so the Distant Image has a little league tournament starting friday... we decided that my "photo working equipment" won't be involved out at the site this year, internet sales only (hooray for switching to birra's company for hosting by the way) so my official job will be "child watcher". the partner is going to handle the photography, the Man will handle the uploading and website prep and i will handle the kids while the event is going on and the photo work once the event is over.
this quite pleases me, because as i have mentioned before ( i.e. bitched about), we always have a tournament during Shark Week and i always have to record the shows and watch them later.
this year i'll get at least a few glimpses of sharky goodness while i child watch.
mmm toothy.
some people you just don't expect to meet again..
that guy in Reno i was so fond of that just kinda drifted away in an explosion, that friend who's lack of honor and loyalty shook me to the core just last year, the ex in Nashville who it turns out wasn't the right one after all, or the friendship from childhood that, for whatever reason, ended over 10 years ago and many states away. but, sometimes it's the least likely that actually happens.
that friend from when i was young.. we loved the same things, the same animals, the same music we had the same imagination... we grew up with each other for a few years and when her family moved to northern California it didn't stop us sending letters every week, calling each other on the phone and spending a couple of weeks together every summer...
then she moved down to live with me for a while and some kind of poison slowly seeped into the relationship
we stopped communicating, she started hanging out with another friend of mine and they both started to ignore me. instead of discovering what the hell was going on i gave her a way out and she left. i called her house once since then, to talk to her mother and give my sympathies on the passing of her father and my ex friend had called my house once after that and left me a message i ignored thoroughly.
but of course you can't have a friendship with someone for as long as you can remember with out thinking of them now and then and i did and do remember great times together...
this past weekend my mother ran into this old friend of mine and her mother, after 10 years it seemed that they were glad to see her and the ex friend asked if she could e-mail me or write me a letter
when my mother relayed this information and said that if i wasn't interested she'd not give her my information a few things went through my mind.
the friendship didn't end on a good note of course, because it wouldn't have ended if things were good, and there were a lot of things unexplained
and perhaps nothing has changed, or perhaps everything.
i really have no animosity towards her.. i'm sure my standards for myself and my expectations, which i try not to let influence others but ca still feel oppressive played a role in things
and as far as i can tell that's when i started developing diabetes, which doesn't exactly a friendly, easy going me make. i also haven't a clue what she was going through so probably it was a combination of things.
i know a lot of things are different with me now, and i am sure they are with her as well..
i told my mother to feel free to pass along my address and e-mail information, i wouldn't be against a little catching up... although whether or not a friendship COULD develop again remains to be seen.

That's the thing about relationships... do they ever end "good?"
Either they end bad, or they just end...
...but as we live, every tomorrow is a chance to start a new one, or forgive and rekindle an old one.
so true so true
it was surprising to be sure
i have rekindled a few old friendships the past year or so, so maybe another will as well ;]

I feel as though, in some indirect way, I have returned to you the gift of Shark Week. :)
Yet, I must thank you again. Thank you!

Heh, you'd have loved the show we saw when my 6th grade class went to the Imax. We got to see some documentary on sharks from the Discover channel.
