I got the Strong Closer achievement on Assassins Creed brotherhood today. That's where you have to go from 2nd to 1st place in the last 10 seconds of the match and win in 1st. One of my best matches to date and the best part is my best friend was there to see it. He'd heard me brag and all the stories but he got to witness it first hand and was actually a hell of a lot more impressed than I expected. Praise from a pessimist is hard to come by.

I really have a shot at 100% completing this game now. I thought that if any achievement was going to keep me from it it'd be strong closer but I got it!!!

Holy shit, am I glad I checked my email!

Decided to check my chemistry class to see if my last few grades boosted the over all % from a 90 to something a little more stable. I log on and it says I have a damn 53%. Nearly had a damn heart attack.

It says I got a 0% on my last 2 assignments which I actually got a 95% on one and a 90% on the other, the professor must have not written the grade from my papers down or it's a typo. So contacted the professor and we'll soon resolve this horrible, horrible tragedy.

Thankfully the papers haven't been recycled into drawing paper and code scribblings yet, so score 1 for laziness!

I hate how when you try to act normal so as not to freak out someone you're interested in, you end up being weirder than normal and sending them running for the hills. Feels like one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kinda things.

Found another, highly lucrative niche for me to occupy in Black Ops: Anti-Air gun. I got 16,500 xp from shooting down about 15 aircraft, plus the bonuses for destroying care packages. My kill/death ratio was kinda screwed because I intentionally died a lot to restock my RPG rounds.

I wonder why people don't shoot down aircraft. The occasional cobra is shot down but I've never seen anyone take out care package helicopters or spy planes. Destroying them can turn the tide of battle. Especially when you take out a spy plane as soon as its called in.

The enemy team had a good strategy too, if I hadn't had my RPG they would have destroyed us for sure. We were playing Demolition, and the kill streaks carry over each round. So the enemy team racked up as many kill streaks as they could while on offense, and as soon as they switch to defense next round, unleash them all right from the start.

It was a good plan, until they all started getting shot out of the sky. I had 2 of my team mates defending my position during this initial AA run too, made me feel kinda special.

Figure out why I'm not doing so hat in Black Ops. Lag is still a decent sized chunk of it but I realized one key feature about the HK5P, while it's lacking in stopping power, range, accuracy and firing speed .... it has the lowest amount of recoil both while firing and while being shot. So while the AKS-74U is bouncing all over the place, the HK5P is relativity steady, even at medium range. So I'm more or less back to where I was before; slightly above average.

Well, today was a mix success day in college, which I hate.

I finally figured out how to do math in different bases all on my own. And I was right, now that I know what I'm looking for, it's easy as hell. Doesn't diminish the feeling of accomplishment though.

Of course, my consistent low grades in chemistry off set any positive feelings I may have. I got an 80 on my last quiz and a 70 on the one I took today. Passing, yes. Satisfactory, no. I'm trying to get on the President's list and this is certainly not helping.

I keep making stupid mistakes, that's what's getting me. If the quiz was verbal I'd ace it because I know the material.

One question was about the density of water versus benzine and asked which would float to the top. Benzine is less dense than water, but for some odd reason I circled water and didn't realize it.

Then there was a question that simply wanted me to multiply the density and volume to get the mass. But my eyes mistook a 2 for a 5 so the entire answer was wrong and I kinda looked like a retard.

Thankfully it's still early in the semester and I have time to improve, but at the same time it's only gonna get harder and I'm failing to maximize my grade on the easy stuff.

Best game in existence

06:09 Jan 25 2011
Times Read: 541

A good friend and I were talking about video games today and decided that the game Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII is the best game in existence.

Since I have nothing better to do while I wait for a show to buffer, I'm going to elaborate on the reason why!

Like Dynasty Warriors, the game is about the Three Kingdoms War in ancient China. Unlike Dynasty Warriors, it is a strategy game with pretty poor graphics and text cut scenes but it is still just as entertaining and thrilling as any action game today.

*Let's start off with character customization.

You can customize every facet of your character.

Name, age, family, friends, ambition/desires. These all factor into your characters starting stats. Then the character's skills are randomized through a fairly large skill tree. You can keep randomizing until you get the skill set you're most comfortable with. Then you can put your character into the game and let the immersion begin!

