Well this is a humbling experience. Injured my foot from a fall gone wrong today. Wanted to see how easily I could get onto the roof of my house. Getting up was easy, but I decided to get down the quick way and landed on a small hill.
Felt my entire foot bend to the right. Not twist mind you, bend as in the whole thing was forcibly curved right. Also heard three pops, like when you crunch a water bottle, only it wasn't a water bottle.
It surprisingly don't hurt at all, but that's because the foot is utterly and completely numb and swollen, and numb but not purple like normal swelling. I take it that's bad?
Still not as bad as the time I got my kneecap cut open, though this was the foot of that same leg. For some reason its always the right side of my body that gets injured.
I don't have health insurance so the hospital is out of the question. Family can not afford medical bills. I had my foot sitting in a tub of ice water for a few hours - being numb helped deal with the cold - and have a makeshift cast made from a towel and some tape.
Been getting around by hopping on my left foot which is a hell of a lot of fun to be honest.
All in all this has been an entertaining learning experience for me.
More on Three Kingdoms: Playing the 191 scenario as Cao Cao again and I'm not sure what's with the AI but it went into overdrive. Normally they all just sit around for a good 5, 6 years before anyone actually does anything. But this time Ma Teng went crazy and took out Dong Zhou all by himself, securing the north west and at the same time Yuan Shao got off his noble ass and took over the north east. I took over the central area of the country but now I'm getting attacked from all sides.
Preparing for a major battle between Cao Cao and Yuan Shao now. Who ever wins this one single battle will probably go on to take over the country.
On a semi-unrelated note. Why is it that I'm blind yet I'm infinitely more observant than most people? Kinda ironic.
Saw the E3 demonstration for Far Cry 3 and it looks freakin awesome!
Here's the YouTube link for anyone curious.

I really like how they're going for the full body animation. It always bugged me in FPS games how you're just an eye-level camera with a gun. Far Cry 3, as well as Battlefield 3 now allow you to see the body model. See the arms holding the gun and when you look down or slide/dive you can see your chest/legs. It really adds a lot to the whole experience.
Not a fan of the regenerating health though, but as long as they have a hard difficulty setting I can let that slide.
I hope they have similar enemy AI to the second game, there was one AI feature in particular that I absolutely loved from Far Cry 2.
If the enemy's catch a quick glimpse of you as you go from cover to cover, they'll pretend they didn't see you and silently move in on your position. It's complete with dialogue to sell the situation too.
Example:
I was sneaking through this shanty town and didn't see a patrol until I was pretty close. I noticed him as he was turning in my direction and darted behind a building. The patrol then blurts out "What was that!?" Another patrol walks over and asks what he saw. The patrol replies with something along the lines of "Guess it was nothing, never mind." While he's saying that, he's motioning for the second patrol to follow him as they make their way to my last known position.
Such an awesome feature.
Today I have finally made Romance of the Three Kingdoms my bitch by beating the First Northern Campaign scenario as Liu Shan, who is the absolute worst ruler stat wise in the entire game.
At first I did heavily rely on Zhuge Liang, so much so that I actually recalled him from the north to aid in domestic matters. From there I had to endure relentless attacks from Wei and Wu with a shit army while I built up gold and bought my officers weapons and various books so they'd be less shitty.
In the meantime I procured all of the red skills and saved up enough money to get Hero, which allows for all stats to reach 100, then trained my ass off until they were all in the 80, 90 range. Then I just kinda destroyed everything.
I love elephants.
Got to finally play Risk over the weekend. Got the XBLA game: Risk Factions because apparently boardgames are extinct. I really liked the effort that went into the game but I don't actually like Risk.
There is a decent bit of strategy involved with troop allocation and choosing where and who to attack when in 5 player matches but after that the entire game is based on luck.
I see what its getting at; how no strategy is full proof and all the planning in the world won't save you if your troops screw up but in a real strategic situation you at least have some understanding of troop capabilities. All you do in Risk is throw endless waves of troops at enemy territories and hope, key word "hope" the dice like you.
I feel utterly helpless when playing. No matter what I do, no matter how many troops I position on a territory, it all comes down to a dice roll - random chance - and I need more control in my strategy games.
Remember that virus I got from looking at porn a month or so ago, well apparently it has an experation date because after letting my laptop sit for a month, I turned it on and everything's back to normal.
Running virus scans - plural - now just in case but so far so awesome!
Got to play Go with a friend of mine over the weekend. It's an old Chinese game involving the placement of little black and white stones. We played with a 9x9 and a 19x19 bord. There's apparently a 99x99 bord which would probably take several days to play.
I did alright at it, though was entierly new to the game so I 'm still learning but I did alright. My main problem is understanding how to count up territory. There were a few times where all my friend did was place several (2-4) stones behind my lines and despite having several good shapes with 2 eyes, he took most of the territory. I haven't ruled out the possibility that they're messing with me so I'm gonna look up the rules again tonight and see if I can find out how territory is effected by placement.

Actually, Go is Japanese. Xiangqi is chinese Chess.
It's good you are interested in something like that. I am sure with practice you would continue to do better at the game.
Decided to see what the original dynasty warriors was like since I've only played 3 XL and onward, so I Youtubed it and ... holy shit. The original game was a fighting game like Mortal Kombat and Teken. Needless to say, the DW games I've played are an entierly different set up. Whoever decided to make the change from a fighting game to how things currently are: thank you!!!
More 3 kingdoms stuff!
Decided to play as my favorite historic force: Wei, controlling Cao Cao, Cheng Gong, Cao Ren, and cousins Yuan and Dun on the Dong Zhou coalition.
Yuan Shu is an ass hole, first off. I spent 3 years getting Dong Zhou's officers to defect and planting moles in the rest, all the while enduring repeat attacks from Lu Bu, then Yuan Shu just swoops in from the south - in a different, much less defensable route and takes the capital. Then Ma Teng took Chang An and all other territories on the north west side of the continent. Yes Dong Zhou is dead but damn it I wanted the capital. At least those two are fighting each other now and ignoring me.
Another bit of oddness is that Gonsung Zan actually beat and destroyed Yuan Shao's forces and is in a prolonged war with Liu Bei. Liu Biao also has 70% of the south under his control but Sun Jian - who is still alive for some odd reason - is giving him trouble.
I'm behind on the land grab for now, we'll see how the rest of this little war goes..
Decided to make characters for my friends and family on Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 using "realistic" stat numbers. Deleted my save with the better stat rolls and the rules were that we are not allowed to pick our own stats, someone else has to pick them for us based on their perspective. It was kinda fun and funny to see the numbers everyone picked for each other.
Only one person got angry because my character's intelligence was higher than his. He had 3 people do 3 different stat allocations and they all put my intelligence in the high 80s, low 90s, which they put his at a flat 80. To be fair though, no one put my charisma above 45 while they had his in the low 90s. Both the intelligence and charisma stats would really be like that in real life too, I find it funny.
I find it fun to see how close to real versions of ourselfes would do in a Three Kingdoms situation, though the same angry friend was upset he could't use his god character.
"That's kinda like this one time, I didn't like a kid so I ground hus parents into chilli and fed it to him."
+5 respect points for south park.
