Alicia - "So, I did modelling when I was a kid, but my parents never pushed but because I am apparently knock-kneed, and they knew there was no future in it for me."
*giggle*
My brother, his wife and I cleaned out my father's room today.
We found my Poppy's wedding ring, finally. I had really wanted to have it buried with my father, but it's far too late for that now.
My brother is insisting I keep it. =/
Well.
This past week has been a motherfucker. Planning a funeral is like planning a wedding in only three days, with nothing at the end of it but goodbye and clean-up.
Tomorrow I am doing the thank you cards for the cards and flowers and plants and such people sent.
Tomorrow isn't going to be fun.
On top of this past week's weirdness, I've had a genuine marriage proposal. o_O
Too much for my mind at the moment.
Off to Meridian, TX.
The viewing last night here in town was easier than I'd expected.
Folks kept showing up and giving their respects, and keeping us talking and smiling.
My nephew was a treasure trove of smiles - he kept doing laps around the pews and then going up one aisle, down the next. "Come get me!" and playing face games. He kept us all from being too somber. ♥
Duncan and I will be sharing the captain's seats in my brother's minivan, and the DVD player, for the drive out to Meridian.
The movie negotiations should prove interesting.
I'm voting for Happy Feet - he's voting for Dora.
We may need to compromise on Over the Hedge.
All the arrangements are made. Finished dealing with insurance companies yesterday. Went to lawyers today, and will drop off the suit at the funeral home.
Then we get to call all the credit card companies, banks, etc., and get those notifications done.
I'm rather tired.
Poppy died this evening about 7:30.
It was a massive heart attack. The doctor, who was talking to him at the time, said it was over in seconds.
So. The hopital wants to move Poppy to a "skilled care" facility.
It feels like they're giving up on him. My brother sees this, too.
He and I are going to look at a few this afternoon so we have SOME say in where he goes.
I'm just concerned they're sending him out so he doesn't die on their watch, and that if he does take (another) turn for the worse, it won't be possible to get him to a hospital, a real hospital in time.
I am not pleased with this at all.