*There are also several types of way to play the game.

The first way is to rule a territory. You can form and command your army. Advisers offer you advise on what to do when asked, the quality of their advise depends on how intelligent they are. You also assign work assignments to your offers at the end of each council meeting. These tasks strengthen the towns under your control. Of course the offer's trust in you as well as skill set determine how effectively these tasks are accomplished.

Then you can play as an officer in an army. You start out at the lowest rank, taking orders from everyone above you and as you prove yourself in combat and the completion of your work assignments, you will gain more and more pull with your commander. Also, if you preform badly you will fall from grace and be demoted or thrown out of the army all together.

If neither of those are your style, you can form a mercenary band. An independent army that can be hired by Lords to fight for them. Your reputation with the Lords will determine how they treat your band when you pass through their territory. If they like you, they may ask for a small amount of gold or troops, or welcome you as a guest. If they despise you, they may ask for nearly all of your troops, deny passage or even attack you.

And if none of those options appeal to you, you can live on your own. Quietly training and perfecting your skills until someone worth your time wishes to recruit you. Or you're skilled enough to carve out a chunk of territory for yourself.

*Then there's the interactions between the various officers throughout China. You can make friends, which will come to your aid in combat, help sway things your way during council meetings, train with you and even give you gifts.

You can also make enemies who, if in the same faction as you may try to humiliate you during council and genuinely make your life hell. If mad enough, they may even try to kill you. If you're the commander of an army and anger the governor of one of your territories, he may rebel and claim it for himself or offer the town and all its supplies to an enemy faction.

Shoe's ready now so I'll continue this another time.

No idea why but I'm doing dreadfully horrible on Black Ops lately. My kill/death ratio is something like 3/20 on a good match and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. People seem to see me before they even round the corner. I've ruled out motion sensors because it happens way too damn common. And when I do get the drop on someone either the hit doesn't register or they kill me despite having their back to me. I'm 99% sure that's lag but my connection strength is at maximum so I don't see where the lag is coming from.

I've tried all different equipment combination, weapons, tactics. Nothing works. One of my team mates suggested I stopped playing so they don't gotta carry me ... so here I am. One hell of a way to turn a good day into a shitty one.

Granted I've never been great at the game, especially on the Jungle level. Everything blends into everything and I'm lucky not to die 40 times because I can't see for shit. But it's never been this bad.

You know, it seems like whenever I play online all I end up doing is complaining. I guess I have higher expectations than what my skills are able to produce. Or, things really are this fucked up.

I just don't understand how during 1 week I can get a kill/death ratio of 20/5 on average and then the following week ... this happens.

Another thing I have a problem with is EVERY time I look away from an alley or passage way to patrol down another one, an enemy will turn the corner from the passage I just looked away from and gun me down.

I literally waited at one passage for 5 fucking minuets and not a soul goes through. I turn to go toward the gun fire and BANG shot in the head by a guy who went down the passage I was originally looking down. It drives me fucking insane!

It is only Monday but this feels like a preview of what awaits for me this week.

Beat Obscure Aftermath and it was very satisfying. Why is it that games that don't advertise are almost always better than AAA games?

The music is awesome! Reminds me of the Alone in the Dark 5 soundtrack. They might be from the same composer too considering how similar the styles are. The bad ass soundtrack compensates for the slightly below standard voice overs.

Fairly long game too. I got it at around 11am and it's now 2am, yes I went back in time, that's how awesome the game is.

The last boss is cruel though. Not because of how hard it is - which it's not that hard if you know how to strafe and not to stand in the middle of the stadium - but becuase it makes you do a damn lock picking mini game! You can only do it while the boss is unconscious which only lasts for about 20 seconds. Thankfully the riddle doesn't reset but you have limited ammo and I really doubt melee will work on him.

It was annoying in a good way though. As soon as the riddle pops up I had to laugh a little.

Again I love the music. There's this distorted scream/howl thing it does in some of the soundtracks. It hits the ear in such a way that it makes you cringe until you get used to it .. or maybe i'm just weird. Either way I love it!

A college campus is also an interesting place for a survival horror game.

