she could see clearly. Calry slowly walked over to the sink to wash her eyes, hpoing that it would ease the problem.
She bent over the sink and gently put the cool water on her face, it didn't work. Carly reached for a towel, but before she reached far enough someone handed her one. "I guess you'll need this, huh?"
Carly took the towel and turned quickly. She could barely make out her twin sister, Carrie.
Carrie was standing there, her hands on her hips. Unlike Carly she was more outgoing on of the two. For example, Calry was dressed in a pair of faded blue jeans, a button-up light weight gray sweater.
Carrie on the other hand, wore tight black jeans with red criss-crossing from her hiip to the cuff. Her shirt was red with black criss-crossing from the shoulder to the cuff of her sleeve. Carlt wore tennis shoes, Carrie wore boots.
Dabbing her face she hopped on the counter and looked at her sister, "Thanks."
"You're welcome," she then yelled, "now can you tell me what the hell is going on!" Carries yelled as she paced back and forthher arms crossed her blonde hair flying wildly behind her.
"Unfortunately no," she frowned, "but Mom might. Do you still know Mom's schedule well enough to know whether or not she's left for work yet?"
Carrie stopped in mid-pace; a thoughtful look entered her blue eyes as she twisted o lock of blonde hair around her finger. "Yes I do, amd no she hasn't." She sang smugly as she smiled at Carly, "Why?"
Carly's smile widened in absolute hope, "Oh no!" Carries exclaimed, "I did it last time, ya know, when i ripped my jeans. You've got to do the mirror spell."
With a look of aggravation Carly stuck her tounge out and hopped of the counter turning to face the mirror. Pulling her hair back into a ponytail she looked at Carrie, "Ready?" Carrie nodded a look of deep concentration filtered into Carly's sea-green eyes.
The mirror slowly fogged over then started to clear; at it did they could see their mother, Virginia, getting dressed for work. Carrie smiled and winked at her sister, "Ya know Mom, those shoes don't match your shirt."
Carrie's smiles widened as she saw her mother spin to find out who said that. Carly smiled and thought to herself. Her mother was so beautiful, milk white skin, auburn hair, emerald eyes, perfect figure. No wonder Dad married her.
"Damn girls!" She said as she sat on her bed facing the mirror. "Okay, what's the problem? Someone start? Did you forget a report? Or..." Her eyes widened, "Okay, you two have the next class together. I'll into owrk and come and get you out, family emergancy. Now go!"
Carly dropped the spell and looked at Carrie, "Well, I guees we have our marching orders." They grabbed thier backpacks and started out the door.
"Carly, I guess I am going to need help with the test." Carrie said as she walked down the hall toward Mr. Cothern class, Geomerty.
"Yeah, I guess I could help, I made a discovery anyway, when we were using magick, we could see clearer, right?" She smiled and looked sideways at her sister.
"Yeah i did notice while we were linked that i could see better." Carrie smiled and threaded her arm throuh her sisters as they walked down the hall.
They entered the room and took their seperate seats. "Hello girls. Carrie I heard you took a spill in gym class, are you all right?" Mr. Cothern asked politely.
"Y-Yes sir, thank you for asking. I just lost my grip." Carrie stammered. Carly couldn't blame Carrie for stuttering.
Mr. Jonathon Cothern was a first year, just out of college teacher. He stood in fron of his desk watching the kids file into class.
He was about twenty-towish, maybe a little older, blonder hair that came to his collar. Blues eyes that were so gentle and kind that you could lose youself in them. Those lips, OH GOD, those soft kissable lips.
He was cool too, most teacher wear slacks and dress shirts, but not him, he wore jeans, tee-shirts, and tennis shoes.
Carly felt the “tingle”, “God I wish I wasn’t eighteen. I wish I was twenty-something!” She smiled and looked at Carrie nodded in agreement.
For some odd reason Mr. Cothern blushed, looked down and smiled. “Now class,” he said as he leaned back on his desk crossing his arms and legs, “you all know that usually we have a test on Friday, right?”
The kids nodded and mumbled in agreement, some even smiled, hoping that what they were thinking was what he was going to do. “Well, because of certain personal reasons, I don’t want to be stuck all weekend grading eight sets of paper. I mean would you?”
