Beat fable 3 today and I am pretty disappointed as well as slightly pissed off.
-Just like in Fable 2, the moral choice system is poorly done. Every major choice centers around either spending (good) or making (evil) money. Which would be good if money was difficult to make - but it isn't.
During the game's final hours a large amount of emphasis is put on the kingdom's treasury. Virtually all of the moral choices are about either destroying natural resources for money or spending money to improve the kingdom. The developers intended this to be a type of balancing act with the money, but since they made money so easy to make and allow the player to transfer their own money into the treasury, money is quickly no object. I literally had $10 million in the treasury in the first 5 minuets.
Then I just kept hitting A for the good choices because I had so much money to spend.
The ease to make money also makes the rewards for being evil insignificant. It's like
"Kill person A and make 50,000 or let person A live and lose 50,000. But I make 200,000 every 5 minuets so who really cares?"
-Then - and I can't believe I'm saying this - there is too much humor in the game. It is good humor but I can't take the game seriously when its cracking jokes as fast as I make money. It reminds me of the Bards Tale from the Ps2 to be honest. Though that game was meant to be a spoof, I'm not getting the same vibe from Fable 3 though.
Everything else is pretty standard. Combat's decent, storyline is decent, graphics are decent.
Honestly the only things I really honestly liked about the game were the sociopath garden gnomes.
"today is a great day to be alive - and an even better day to kill!"
There was one thing that caught my attention though from a developer's standpoint.
The game hd DLC content directly on the disc. You still had to pay for the content but there was literally no load time at all for the content to be installed. And I got the game $20 cheaper because of it. So I hope more games do this.
Well, my AC Last Raven game does not want to cooperate. Keeps skipping at the start of every single mission. If I turn the music off it seems to work better - plus the music on this game sucks so its a win-win there - but then the game decides to crash at random times.
And what I mean by skipping is this - quote from the game
"The enemy is on the move the move the move the move the move the move the move the move the move the move...." you get the idea. Makes it very fucking hard to concentrate. Which is extremely fatal on a game that's designed to be damn near fucking impossible unless you convert a saved game from Nexus, which I have yet to find!
I'm gonna try to get another copy from a different gamestop. It only costs $9 so it's worth it.
Also that saying by gamestop "guaranteed to work" actually means that a game is "guaranteed to get to the title screen".
COMMENTS
gamestop isn't known to be the best way to get games, I speak from experience. However, you are right $9 isn't bad. Hope you get a better copy next time around.
Decided to get Armored Core 2 Another Age today and it has to be the first AC game I didn't like. Granted I only played through 25% of it but that's because of how damn boring it was.
There's no Arena as far as I can tell. I've just been doing mission after mission after mission, and since I'm only 25% done there must be a shit load of missions, but I always had fun with the arena battles. Gives you a chance to fight other ACs in a no risk setting and when you fight ACs on missions you get a feel for who they are. On Another Age, an AC is more or less a stronger MT with no personality.
Then there's the lack of storyline. I'm sure that'll pick up around the 50% mark but for now i'm just doing missions for these random corporations in random areas. There's no briefing story or why we're all fighting.
The game play is pretty good but things feel a little toned down though.
Going to have a go at Last Raven. That game was not nice to be back when I rented it some 3 years ago, hopefully now that I'm more experienced with AC games I'll have a better shot.
This is a great fucking example of why I put shit off.
In mid November I signed up for my classes for the spring semester because a friend of mine told me I shouldn't put stuff like that off. I got my classes and everything was good. Then for some odd fucking reason, the college decides to check for funding now, today! For the past 2 years they've never checked for funding until the first week of the semester starts. My financial aid doesn't go in until a week before the semester, so that system worked well. Now, becuase the financial aid hasn't gone in yet, all of my classes got dropped. Worse still, literally NONE of the classes I NEED are available now. So it's like I didn't even do anything. And now, I'm forced to pick from the scraps that everyone else didn't chose.
Could who ever is in charge of the college's funding please jump off the nearest bridge? Thanks!
Been playing through the Assassins Creed series and I realized something.
I am a really, really good assassin but a horrible, horrible thief. Just did the third assassin tomb on the second game. Didn't get detected by anyone but had to kill everyone, save for 1 lone guard. And the whole object of that part is to steal treasure. I'm looking up youtube videos to see how everyone else is doing but I'm going to make the assumption that successfully sneaking through this place without being seen and without killing anyone is 99% impossible.
The game shows you the quickest route up and by looking around, it is possible to do it but you can't delay at all or you're screwed. Granted that's probably how it'd really be in a situation like this, and who ever designed the guards' patrol routes needs a raise, but damn!
Grades are in for this semester, well one of them anyway. Economics ended with a 105%. Not as nice as the 116% is was earlier in the week but an As an A. I was so focused on the vacation - which started today - that I basically had a "fuck all" attitude and did not study or try on anything anywhere ... at all. So to still have an A, especially an A that's over 100% is still kinda funny.
The Mgeavideo cut off time always cuts off at the perfect spots. It always happens right when the camera zooms in on something or someone is about to or just finished saying something dramatic. It's funny as hell.
Well, my latest armored core design passed the second phase with an even easier time than my normal layout, but failed miserably on phase 3, which was the online ranked matches.