Also - like Silent Hill - the game makes great use of sound effects. For example, in the latter half of the game you're in this semi-big wooden house on an island and there's a crazy person with a chainsaw running around. The house isn't all that big, no more than 10 rooms. And you'll periodically hear the chainsaw starting up and footsteps getting closer and closer until it sound like he;s on the other side of the door. I kept expecting him to break into the room and have to run my ass out of there.

When the monsters first come on scene in the beginning of the game you hear people being slaughtered in the other rooms and the heavy lumbering footsteps of the monsters through the walls.

We really need to revert back to this formula for horror games. The newer stuff like Dead Space isn't scary in the same way. The developers of Silent Hill and Obscure understand player psychology and know how to freak you out without sending hordes of monsters at you. Its all in the subtle way you poke and prod the player's imagination into scaring themselves with lighting techniques and sound effects and subtle music.

And the best part is, there's gonna be another sequel!!! Which means I have a new series to follow. As if I didn't have enough already but I'll sure as hell make room! Gotta find the first game now.

Got the game ObsCure Aftermath today. I've heard a lot of good things about these games so it should be fun!

I was hoping to get both ObsCure and Aftermath but all that had was the sequel at Gamestop, so I'm never trusting their website again.

I did unintentionally learn all I needed to about the original from reading the base storyline for Aftermath on the wiki so I should be in the loop just fine.

Interesting concept for a horror game too, might give Silent Hill a run for its money.

Best draw for me is that it's got co-op. Not online - thankfully - but co-op which I think is unheard of in horror games.

Now I just hope this games works. The condition isn't great and the last used game I got was horrible.

*So far the game's pretty good. Graphics are good for PS2. It's in the old survival horror style that I like and while it's not very scary, it's still a really cool concept.

The voice overs could stand to be better though but I've heard worse ... a lot worse.

Also the game is kinda stingy with the save points. Just lost an hours worth of progress and am a tad annoyed. But I'll get over it.

Chairs have an extremely short life expectancy around me, it's kinda funny. I rock and bounce around a lot when I'm playing video games or really interested in a TV show - as rare as that is - so I normally go through a chair in about a month.

Dad gave me two chairs he didn't want anymore about a half year ago and one of them just broke earlier today. Leaned back a little take a sip of some orange juice and SNAP! Perfectly good waste of juice too...

My dad knew I'd break them eventually, it's nothing new to him. My grandpa on the other hand had to make it into a big scene.

I called dad to tell him "one down and one to go!" but grandpa was over there when I called. Dad was laughing about it and told grandpa what happened, then grandpa gets all angry that he has to"drive all the way there to fix it". Still have no idea how he got that into his head. Then the remainder of the conversation was spent trying to tell him that it's no big deal and then dad just said he'd call me later so I'm not sure if I should be expecting a visit from Hell's Grandpa or not.

Anyway, chair broke, it was funny and grandpa has a screw loose.

Math is a puzzle I do not wish to solve.

Learning bases in math and its giving me one hell of a headache.

We're learning bases which is finally something new in college so I can't complain all that much. The problem is I somehow learned "how" to do it without understanding "why" it works. I got through base addition, subtraction and base 10 & 5 multiplication but hit a cement fucking wall on base 4 multiplication.

I get that you can only use numbers 0-3 and that 2 X 2 is 2 groups of 2, which changes into 1 group of 3 with 1 unit, which turns into 10. And I can figure out all the single digit numbers fine but as soon as I hit double digit I crash. I'm not sure what changes but what ever it is has me stumped for the moment.

Been stuck on 1 problem for 2 and a half hours so I think its time for a break.

It is interesting but it's also frustrating as hell. Until I have a breakthrough, then it'll probably be one of the easiest things to do, but until then I should keep a bottle of pain killers handy.

Also whenever I see 2 X 2 in base 4 I'm instantly reminded of Portal, which is an evil but awesome distraction.

"You think you're doing some damage?

2 X 2 is ffffffffff 10

...in base 4! I'm fine!"

Hahah! Reminds me of a Tom Lehrer song about "New Math". He goes through this whole how to multiply something out - then he breaks it down into base 8. It made me cringe and giggle at the same time.

Been listening to some songs by Jonathan Coulton who is a music god! The voice and the music remind me of hippie music but the lyrics are awesome!

Sadly there's one song I can relate to fairly well.