A lot of the kids sighed in relief and smiled. Carly thought to her sister, “And the teacher of the year is….!”
The speaker buzzed, “Excuse me, Mr. Cothern,” Mrs. Harris, the office secretary said, “I don’t mean to interrupt, but the O’Connell twins mother is here to check them out. It seems to be an emergency.”
The girls’ head popped up and looked at each other, then to Mr. Cothern. “They’re on their way! Girls, if there is anything we, I, the class, can do, please let us know.”
Carrie was already out the door, “Thank you, if we aren’t going to be at school Monday we’ll call.” Carly said quietly as she walked out the door.
She heard several of their friends” good-byes”, as she rounded the corner where Carrie was waiting for her. “Did you do the “school thing“?” Carrie said making the quotation symbols in the air.
“Yes”, Carly said adjusting her backpack, “he said to call if he could do anything for us.” She smiled, “You wouldn’t believe what crossed my mind.”
Carrie smiled, “I don’t have to imagine, I know, we were and still are linked.” Carly stopped abruptly and blushed deeply.
Carrie laughed lightly, “That doesn’t matter now. Let’s go so Mom can explain all this. The way she acted, it was like she was expecting this.”
Carly started walked toward the office again, “I know, she didn’t freak or anything. She saw what was going and took charge.
They walked in silence the rest of the way to the office. They turned the corner and there she was, Virginia, their mom.
Carly looked at her, “What’s going on Mom?” She asked as they stopped in front of her.
She frowned, “Not right now girls, I’ve already signed you out, go get in the car and we’ll discuss this on the way home.” The girls nodded and started to the car when Carrie turned around to look for their mom.
“Hey Carly, who are those people that Momma’s watching?” Carly turned around to look at their mom. Most of the time cheerful and smiling, she was glaring at some adults with twin daughters. The gentleman, about forty-ish with black hair, was wearing black dress pants and a blue long sleeve dress shirt. The woman was a little shorter him, she had auburn hair, almost the same color eyes as Carly’s, and she wore a white blouse and plaid skirt.
The twins girls were about eighteen like her and her sister. They were average height, black hair with red highlights. One was wearing a blue mid-drift sweater and jeans with tennis shoes. The other had a sharper look to her, black jeans and tee-shirt with spiked heel boots.
“I don’t know, but it looks like she’s not too happy about seeing them.” Carly whispered as she watched her mother.
Virginia noticed the girls watching her and quickly walked to them, “I said ‘Get in the car.’, now move!” She growled as she opened the driver side door and slammed it shut
Carrie’s eyes widened in astonishment as Carly dove in the front seat. When Carrie got in the car took off like a rocket.
“Girls,” Virginia said, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to yell at you . Everything will be explained to you once we get home.” She drove home without another word. The way she gripped the steering wheel, showed her stress clearly.
As they turned on their street, Virginia looked at them, “Girls, other than the mirror spell to get a hold of me have you used any other magic today?”
Carly turned sideways in the seat to look t her mother, “Yes, why?” Their mother cursed under her breath.
“Using magic, when all this is going on is dangerous!” She exclaimed as she pulled into the driveway.
“What is going on Mother?” Carried yelled from the back seat. “Why is using magic dangerous all of a sudden?” The car came to a stop in the garage.
“Girls, be quite and sit back.” Virginia said looking at her daughters. She smiled, “For a few minutes I want you to be quite and think about what I am about to say. You know about our family and what we are, correct?”
The girls nodded and she continued, “Well there is a reason we are here and not in Ireland. Where our family is from originally.” She stopped and opened the car door, Why don’t we go inside. Where we’re all a lot more comfortable.”
She got out of the car and started up the walkway. The girls exchanged surprised looks and quickly got out and caught up with her.
She unlocked the door and laid her keys on the table inside the door. “Girls, go change and I’ll fix some coffee. Hurry up! What I have to say might take some time.”
Carrie didn’t waste, she grabbed Carly and started dragging her down the hall and up the stairs. “Carrie, stop!”
Carrie let go and turned to look at her, “Carly look we can probably ask all the questions after we know a few more things okay.”
Carly pursed her lips and looked down, “Fine, let’s go change and get some answers