What is driving me crazy though is why it failed. I can't understand it. I'm able to S rank every mission on normal and hard difficulty with the .40 regulations, so I know I'm a good pilot. But whenever I go up against someone online I get put to shame. They even use the same tactics I use, but when I use them they seem to fall flat, but when they do it I can't counter it despite knowing exactly what's going to happen.
I want to blame the internet connection, everyone here knows that it's no where near as good as it can be, with the router in the garage and a long ass extension cable to the modem - blame grandpa - but that also feels like an easy excuse so ... I don't know.
I have people refusing to fight me now because of how little of a challenge it is for them and it's really fucking insulting considering how high up I was in AC4.
At this point though I'm willing to give up on AC4A. Going to wait until a US publisher decides to get Armored Core 5 over here and then try my luck with the new mechanics. Hopefully this time they won't fuck up the speed much. And if they decide to make everything slower, rebalanced weapons speeds too, that'd be nice.
I'm back to square 1 in regards to my speech on Tuesday. I was originally going to do that thing against religion, with why video games's don't cause violence as my back up in case someone else was feeling on the the controversial side.
Well, turns out someone was on the controversial side and did a speech very similar to mine. Even had a lot of the same information.
And there is also another big video game fan in the class who did their speech on the myths about video games, covering what I was going to talk about as part of it.
So in an hour time frame I lost my primary speech as well as my back up. And while they did give good speech, I'm just sitting there thinking "WHY!?"
I'm not all too sure what I'm gonna do now, and I only got 4 days to figure it out. Along with 2 exams, volunteering and a film project.
Karma, I thought we were cool!
I am back bitches!!!
An experiment in Armored Core For Answer paid off big fucking time!!! Phase 1 of it at least, there's 3 phases in total but I honestly didn't even expect it to get past the trial run, so the results are beyond promising.
What I did is - as simple as it is - adjust the controls so they're the same as in the older AC games. Meaning walking and regular boosting. I took off the quick boost function altogether.
Now, while this makes me slower in over all speed, it adds a hell of a lot of maneuverability and actually gives me the upper hand in combat, both against the AI and the people ?I've played against so far.
This is because everything's centered around quick boosting. Guns are designed to shoot with a cretin amount of spread, so even if you dodge one shot with a quick boost, you're open for a second shot. But with just regular strafing, you can still dodge the shot and the second shot is way off because of the spread.
Also, since quick-boosting takes a shit load of energy, turning the function off essentially gives you that much more energy to use. And, since I know my formula for infinite energy for standard boosts, I have unlimited energy and can literally fly forever.
Knowing this, the next step was to get the generator with high PA regeneration. PA is the armor shield surrounding the AC, kinda like how the shield works on Mass Effect. The generator has shitty energy recovery, but like I said, with my formula and the minimal need for energy, it doesn't matter.
Then I did everything I could to maximize the standard boosting mobility with added boosters and tuning. Over all mobility is still low, but the maneuverability is even higher.
Because of the PA focused generator, I am also able to over boost forever, even on the new regulations which is designed to consume energy and PA like crazy.
And believe it or not, my decreased mobility allows me to track enemies easier. They do all this fancy quick boost maneuvers and all I have to do is turn slightly and they're back in my line of fire. This is becuase of the patter quick boost make you like, kind like a half C shape. So they go further out than over.
So, I have increased defense, maneuverability and infinite boosting capacity.
Phase 1 was defeating the entire AI arena and all of my friends.
Phase 2 will be completing the storyline on Hard difficulty.
Phase 3 will be entering an official tournament and seeing how my technique stands against the other AC vets.
This AC is aptly named The Wizard, because of how easily I can dodge and stay with all of my friends. Even won a 3 on 1 match with only losing 10,000 health.
A little nervous about the story, but with the results I've gotten so far, it looks doable.
Beat Armored Core 3 a 3rd time! This time as an S ranked pilot. Killed 16 ACs too, think that's as high as it can go, otherwise I'd be fighting Exile way, way early.
Didn't fail a single mission this time through. Got to A rank way early on so I got the bad ass hover leg part before the annoying water level. And I found a good perch to snipe those floating ball things when defending Crests air ducts.
Even got the Moonlight blade from destroying that big ass robot all on my own. Kinda funny story about that too. When the robot split into 2 sections, I angled it so that when the smaller one opened fire with its bazookas it hit the other section instead of me. Really sped up the process.
And now for 2 small rants regarding the game.
1 dealing with that mission with the giant robot . Why is it that it can fly out of the combat area but I can't? Isn't the combat area the place where combat is taking place? So logically the combat area should follow the giant ass robot. It shouldn't be allowed to go out of bounds and launch an ass load of missiles at me.
2. The special part that gives your more or less gives your AC super powers. On the message saying how to get it, it tells you that using it would mean you're not an honorable fighter. So why then is every other AI AC using it? In the arena every AC in both A and B rank is using that part, yet in their bio is says how awesome they are and that they use superb combat tactics. Even the rank A-1 guy is praised. It says he never lost a match on his way through the ranks. If I had extended boosting, extended cooling, beam sword waves, a radar, a bio sensor, extended missile intercept coverage and the ability to use the back mounted cannons without having to kneel down, i'd never lose a match either! But I kicked all of their assess with a standard rifle, so what does that say about their piloting?