One thing that really annoys me is when I think something stupid or weird and as soon as I do, someone in the room gives me an awkward look. I'm starting to get paranoid that I'm thinking out loud without realizing it, if that's even possible.

More Assassins Creed Brotherhood multiplayer awesomeness!

I've been playing as the barber character with the song "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" playing over the xbox mic. I started to play it just before I went in for a kill. It was hilarious!

People were annoyed at it at first, but once they figured out the reason why I was playing it, it started to unnerve them a little bit. Whenever it'd start playing they'd say something like "run away!"

Wish I had the equipment to record xbox games because this would be a priceless youtube moment.

Figured out how to stun pursuers on Assassins Creed Brotherhood multiplayer. Gotta be behind or to their sides and press B or 0 depending on console. Your character actually punches the pursuer in the head, they fall to the ground for a few seconds and then lose you as a contract.

The disguise ability makes this extremely easy to do as well, if you can spot your pursuer before he/she kills you.

I noticed this one doctor was following me down a street and subsequent alley, so as i turned the corner, I used the disguise ability. The doctor turns the corner and then takes a few steps into the street and is promptly backhanded just as my disguise is wearing off.

The morph ability also makes this easier. Some characters will use their own ability to cancel out yours and see which member of the crowd doesn't change. What I do though, is morph a crowd and then either hang out on a bench or in a nearby crowd. So even if they morph the crowd, I'll creep up behind them while they're confused and stun them. Or they might just flat out kill a civilian and save me the trouble.

One priest NPC was walking by the crowd as my pursuer morphed it. The NPC was just out of range so as soon as he saw the priest didn't morph, he pounced on the civilian, it was hilarious.

Poison is another great weapon. I haven't gotten to use it yet but I've had it used on me a few times. It is both evil and awesome!

I was hiding in this morphed crowd and this barber walks into it and blends with the crowd. I thought it was a civilian because at the angle he was standing, I couldn't stun him. So I just shrug it off. A few seconds later he walks away, then 5 seconds later my character starts grabbing his throat and the screen turns this slimy green color.

I also got poisoned just as I stunned my pursuer once too. It's like "Ha!" then "oh shit..."

I'm actually really good at picking out targets in their morphed crowds. I get my share of stuns but my kill/stun rate is around 70%. Its all about where the characters are standing in relation to the street/alcove. Generally the target is the one furthest back in the crowd, though I've had people switch it up. From a statistical standpoint though you're at the least amount of rick the further in you are, so that's where most players will hide.

There have been times though where the groups were in a straight line. The same concept still applies though, depending on which way the player entered the area, he'll hide at the opposite end of the line. So based on my compass readings, I tried to predict which end the player was at, and it works very very well.

This is an awesome multiplayer concept I have to say. The entire thing is based on who can out-trick who. Its heaven for psychologists.

Been playing more of Assassins Creed Brotherhood's multiplayer. Finally know what all the characters look like so I don't gotta sit on the roof tops looking for anomalies any more. Now I prowl the streets picking people off while blended in a crowd of civilians, which is fucking fun!

My preferred character is the priest because I love the irony a serial killer under the guise of a man of the cloth.

I really need to find a second favorite character to switch things up because after the 3rd match with the same people, they flat out avoided any and all religious figures. Made it really hard to kill them after that.

So far my favorite ability has to be disguise. It turns you into another character for 15 seconds. This is great when someone suspects you're their pursuer but doesn't want to run to let on they know. I'll walk into a crowd where there's an NPC that looks like me, then use the disguise to change into someone else and just casually walk up to my target while he's focusing on the NPC priest and gut him.

Disguise also really helps when you're being chased by someone. There was one player in particular who I could not shake by regular means. So I broke line of sight and ran a little ways before I got into a crowd of people with another priest in it. Used my disguise and as soon as I do, my pursuer runs around the corner and pounces on the NPC priest. Then I stroll out and go about my business.

I actually try to refrain from racking up a high score early on because of how many people are trying to kill you once you hit first place. I got an aerial kill on someone climbing up a building and must have gotten 800+ points - which is a shit load - and then all of a sudden I have 4 people trying to kill me on a 6 player match. It was not a pleasant experience. So I try to either hide for a few minuets or get kills worth a small amount of points.

With my new tactics I fluctuate between 1st-3rd place in every match so I am definitely doing the right thing.

Trying out that Assassins Creed Project Legacy thing. It's a facbook game so its inherently bad to begin with but I can safely say it is actually pretty good.

For one, it has a storyline! A lose storyline but a storyline. Which is better that 90% of the crap on the site already.

As with all facebook crap, it uses that action points for everything, thing.

But it has nice sound effects, is written in good English and actually has voice overs which is nice.

Assassins Creed Marathon!

00:06 Jan 07 2011
Times Read: 610

Just completed a week and a half long Assassins Creed marathon. Played every single game from start to finish and got 100% completion on all of them, almost. Actually lost momentum after finishing the 3rd so it's at 80% but it's close enough damn it!

Absolutely awesome series! Up there with my all time favorites.

Combat's awesome

Stealth's awesome

Music's awesome

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EaRHlo4B0Y

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ-WMWg4qnw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL91oiutLog&feature=related

Story line's awesome! I swear the writers deserve a medal. They've tied in nearly every well known legend/myth, conspiracy theory and real world events into an expertly crafted little package. And they do it so well that it all seems really believable.

Fiction aside, the games also portray the actual way I view society which is kind of amazing to be honest.

The riddles for the Subject 16 videos are also extremely fun on both the 2nd and 3rd games. I especially like the chess riddle in the 3rd game, where you have to decipher which piece to move and where based on a riddle.

Probably my least favorite riddles are where you have to unscramble a picture, though its mainly due to a vision thing. Making a blind man unscramble a black and white picture of something I've never seen before is not very nice! I couldn't say what half of those pictures were but I somehow managed to solve them by some odd miracle.

The freedom of mobility is another awesome thing these games have going for them. Not only can you walk/run the streets and ride horses but you can also climb buildings, pillars and the like. Though the rooftops are usually filled with crossbow wielding soldiers who are way too damn accurate. It's still really fun though.

And the Brotherhood feature is yet again, a great thing Assassins Creed 3 has going for it. You can recruit and train your own assassins who can help you in fights, ambush and stealthy take out enemies and shoot volleys of arrows, though to be honest I haven't figured out how the arrow thing works. There was this one mission in particular I really liked thanks to my assassins. This thief wanted me to assassinate a rival gang leader. He says the leader has infiltrated their ranks and is a master deceiver who's already killed a bunch of people. Then he kindly offers to lead me to him. So, we're making our way over the rooftops and I'm thinking out load "You're really the leader and you're leading me into an ambush, I know how this works." Sure enough, once we got to an open field, he turned hostile and a group of guards storms out of this small ally. I press the button to call the assassins, you hear an eagle soar overhead and then my assassins hop over this small wall, throw a smoke bomb down to stun the guards and clean house. While they're doing that I go up to the thief and dispose of him saying "I win!"

The multiplayer is another cool but slightly repetitive feature. Personally I think they should have forgone the multiplayer and used the spare resources to add more to the single player, but that's just me. You actually play as soldiers on the "bad" side of the plot's conflict. Its even got a really interesting introduction sequence for what is basically a super advanced VR training simulation.

The goal is to find and assassinate a random player while also being hunted by other players.

My main strategy here is to stick to the rooftops to find my target. This way I have a birds eye view of the area and I'll know if someone is hunting me because of the sound it makes when people are climbing buildings. It is a kind of cheap tactic I'll admit but everything blends together on the ground - yet another visual thing - and when I ended up killing more civilians than targets, I realized I needed a change of plans.

And now, for the remaining days I have before a (hopefully) challenging semester of college begins I'm gonna have another go at Fallout New Vegas!

Assassins Creed Brotherhood's glitches are really starting to annoy me.

First there was that game breaking glitch with the tunnels, which has made me avoid them like the plague, but there are also glitches that automatically fail your full synchronization requirements on missions.

My favorite one - by favorite I mean HATE - is on the thieves assignment called "up to speed" in which you have to race along these ruins. To get 100% synch, you have to do it in 60 seconds.

I spent 2 hours on this fucking thing because I constantly "failed" the synch requirement. I knew I was in the clear but the game insists I was over 60 seconds.

So I finally got a damn stop watch out and timed myself. On my best run I had 18 seconds remaining and I still, STILL failed.

How does 42 = 60? This game tells time like my dad!
